The Port William Inn at Trebarwith Strand, near Tintagel, is a wonderful pub and restaurant on the North Cornwall coast, renowned for excellent pub food and a comfortable welcoming bar. There is also 4 star accommodation, with all 8 hotel rooms having a very high standard of finish and superb sea views, down to the sea and the dramatic cliffs. Magnificently situated, The Port William Inn nestles into the cliffs overlooking the dramatic Trebarwith Strand on the North Cornwall coast. When out, the tide reveals a mile of golden sand which can be viewed from the bar, the conservatory dining area and from the inn's eight luxurious en suite hotel bedrooms. Once you have visited we are sure you will agree there is no other inn in Cornwall with a location to match that of the Port William. You are also welcome to enjoy the inn's excellent food and drink from the bar and restaurant, while enjoying the superb views from our outside terrace. The Port William lies on the famous Cornwall coast path and is a very popular stop off point for walkers. Trebarwith Strand also offers a surf school and has Life Guards during the summer months. A short drive takes you to local golf courses and tennis courts while the world famous Tintagel Castle and Island are just a short walk along the coast path.

We arrived on bicycles during a break in the weather on a rainy day.
The friendly and helpful manageress gave us a warm welcome. The room was comfortable and well appointed with warm radiator, heated towel rail in the bathroom and a bath with shower attachment, all of which were highly appreciated by a pair of semi-soggy cyclists. The view from the room was stunning, as is the location. The beer is good (assuming you like Tribute as much as I do), the bed comfortable and the full English breakfast absolutely fine. The evening meal was fine too. Nothing to dislike, especially for a hungry cyclist, but very much standard pub food. I would return without hesitation but if we did I would probably have to promise to take the Mrs somewhere else to eat in the evening

Unfortunately the Port William Inn does not live upto its potential. The location has so much promise. Acess by road is down some very narrow roads, beware sat navs may take you down some very constricted roads which dont allow passing. Parking at the hotel is limited and is on rough ground with very tight access. This sense of adventure only heightens the expectation of something special.
We were allocated room 8, and looked forward to the promised sea view, oh dear ....two windows ..one frosted window ( which would overlook carpark (sic) ) and the other a specular view of a public toilet. ...as advised by the manager if you stand to one side and look outsideways there are glimpses of the promised sea view. The room was reasonable size and clean. The bed had a mattress that needs replacing as it mirrored the underlating contours of the location.
The food served in the evening and breakfast was adquent, standard large pub chain offering. The scoring on this review isnt lower because of the excellent way the general manger dealt with proving a refund of our second night booking. She did state "head office marketing have not listen to her and customer comments regarding room 8. My advice , stay at hotel just not room 8 , Well not at a rate of the rooms with a view.

After the wettest February ever my wife and I were in need of a break. I booked the Port William on a very sunny Tuesday, March 3rd, with fingers meteorologically crossed for continued blue skies for the next 3 days. Wrong! We drove to Tintagel in pouring rain and sea mist, Even the tops of the wind turbines were only partially visible like eery menacing phantoms. My Satnav chose the narrowest, steepest by-roads to get there, but she (ours is very polite and feminine) was spot on and wow!, what a fabulous location, even in thev disappointing greyness. But that was the only disappointment. In no time at all we were booked in and shown to our room by Ali, who was kind enough to carry two of our bags. Our room was spotless and the King-size bed was extremely comfortable. We were a bit cramped for space, but we weren't exactly going to throw a party.. The splendid view was compensation enough. The bar staff served us well and were very chatty, helping us to opt for the chicken curry which was delicious., allowing us to choose the equally tasty fish & chips for our second night. And the breakfast was to die for, The fresh fruit was really fresh and the scrambled eggs were perfect. Although it was fairly quiet the ambiance was warm and all the guests were very friendly. The decor suited the building which also suited the location. All in all a delightful two night stay, enhanced by the attentions of all the staff, We shall be back!

My husband and I booked our Christmas eve and Christmas day holiday break at the Port William Inn, Tintagel. Our opinion is what a gem of a place, room was spotless the view from the window of the sea beautiful and the coast path walk nearby was just what we needed. We slept really well and put that down to the gorgeous sound of the sea lapping against the rocks. To top that our Christmas dinner was outstanding and full of flavour and taste. The service of the staff exceptional and I cannot just name one it was all who was there. We felt relaxed welcomed and will be going back for another visit in the very near future. With Covid restrictions in place we were able to forget and feel we were in a lovely bubble of our own and had some fun and laughter. Thank you all at the Port William.

