Townhouse Exeter garners high marks for its comfortable and stylish rooms, which, while celebrated for their cleanliness and chic design, occasionally receive comments on the compact size of the bathrooms. The hotel's serene location is a hit among guests, who also enjoy the unique breakfast hamper service and cozy amenities. The welcoming owners and staff contribute to the hotel's praised service and inviting atmosphere.
While most guests believe the hotel provides good value, a few perceive it as slightly expensive. Nevertheless, its proximity to key attractions and dining options in a peaceful setting makes it popular with visitors.

I was looking for 5 nights stay in Exeter and this B&B caught my eyes. The location is between two major train stations, Exeter St. Davids and Exeter Central which is convenient and I was very fond of the pictures they put online.
Nonetheles, since COVID-19 slow down the hotel business, the B&B itself is going through some major transitions, and I was lucky enough to be the first guest to stay in the cute #7 loft room after it was freshly staged. I booked another bigger room #8 for my friend as well, and we had the most pleasant stay here!
We were impressed upon arrival already as the owner of the B&B is so witty that we couldn't stop laughing at his comments.
The breakfast room is not working at the moment, all breakfast is sent to room in a hamper. The content of the breakfast is both delicious and nutritious.
One additional plus to this B&B is that, they are very thoughtful about open shelves. As a visitor, I prefer to spread out all my items therefore I won't leave anything behind when packing home, Townhouse Exeter offers many open shelves in, well, at least #7 and #8 since I never visited other rooms but I assume they do the same.
I've heard that the breakfast room is going to install a bar to serve more purpose rather than just used in the morning, and I know people will look forward to that transition!

Marie, it was so much fun having you guys stay. So glad the re-vamped #7 was such a hit! We're really pleased with it ourselves - we were going for "panelled reading nook" and were hoping it'd be a fun for travellers! We're still working hard to make the new normal Townhouse experience better than ever and it's great to get feedback that we're moving in the right direction.

We arrived to the PM's announcement to stay away from pubs, restaurants, theatres etc. Not the ideal start to any holiday. We'd already booked a restaurant but decided not to risk it. Ken & Tim were incredibly understanding & open to us ordering take-out in to our room & being understanding was at the forefront of everything Ken & Tim did for us during our stay. They had pocket tissues & antibacterial wash at the ready & ensured that we felt safe / comfortable at every opportunity. The room was comfortable, big & contemporary decorated with all the amenities you'll need. Breakfast was outstanding with plenty of buffet choices & an excellent cooked breakfast. I couldn't recommend The Townhouse & the owners enough. A must if visiting Exeter!

Thank you so much, guys! Such strange times! It was lovely having you at Townhouse (obviously!) - two of our last guests before the lockdown. Hoping everyone is weathering the storm and staying positive. Townhouse is extremely tranquil at the moment. We're making the most of the garden and catching up on some DIY until this blows over. Take it easy and hope everything goes well with the pregnancy.

My husband and I stayed here in December. I can't speak highly enough of this establishment. The hosts were most pleasant and helpful. Our room was spotless, with the added touches of drink making facilities, toiletries and even a sensational smelling pillow mist, to help you to drift off to sleep. The bed and pillows were so comfortable, I slept better than I do in my own bed. Breakfast was a delight, so much choice. Good quality ingredients were used for my full English, which was cooked to perfection. The accommodation was within easy reach of Exeter town centre, even on foot. Overall we really enjoyed our stay at the Townhouse. It is very evident that the owners have a real desire to make their guests stay with them, as enjoyable as possible and have an excellent eye to detail. I have no hesitation in recommending Townhouse, Exeter.

We found TownHouse on line and although we usually book into chain hotels, we decided that we liked the look of it.
We have been nothing but impressed with the whole set up, check in was so easy, greeting was warm and genuine and the rooms are lovely.
We had a double on first floor and twin on ground floor, lovely touch is the mini radio playing classical music.
The bed was so comfy, shower although small tables s powerful and water is beautifully hot.
Breakfast is continental style, with a twist- it’s delivered out souse your room at your agreed time in a thermal hamper, everything you need is there- fresh croissants, jams, coffee, juice and amazing fruit/yogurt pots. breakfast in bed was fab.
The house is set 10 mins walk from city centre and we parked 3 mins walk away (paid parking).
The whole place is well thought through, our hosts treated us to Prosecco and macaroons in the garden to celebrate the Jubilee.
We will be back next year once we know when we are playing Exeter.
Thank you for a great weekend

This upmarket guest house is very well appointed the room (4) was spacious, beautifully decorated and very clean. It had everything we needed for our 3 night stay with a big comfortable bed. The en suite is a wee bit small but did the job. We chose it for its quiet view over the church.
The location is excellent in that you can walk to everywhere in Exeter and it is near the river for the river walks. Parking is at a premium so you need to make sure you book some. We had to hang around a while to wait for someone to leave before we could get in our reserved spot.
Breakfast at the moment is served in the room – continental with croissant, cake and a variety of homemade yogurt pots. It was tasty but a bit unvarying - if we had been there any longer we would have gone out for breakfast. You don’t see much of the hosts in the current environment but they seemed very attentive especially when there was a bit of disruption from other guests/next door during one night.

