Beautiful location and lovely to be so close to the river. Wonderful hosts, very helpful and friendly. We (and our dog) we made to feel at home!
The whole room was well presented and lots of lively extra touches ( spring water and biscuits) the bathroom included toiletries and fluffy white towels!
We will return to further explore the area as there us lots to discover! Thank you for a fab stay. Debbie and Marbin Hudson.

We stayed at Lorna Doone w/c 8th April 2024 in Room 9 (second floor). We previously stayed there 10+ years ago, and we thought it was time to go back and visit Lynmouth. We like to go and visit/explore different places (usually new ones for us) hence why it took us so long to go back there. When we booked our room we found out that the previous owners had left 6 years (!) previously and that Russell and Nicky had taken over the B&B. We thought it doesn’t matter, the ‘new’ owners have been here 6 years so they must be doing something right! Russell welcomed us in and after chatting about breakfast and facilities, he showed us to our room. It was lovely, a big king size bed (two singles put together) and really comfortable. The room was bright and welcoming. The en-suite shower room had a window, which is rare in B&B/Hotel accommodation and something that I like as it allows some air flow between the bedroom and the bathroom. Moving on to breakfast. The evening/morning before you are handed over a sheet where you choose your breakfast. This is a good way of preventing waste. You tick all the items you would like to have at breakfast the following morning, instead of being presented with a full plate of English breakfast (if that’s what you like) and only eating half of it with the leftover going in the bin. It seems that Russell was in charge of cooking the breakfast and Nicky was being ‘mother’ (I think that’s how the expression goes). Perfectly cooked poached eggs, sausages, bacon, black pudding, mushrooms, etc… Delicious apple juice (I would have liked more but didn’t want to seem too greedy!). My other half got chatting to other friendly guests, he’s the chatterbox in our couple, takes after his mother! 😉 If that’s your thing, there is a path going up to Watersmeet (coffee stop on the way up and cream tea stop on the way back! Although there are places you can have cream tea at Lynmouth too) and beyond. We were hoping to have a beer at the Rockford Inn but the electricity cables were being changed on the street and so the pub was closed. Pity. On our last evening we went to the Old Merchant, and unbeknown to us, the local shanty singers group was there and started to sing, there was a bucket going around as they were raising money to build a boathouse on the sea front. Despite some of the songs having the lyrics ‘down with the French’ (I didn’t take it personally!), it was a really enjoyable evening and we stayed longer than we would have otherwise and contributed to the bucket takings! Our big surprise was that our host (Russell) was one of the singers and what a strong voice he had! Very impressed! So all in all, we had a lovely stay. Lorna Doone is a really convenient place to be and we have already recommended it to friends. Nicky and Russell will recommend places to eat, most are within walking distance so very handy if you don’t want to drink and drive. I don’t know when we will be back, as, as I’ve mentioned above, we like to explore new areas, but this will certainly be on our list of places to re-visit hoping that Russell and Nicky will still be there.

Brilliant place to stay . Very pleasant hosts and delicious breakfasts made our three day break a real delight. Rooms were light and freshly decorated and the daily renewed hospitality tray included bottled water. The house overlooks the river and is a few minutes flat walk from Lynmouth shops and restaurants. Our friends brought their dog and he received a warm welcome too. Lots of places to walk directly outside the house and a quiet seating area for those who want to watch the world go by. We really enjoyed it and intend to return ! Would highly recommend.

Just returned from our second stay at the Lorna Doone, and our stay was even better than last time, and also exceptional value for money. Nicky and Russell work hard to make your stay relaxing and stress free, the rooms are spotless, and Russell cooks a perfect breakfast, the produce used is top notch quality, and locally sourced. I would recommend booking your evening meals well in advance in Lynton and Lynmouth, we went to the Oak Room Tapas, The cottage Thai, and The Vanllla Pod, all very good, and they were all turning non booking’s away on the night.