So sad to be writing a less than positive review but just had a very disappointing stay at the Port William. I have wanted to stay at the Port William ever since enjoying family holidays visiting Trebarwith Strand in the 1970s and revisiting frequently over the years. Having thought I booked a seaview, because website implies that all rooms have this, we found ourselves in Room 8. It should not be sold as having a sea view, you can only see the sea if you stand at the window and crane your head left. Miserable. The room was tired, the bathroom, even more so. It was unfortunate that the kitchen was, unexpectedly, out of commission so no booked evening meal - for our 20th Wedding Anniversary - had cold sandwiches. No full english breakfasts and, on first morning, no gluten free cereal despite having booked with that requirements months beforehand. We were moved to a room with a proper sea view the next day which we appreciated but it did not make up for the massive disappointment of room 8 for our first day / night. Kitchen issue resolved for our last breakfast but, to be honest, it was a very poor breakfast - presented and tasted like bacon, eggs, etc, had been cooked well in advance and kept warm..... Not what we expected. No water bottles in room, no glasses to drink water from in rooms. Not enough tea bags, not cleaning daily because of covid, which is fine, but had to ask for more tea / coffee / sugar every day, rather than automatically giving new stocks at breakfast. Sadly would not stay again.

Yet another fantastic stay at the port william. Apart from the social distancing and hand sanitisers nothing has changed the welcome, cleanliness, food, drink and the views are still the same as they have always been. Thank you to Lucy and the gang for helping to make mikes special birthday special. We will be back. Thank you again stay safe

Stumbled across this pub, just by chance a couple of years ago. Once we saw how picturesque the location was, we decided to come and stay at a later date. We got that chance in late Sept after things began to open up after covid.
The staff were really welcoming and friendly, the food at lunchtime was very good and reasonably priced. We both had chicken meals in the evenings, and the chicken was a bit tough. I only mention this so the manager can take note of it to improve it for others.
There is a really good selection of real ales and a gluten free beer as well. You must try a pint of Hicks special draught as it is the best beer I’ve have ever tasted, and I’ve tasted quite a few!
The rooms are not big, but are well appointed with a really good shower over bath, and had great views of the sea. The bed was very soft but very comfortable.
Both inside and outside dining areas are really impressive with those lovely sea views again.
Definitely worth a stay.

Wow what a location, above the sea crashing on the rocks and then hours later a beach. Listen to the sea in your room.
The information pack in the room was comprehensive covering all aspects for your stay.
The walk in shower was roomy and had a full range of Elemis toiletries. The towels were big and fluffy. We found the bed slightly soft, but that’s personal preferences.
A coffee machine, plus sustainable tea bags and plenty of milk, sugars, and biscuits are provided. There was no cell phone reception on Vodaphone but there was good internet service. The rooms are small, but beautifully furnished, clean and modern, but the walls were not soundproof, so we could hear the people in the next room. However this is a very old stone building, so probably not easy to make structural changes.
The inn is dog friendly and there were plenty of dogs around.
We did not find parking as a resident a problem, and there are two very close car parks if the accommodation runs out of parking spaces.
The inn is right next to coastal paths so great for walkers.
We had dinner and breakfast, and I have to say that the choice for breakfast was extensive to cover all dietary requirements and the dinner and wine was superb. The atmosphere for dining was relaxing and cosy, and the staff and service was good.
Would we return? most definitely. I really don’t think that the location can be beaten anywhere.

We booked the Port William a couple of weeks before our trip and with limited options, this looked like a decent place and hotel. For almost £200 a night, we looked forward to the stay but from the moment we arrived, it left a sour taste in our mouth.
The establishment is under staffed with us waiting to check in and chasing to see if someone was going to come.
The room was basic, small with a ‘sea view’ where you had to stick your head out the window to see. The walls were paper thin whereby you could hear the neighbouring rooms conversations and shower.
The food had a limited menu and best to compare to whetherspoons.
It’s such a shame given the incredible location that it’s positioned at. So much opportunity to deliver great food and bedrooms but it seems the place don’t feel they need to anything to improve given it’s the only place to stay/eat in the area.

The Port William has a fantastic location overlooking the sea and Trebarwith beach. The room was beautifully maintained and spotless and the £15.00 surcharge for our dog was well worth it due to the dog welcome pack in the room. The staff are super friendly and dinner and breakfast were both excellent. Great range of drinks available and the cozy open fire was very welcome on the cold day we stayed. Will be back.

What time do you start serving food on weekdays?
Answer from PWGM
Hello! We serve food 12-9 every day of the week! Hope this helps :)
Answer from PWGM
Hi CarlyBug, Thank you for your comments. A fish finger sandwich is a special on our menu along with other items, when in season the volume of food we produce on a daily basis is extremely high. During each sitting we can deliver around 480 covers. As our kitchen space is designed to deliver our main menu, specials sometimes become simpler to ensure we can deliver them on time and to customer expectation. Fresh fish is always available on our specials board when we have the time, and pan space, to offer it to the high standard we strive to achieve. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.
