We didn't stay at the hotel so can't comment on the rooms etc but recently attended a party at one of the function rooms,I've never been more shocked, the owner/manager? Was the most rudest/ignorant lady I've ever met,the waitresses wasn't much better.ive lived in Exeter all my life and I've never experienced anything like this.WE WILL NOT BE COMING AGAIN !

Central excellent location and although there is no parking on site the multi storey car park across the road was fine and fairly priced for secure overnight parking. We just spent the 1 night here whilst going to see a band at the Phoenix, staff were helpful and the room was comfy and quiet, the City Gate being a pub...

Stayed here on a Monday night for work. The young staff were helpful, friendly, and patient. We'd planned to explore the city centre, but were tired when we arrived, and it was raining, and the bar area looked so welcoming we stayed in - and were glad we did. We sat on a comfortable sofa in the warm conservatory and...

We have just spent 2 nights here and thoroughly recommend it. A really warm welcome, enormous room that was very clean with big wardrobe, tea/coffee making, iron, hairdryer etc. Really helpful staff, called taxis etc. Good breakfast and very reasonable cost - we had a Young's voucher so got free breakfast and a few quid off the room cost. Would...

Initial impressions were ok. Very good location close to everything and the staff were very welcoming. The room seemed spacious and although tired looked ok. There was quite a lot of traffic noise but as a city centre hotel I expected this and it didn't bother me. Unfortunately the bed was dreadful, saggy with a huge dip in the centre....

Enjoyed a great couple of nights at the City Gate last week whilst on business in Exeter. I was in room 5 this time, which I preferred to room 6 as the bathroom is much nicer. The bed was ridiculously comfy and I slept in well past my alarm on both mornings as a result. Great natural light in the...

Stayed here for the night recently while on business in the area. Had the chance to walk around that part of the city in the evening and really enjoyed it, the hotel is surrounded by nice shops and some interesting buildings. Found the staff very friendly but did feel that they spent a lot of time standing behind the bar...

We were visiting family and the City Gate is very well located in the heart of Exeter but not on the main busy road. The room we had (13) at the rear overlooking the beer garden was well appointed and the inclusive breakfast very generous. The bar is well stocked and friendly with cosy fires in winter and lovely outdoor...

Very disappointed here today. We came a few years ago, had to fight to get a table, and found a lovely ambience, good food and wine. Today it was like visiting a different establishment. There was hardly anyone in the bar area, it was a Saturday lunchtime, and we were the only people eating. Choice of food and wine was...
