Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Beautiful spot on Exmoor. We loved camping here, back to basics, just what we wanted; sinks for washing up, proper loos and hot showers. Carole is very helpul and regularly around site. Lovely tea room and Shop/ gallery just around the corner . We all loved the river and Ford. Happy memories made : )

Booked by a friend. Both of us on motorbikes, small tent each, £12 pp per night we were told, however on paying, we were charged £15 each! I didn’t realise until we’d discussed it after we left so didn’t have opportunity to challenge. We’d booked for a weekend of dark sky simple camping but weather led to it being only a one night stay. We’d definitely return but be more prepared, as it’s quite a distance to find a shop for supplies after we’d arrived and tbh the small single track, steep roads were a challenge by bike! There weren’t many campers, possibly due to weather forecast so luckily 2 ladies and 2 men’s showers wasn’t a problem but in busier periods it might be a struggle. Facilities were clean and adequate and showers warm. We will return.

We were charged £10 instead of £7 despite the sign saying 16-17 year olds are £7 as the women believed we came ‘under our own steam’ .which apparently means that legally and biologically we were all over the ages of 18. By her faulted logic any child who traveled to the campsite in an automobile, despite their age should be charged £10 .We would have no issues paying if she hadn’t lied and the sign didn’t dipute her. She obviously made it up on the spot as we potielty ask her why she wasn’t charging us £7 (the correct amount) .We were happily going to pay the price which it was advertised as, but the women clearly thought she could take advantage of teenage girls and over charge them. £3 might not seem like a lot but for teenage girls who have been belittled and disrespected by the camp owner it really soured our experience. if your going to run a business where customer experience is vital for your growth then i would personally consider being much more polite and following the rules and prices you set yourself ❤️

What a fantastic campsite. Our first time visiting. Stunning location and gorgeous campsite. My two children loved playing in the stream that runs through the campsite. Carol is a very attentive owner. We could buy logs direct from her. She was always making herself available and kept the toilet facilities and showers tidy. So nice to have a hot shower at camp! We took some gorgeous walks direct from camp. There is a lovely nearby cafe if yiu want a break from camp cooking. We will definitely return. Thank you Carol.

Very nice campsite very clean, very clean toilets and showers. Plenty walking opportunity. Very nice entrance going through a ford. A shame the shop is closed. Camping price is very reasonable, only price for electric £ 7 a night very steep

A peaceful campsite, friendly staff and campers. A stream flows through the site which is really magical. Campfires and dogs are allowed. The view of the stars at night was out of this world. So many different walks directly from the site.

A perfect place for peace and walking straight from the site along the Doone Valley and up on Exmoor. Showers and toilets , though dated, kept immaculate by Carol. Lovely flat pitches...choose for yourself. I will return. Thanks Carol.

We have just returned from a long weekend at the campsite and loved every minute of it. The site is just how a country campsite should be, not over complicated or full of bright lights and you choose your spot, perfect. The surroundings are stunning with lots of walks and this time of year the Rhododendrons are in flower and look amazing. We found Carol nice and cheery. Will definitely go back.

The place itself is nice. It has all the basic facilities and more. Toilets, drinking water tap, pot wash, showers, chem disposal, dog walking area, a lake you can swim in, rope swings, nice flat ground to pitch, fire pits, picnic benches, beautiful scenery and great walks. BUT the owner Carol is impatient, ignorant, curt and just, well, rude! My friends have visited previously and have said the same. Beware of Porlock Hill, I have a 1.2 engine and just made it up in 2nd! If you're not an experienced driver and have a small car I would advice taking the toll road which has some lovely views and is a more enjoyable drive. The place gets 4 stars but I rated 3 because of the owner. It was an ok place but because of Carol I would probably chose somewhere else next time.
