Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A short break away in the Hotel Du Vin Exeter… a thoroughly enjoyable couple of days. I couldn’t recommend the hotel highly enough.. absolutely amazing service, great food, even better cocktails… great service from Helen at Breakfast, and Shannon and team for my wife’s spa treatment…. Will definitely be back!! Also really accommodating and welcoming for our four legged friend! Brownie 🐾🐶

The hotel is easy to find and walking distance from the city centre. The building and its history are fascinating and the renovation is great. There are original features of the eye infirmary throughout. I stayed on the 2nd floor and used the stairs, there is a lift as well. The layout is easy to navigate, as it follows the hospital plan. All the staff I met were very professional, welcoming and friendly. The ladies on reception are a credit to the hotel. I was in a "cosy room" which was very clean and well thought out; e.g. lots of plug sockets, luggage rack, a place in the bathroom for make-up, monsoon and regular shower heads. There is an iron and hairdryer in the small wardrobe. There are good pillow options and the heat/cooling system worked well. The hotel grounds are lovely and the pool looked inviting, I forgot my swimming gear but will bring next time. There is a spa with competitive pricing, I did not use on this occasion. You can park if pre-booked for £20 a night, most of the cars on site were Audis, Mercedes and a Bentley so the average guest will not baulk at that cost. I did not use the bar or bistro this time. Overall, a great hotel, well maintained and lovely staff.

We stayed 2 nights at this hotel. Reception staff were lovely and very helpful. Cleaning and maintenance staff were equally lovely and always said hello with a smile. The restaurant staff were amazing, very helpful, polite, good humoured and nothing was too much trouble. The food was wonderful, beautifully cooked and presented, thank you to the chefs! The bar staff were really professional and polite. The hotel was comfortable and clean. We hadn't brought our swimming gear but we dipped our hands in the outdoor poor and it felt lovely and warm. The whole swimming area and changing rooms looked great. There's a spa (i didn't try anything this time but i certainly would, if i go again). The garden was beautifully maintained. If i were to make any changes, i would say the hallway carpet looked past its best (we were on the second floor). But everything about the hotel, particularly the staff, made it a very enjoyable stay. Thank you very much.

I was given a gift voucher for a Hotel du Vin massage for my birthday. The masseuse was lovely and went through everything beforehand. I opted for the deep tissue massage and I haven’t felt so relaxed in years! Just what I needed! Would definitely recommend! After your massage you can go and sit in a separate room where refreshments are provided (for free!) and you can stay as long as you like.

Visited on a Friday night for a family treat to have the Taste du Vin menu in the Bistro - and what a delight that was! We had a drink in the bar first and loved that they came to take our order at a table rather than having to queue at the bar. There’s a really wide range of cocktails and some unique ones too. For dinner, we had our dog with us and the team had laid a table just off the main restaurant which had the same atmosphere but was just tucked away. The tasting menu is really good value for money at £55 per person - 5 courses with a paired wine for each dish. Particular favourites were the Beef Bourguignon, Smoked Salmon Classic and the Chicken Liver Parfait. They were really great with my dairy intolerance and adapted the menu to accommodate this so that it wasn’t just the vegan menu offered (the mushrooms on toast dish from the vegan menu was absolutely divine though, I must say). The service was professional yet friendly and relaxed, which made for a really nice evening. Special mentions to Suzy and Neil for looking after us all night and for making it a really great family meal. Would wholeheartedly recommend the tasting menu and for dinner too - we had a sneak peak at the main menu and it looked great, plus a nice wine list also!

My wife and I were recent guests to our friends wedding evening do, we will not rush back. The bar service was painfully slow, only one barman to serve 2 events, regularly run out of glasses, he left the bar a few times to get more stock, when help did arrive it only lasted 10 minutes or so and then we were back to the long wait for drinks. The buffet food was not great either, especially disappointing was the half piece of bacon in a dry brioche bun. Could do a lot better!!

Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. I am sorry to hear that there were issues with bar service during your visit to the hotel - the wedding group was particularly large and all hit the bar at once. I'm surprised by your feedback about the event, as we had glowing feedback from the wedding couple and other guests. I do hope that you will consider us again for a future visit. Kind regards - Toby, Front Office Manager

We booked a superior room with breakfast, a warm welcome from the receptionist on arrival and swiftly given our room key, after a couple of minutes we managed to work out the confusing layout and found our room. Very comfortable bed, well stocked s;ection of teas and coffees, both ground coffee bags and nespresso pods provided. The wardrobe however was tiny, only space for half a dozen hangers at most, not an issue for us on this occasion, but of you were staying for an event that required formal clothes. The biggest issue was the ridiculous bath/shower combination, a free standing bath with a metal oval rail above holding up the shower curtain, you could not shower without the curtain sticking to you, plus the drain outlet being in the middle of the bath beneath the mat, resulting in the water not flowing away. Please put in a decent bath with a decent shower curtain, what we ahd was a triumph of style over practicality. Breakfast was served in the stunning dining room, the food offering was extensive and of good quality. I would have awarded 5 stars but deducted one for the bath.

The facilities were excellent. The room was extremely comfortable. We enjoyed the Spa and Pool. The staff were all so helpful and friendly. The breakfast buffet was very varied and catered for every taste. We felt we must single out Helen who provided such great service at breakfast, had her eye on everything and offered timely refills and assistance as needed. Many thanks and we would love to visit again.

Hotel Du Vin Spa in the middle of Exeter is a wonderful discovery. It's the perfect place for hardworking women/mums to treat themselves after a long tiring week. I booked a back, neck and shoulder massage with Nathalie, and she was fantastic. She was skilled, polite, and made sure I felt comfortable throughout. Nathalie played relaxing music, warmed the oil before applying it, and gave a thorough massage. The manager, Amy, was also very friendly and professional. I'll definitely be coming back for more.
