We stayed in the hotel over Christmas on a walking break. The staff were very helpful and friendly and very welcoming. The food over the period was very good and plentiful (good choice) and the hotel is in an ideal location for walking. The hotel however is tired and really in need of refurbishment. Our room was at the far...

My wife and I stopped 3 nights here on a HF guided walking break and found the hotel to be very comfortable. Our room had a 4 poster bed and was well appointed with en suite facilities. The food was excellent and the staff very friendly too.

I was also at the Weekend Reunion mentioned below, which completely filled the hotel, and I really liked the hotel and especially it's very competent and charming staff. One quick comment on the earlier review : the soup and sandwiches arrangement for dinner was a choice by the organisers, to accommodate arrivals from early afternoon to late evening - I...

We arrived on a Friday evening and went to the restaurant , three people were in our party , we were served lovely home made soup and there was plenty of it and a platter of freshly made sandwiches of five types . We were then served freshly made filter coffee . Saturday a self service breakfast bar was available...

Very well placed for walking and exploring the great outdoors. Big drawback for us is that they don't accommodate dogs, which is a great shame, as they have a lovely big boot room where one could easily clean off a dog along with your boots. The newest part of the hotel , which is the majority of the bedrooms, was...

Our room was spacious and well furnished. We got a 180cm/6ft wide zip and link bed on request. The food was excellent and generous using top quality fruit and vegetables and other ingredients. The location is good positioned close to Dovedale, Ilam Park and many walks. There is a homely atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here. The hotel takes...

First time here and stayed Monday-Friday on a 'clarinet choir' holiday with HF Holidays. It was really one of the best holidays I've ever had. Hotel in a fantastic setting; the staff were just so friendly, polite, welcoming and funny. You had the feeling that there was a real 'family bond' between them all. The rooms were lovely and clean...

We stayed here as part of an HF Holidays discovery tour of the Peak District. We enjoyed this hotel very much. It is an older property, and has some quirks, but they only add to the charm. Our room (room #9) was spotlessly clean, roomy, and comfortable, with a nice view of the back garden and terrace. I had read...

I'd read reviews of this hotel before I stayed and noted a couple of quibbles I'm delighted to report that this is now a very well appointed, extremely good hotel with welcoming, friendly, very efficient staff. It's in a superb position with doorstep access to a very good range of walks. My bedroom was excellent and had a very good...
