Travellers' Choice
This small friendly hotel is one of Dartmouth’s oldest and most interesting buildings. It was originally constructed as a Tudor merchant's house and would have been a welcome sight when the Pilgrim Fathers stopped off at Bayards Cove on their way to America in August 1620. The hotel is conveniently situated in Bayards Cove in the centre of this lovely town, with the market and main shopping area only a short level walk away. Guests are sure to enjoy the unique character of the hotel and its thoughtfully refurbished luxury rooms, all of which have freeview, televisions and DVD players, and some also enjoy views over the water of the cove.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We received a warm welcome to this quirky, ancient hotel. Our two dogs were made to feel very much at home too. Our superior double room was beautifully clean with lovely, locally made toiletries supplied. Dog bowls, beds, towels and treats thoughtfully provided for the dogs. Our dinner here on the first evening was delicious. Gorgeous fresh crab for starters and an outstanding seafood chowder for main, followed by a local cheeseboard. The wine is very reasonably priced. Our breakfast on both mornings was excellent, full of fresh local produce. The croissants were the best I ve had in years! Our dogs enjoyed their special sausages too. We had a smashing weekend in Dartmouth, a delightful little town.

This is the second time here and certainly won’t be the last. We surprised my mother in law and this was her first visit and she loved it. We cannot fault anything here, all is just perfect. Love the quirky place. Can’t wait to return. Thank you to all the staff.

Staying in this historic Inn was a delightful experience. The restaurant was excellent with good quality ingredients and beautifully cooked. Breakfasts set you up for the day. Coffee was very good as were the selection of cakes and other goodies for an 11 o’clock visit. All the staff without exception were friendly and efficient. All works well. Thoroughly recommendable.

This was our favourite coffee spot. They advertise that they use an award winning local hand roasted coffee and it was very good. They have fabulous cakes here usually three we tried the Victoria sponge, the raspberry ripple cake, the lemon and blueberry cake and the carrot cake all were excellent.

Lovely, characterful hotel with clean, cosy, well appointed rooms. Staff were very friendly and helpful. The only initial issue was getting to the hotel on the town's one way system and finding a place to park but once done everything else was excellent.

The looks are deceptive...old,but a lovely place to stop. So full of character. The room was immaculate and had everything you need..even down to a box of tissues. Fully recommend stopping. I will certainly be going back.

The staff we are exceptional. Very friendly and nothing was asked for was too much trouble for them. The building itself is quirk and interesting and situated in an outstanding position. As with most of Dartmouth parking can be a problem but we were able to park beside the inn. Our fifth stay at the hotel and hopefully there will be more to come in the future

Great place, amazing location, exceptional food and friendly, helpful staff. The room was clean and well appointed. Be warned parking is, however, a challenge in Dartmouth. The Inn is centrally located in the town making everywhere easy to walk to.