Thanks so much for choosing Townhouse! We were so worried that when one of the guests set off the fire alarm late at night (first time in 3 years!!!) that our other guests would be grumpy the next morning. Thankfully, everyone was so supportive. We've been looking at breakfasts as we're getting more and more long stays. What we offer is constantly evolving in response to covid etc. We have ideas!

We were made to feel welcome as soon as we stepped through the door. We had reserved parking, which is in the YMCA car park across the road and was £6/night. The place was immaculately clean, and all Covid-19 protocols were being followed - there are track and trace posters on each floor, and hand sanitiser readily available in the public areas. The room was tastefully decorated, the bed was comfy and there were plenty of plug sockets. We stayed in room 9, on the top floor at the front, and it was quiet during the night, even with the window open. The TV doesn't get great signal, but it's a smart TV with access to Netflix/iplayer. We had drinks in their lounge both nights we stayed before heading out for dinner, and the hosts pointed us in the right direction for the local restaurants. At the moment breakfast is via a room service hamper; you choose the time you want it delivered (very important!!), and it comes with a choice of pastry, a choice of yoghurt pot, a Devon treat, orange or cranberry juice, and tea or cafetiere coffee. We thoroughly enjoyed our breakfast in bed! In the room they give you coffee bags and a selection of teas. Can't recommend this place enough, and I'm already thinking of reasons to come and stay again!!

I have stayed here now several times and will continue to use this B & B when visiting my daughter at university. The location is ideal with parking organised by the owners; the rooms are decorated tastefully and contain comfortable beds; good tea and coffee facilities and essential toiletries. The owners are very friendly, and the breakfast is great. Can not recommend it highly enough.

We booked The Townhouse for its perfect location for a University reunion being close (10 minutes walk) to the City centre as well as being a short walk to Exeter Central station and the University campus. Ken and Tim were great welcoming hosts and we enjoyed 3 nights in a spacious room (No 4) overlooking the nearby St Davids church and the back garden of the Guest house and so very quiet. The en-suite shower room although quite small was well equipped with great towels etc. and the bed very comfortable. The room also had a good sized wardrobe for clothes. Each morning we had a Breakfast hamper delivered to our door at a time of our choosing and based on a choice we had made the previous evening. The greek yogurts with fruit and nuts were particularly tasty and filling and the hamper also contained pastries and tea/coffee as requested. The downstairs sitting room was a great place for a drink in the evenings. We would highly recommend a stay at The Townhouse if you are ever in Exeter!

I stayed at this lovely guest house for one night before going to Torquay. I arrived a couple of hours before check in so got some lunch and then had a walk back up the hill in the rain. I was greeted enthusiastically by Tim who told me everything I needed to know and said I would be sleeping with my head in the clouds. Intrigued, I went up to my room which had a sloped ceiling above the bed decorated with cloud wallpaper and the rest of the room was painted a calming bluey grey colour. It was spotlessly clean with crisp white bed linen. After the wet walk I relaxed for a couple of hours and it felt very atmospheric with the rain pouring down against the sky light window. I had a private bathroom adjacent with a lovely bath tub that made use of after exploring again. Breakfast forms were provided and a hamper dropped off outside my room. The yogurt chia seed with mango and coconut was delicious and nice to sit in my pyjamas whilst having breakfast.
I stayed at a posh hotel in Torquay (Got a good deal) but the cosy room I stayed in at the Exeter townhouse was a bit special and the friendly but informal greetings I received here were much more what I like when away.
I wouldn't hesitate to stay here again if in the area, the only downside to my stay was it was only for one night.
All the best Tim and Ken, lovely to meet you and stay at your beautiful place.

Thank you so much, Laura! Room #7 (our single with private bathroom) was one of our Lockdown I projects. You've described exactly what we were trying to achieve with the decor! Although we do try, we're not always successful at making the Devon weather great, but it's wonderful to hear that the atmosphere of the room made up for it. Hope to see you again!

We booked in for 3 nights in a superior king room. On arrival the host who met us was friendly and welcoming.
The room we stayed in was clean and a good size, comfy kingbed(room 4) the duvet was a winter duvet, we stayed during the heatwave it would have been nice to have some cotton shets available instead of the duvet, there was a fan in the room which helped.
The decor was tastefully done.
The milk was not replenished daily therefore we had no milk for tea on our last evening as it was too late to ask we left it, however we asked in the morning and got fresh milk.
Overall a lovely stay, we would stay again if in Exeter.

Hi Scindia! Great having you at Townhouse Exeter. We actually had a stack of sheets available in the lounge for guests who don't want to use the duvet! Apologies that this wasn't made clear - and that your milk wasn't replenished! All guest amenities are supposed to be topped up by housekeeping so we're not sure why that didn't happen! Glad we were on hand in the morning to bring the fresh stuff out, though! Hopefully we'll see you next time!

Hi Catherine! Apologies for delay in responding. We don't get alerts from Tripadvisor (or other third-party sites) so most questions easier by direct email or phone call to us. We're right between St Davids and Central stations, so depending which line you're on it's either a 5 minute flat walk (Central) or a 5 minute walk up a fairly steep hill (St Davids). You can also grab a bus or short cab up the hill if you have a lot of luggage. If walking up from St Davids, please follow street signs, not Google Maps, GPS etc. They'll tell you that the shortest route is up Peep Lane, which we would never recommend as it's a tiny alleyway straight up a near-vertical cliff!