Just back from one night stay here with B&B and found it all to be fantastic and even better than what we were expecting. Had arranged with host Nicky to supply afternoon cream tea with bubbles for two on arrival. This was a suprise for my wife and was all laid out beautifully on two tables outside on the veranda (see photos) Scones were freshly made, jam, cream and coffee all lovely and with the bubbles made for a perfect afternoon setting. Many envious eyes and positive comments noted from friendly passing visitors and locals. A great start to our stay. We had booked the Four poster bed room which overlooked the river, everything was spotless and quite a large nice room actually with original Victorian fire place Both Russell and Nicky were very friendly and informative Hosts who obviously take great care and pride in their business. Location was excellent with a nice short walk into the town/harbour area. There is offroad parking for 6 cars and we had no problem finding location with booking form supplied directions. Breakfast was freshly cooked, hot and very tasty and pre ordered the night before. Covid awareness/precautions were excellent and cleaning obviously carried out to exacting standards. Overall a very nice short stay and we would look no further for accommodation if we were to come again. So Nicky and Russell, thank you very much for your hospitality and care, we had a great time and will look back with fond memories of our stay at Lorna Doone House.

I booked this place last min, I stayed in the walkers single room, was expecting a basic room . What a pleasant surprise when I checked in a warm and friendly welcome, the single walkers room was on the 3 floor with views to the back, it had lovely charecture windows was very tastefully decorated double bed bed side draws and a chest of draws a generous helping of tea coffee hot chocolate kettle tv with remote, a lively soft bed and pillows with a good size en suite ( bigger than some I had paid twice as much to stay at) it was a single room full of charecture. Breakfast worked on a menu you had to chose from the night before and leave downstairs a slot for your breakfast was allocated on your sheet I am sure if you needed the early slot best advised to phone ahead so they could allocate it to you very accomodating owners. A choice of drinks cereals and hot food including full breakfast and salmon and scrambled eggs, every thing was cooked perfect boiling hot and fresh, .. I can not recommend this B &B enough I felt right at home, you will not be diapointed

Located within easy walking distance to Lynmouth village yet away from the main busy visitor areas. Situated by the East Lyn river which does make it sound like it’s raining heavy outside even on a dry day but you soon get used to it. You do choose your breakfast on a tick sheet the night before but this saves waste and means less waiting for your main cooked breakfast the next morning, which was always well prepared. On the same sheet you can reorder any room refreshment etc that you may require. Room was very tidy and clean and comfortable. Would I stay again, absolutely.

We liked this place very much. It's beautifully located on the River Lyn just a short walking distance from the centre of the pretty village. Our hosts Russell and Nicki were very helpful and keen to assist us with our exploration of the area. Our room was excellent and breakfast was great!
It was very pleasant sitting on the front porch and watching the river go by. It's also interesting to turn left at the front door (instead of right, into town) to stroll upstream into the steep and beautiful forested countryside.
Our accommodation was booked by Macs Adventures, which organised our South West Coast Path Walk and we absolutely applaud their choice!

Second stay at the Lorna Doone and not disappointed. It is in an excellent location on the banks of the river Lyn and just a 5 minute walk to the centre of Lynmouth. The place is kept to a high standard and the rooms are homely and comfortable. Breakfast is pre ordered on the night before and is very cooked (if you go for a full English). Nicky and Russell are lovely people and it also a joy to have a chat. Can;t wait for our next visit.

Just returned from a fantastic 3 night stay with Nicky and Russell who were warm and welcoming hosts and nothing was too much trouble for them. The location is brilliant, within easy walking distance of the centre of Lynmouth, and lots of footpaths straight from the door. We stayed with my parents and our dog in the top floor 2 rooms, both had a fabulous view of the river and really spacious ensuites. The guest house is extremely clean, nicely decorated and the veranda is a wonderful bonus, so nice to sit out and have a drink. They have parking on site, and we ate dinner with them 2 evenings, which was great as didn't have the worry of trying to find somewhere to eat which is difficult in these Covid times. The evening meals and breakfasts were cooked extremely well. Also nice that they are licensed, so could have a drinkie with our evening meal! We really enjoyed our stay and will return for sure. Would highly recommend. Thank you for a great time.
