Value
Welcome to Mounthaven Dartmouth's only 5 star guesthouse. Set over looking the river Dart and views to the sea it is a special place to relax. Within easy walking distance of the town center yet in a very quiet location with private guest parking (a must in old towns like ours) it truly is special. From the moment you enter, met with homemade cakes to waking to enjoy a breakfast of local produce much of which is grown in our gardens or made by us like the jams and marmalades you understand why our guest have given us such kind review. We suggest that rather than trying to book via a third party where limitations apply just drop us an email or give us a call to discuss how we can help.

I have just returned from a quick two night break to Dartmouth with my partner, which was topped off by a fantastic place to stay. We stayed in the river view room, which has an incredible view over the town to the river and the sea. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for our hosts, Shaun and Rose, who were happy to share local knowledge, as well as cooking a fantastic breakfast to order each morning. The location, just a short walk from the town, is made even more attractive by the fact that there is free off road parking available. All in all, a very good stay.

We arrived at this BnB and were warmly welcomed by Rose who showed us to our room, the river view, which certainly lives up to his name with breath taking views out over the town, river and sea. The room was clean and had everything that one would want, a small fridge, small chairs, tea coffee a cork screw and wine glasses. The only thing missing was the wine but that was not expected anyway. Luckily we had brought our own.

The bathroom was tiled with a corner bath and taps with a hand held shower.
We were treated to a piece of homemade cake which went down well with a cup of tea.

There was a good selection at breakfast which was tasty and well cooked. The hosts were happy to give advice as to what to see and where to go and good restaurants in the area.

Should we go back to Dartmouth we would stay here again with a second thought.

Mounthaven is in a great location, only a few minutes walk from the centre of Dartmouth and has the added bonus of being able to park at the property. The views from the back bedrooms are amazing. Shaun is a very good cook and the breakfasts were among the best I’ve tasted in a B and B. Rose’s home made gooseberry jam was delicious too. Our river view room was very clean and comfortable. It had a bath, not a shower but we knew that in advance so that was fine. However, the one negative was that your room isn’t serviced during your stay. I love coming back after a day’s exploring to find the bed made up, tea bags and biscuits topped up, clean cups and clean towels. If you leave dirty towels and cups outside your room they are replaced but it isn’t quite the same.

We needed a 'Dartmouth Fix' and booked Mounthaven primarily for location, parking and the good reviews. Nothing disappointed. We were greeted most warmly by Shaun who showed us to our room (Castle View). Having eventually taken our eyes away from the stunning view across the ever changing river we could then fully appreciate our lovely room. This had all the home comforts including a very handy fridge that was surprisingly spacious! The home made cake and cream presented by Shaun on arrival was such a lovely touch. Breakfast the following morning gave us chance to meet Rose, who is lovely. We were given a choice of home made jams/marmalade and home grown fruit from the garden along with a full English (which was superb) and set us up for the day. Mounthaven is truly a home-from-home and we cannot praise it enough. Shaun and Rose are the most perfect hosts and even during these difficult (Covid) times we could not have been better looked after. We so enjoyed our 'Dartmouth Fix' and can't wait to return.

We visited Mounthaven Guest House for 4 days in June and stayed in the Castle view room.
Shaun and Rose were excellent hosts and the breakfasts were wonderful – so much choice and some of the fruit was fresh from the garden.
Shaun helped us a great deal with suggestions for places to visit.
Being able to park in the drive is a real bonus and Mounthaven is a 10 minute walk from the river. It is a steep walk up and down the hill but if you stop along the way (several times ! ) to enjoy the view it is not a problem.
The weather during our visit was beautiful so we were able to sit out in their lovely garden and enjoy the views across Dartmouth.
We would definitely return again and we thank Shaun and Rose for their hospitality.

We had a fabulous stay at mounthaven. We were greeted by Shaun and once we had settled in we were invited to sit on the terrace which had amazing views of Dartmouth and had a cream tea which was a lovely touch. We had the smaller college view room but it was still well equipped and had everything we needed. The shower room is modern and well equipped too. Nothing is too much trouble for the hosts, with an amazing breakfast including homemade pear juice and a variety of choice for breakfast including full English.
The walk into town was short so the location is perfect although is down a steep hill, but we didn't find it too bad to walk back up!
Overall we had a lovely stay.

We were asked if we wanted to upgrade for a small extra fee when we arrived as one guest had cancelled and we immediately said yes as the room had a huge bay window with absolutely superb view over the whole of Dartmouth and the harbour. Very well equipped room with all that you might need. It is a short but very steep walk down to the town. Excellent breakfast featuring a variety of cold options including homemade fruit compote and brilliant cooked breakfast options. Superbly equipped with everything that you could possibly need, and a few more things as well! Certainly a place to go back to.

We have just had the best weekend staying in this gorgeous house. We were lucky to have the Castle View room with the most amazing views we have ever looked out on!
The house itself is beautifully decorated and exceptionally clean and cosy and our hosts Rose and Sean were so welcoming. The breakfasts set us up for the day and a lot of the fruit was from the garden.
Such a lovely place to stay and we will definitely be back!!!

We are having such a brilliant time here and are so impressed that I'm writing the review while we are still here. We received such a warm and genuine welcome from Rose and Sean - they really are terrific hosts. The B&B is very homely and spacious, with incredible views and the beds are the most comfortable we have ever slept in. Being able to park at the B&B was a great plus too.

We have just eaten our first breakfast and all the reviews that praise the food are absolutely correct. It really was First Class.

Looking forward to the rest of our stay here. Thank you so much Rose and Sean, you have made our holiday here.

5 star experience with Rose and Sean. Comfortable, clean and with free parking, made our holiday perfect. The hosts were friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. The room with an outstanding view was excellent. Good choice for breakfast.
