I have just returned from a 4 day stay, Carol runs the site brilliantly and is friendly and informative about the local area, there is wi fi and a lovely shelter with electric sockets for those not on hook up. Best of all there is a community freezer for you to chill your lager etc . Freeze your ice packs and store your food such a good idea. There are beautiful walks, and the site is not far from the lovely towns of Porlock, Lymouth and Valley of the Rocks, I will return soon.
Lovely campsite, well run, and family friendly. Facilities are a little meagre but adequate. There is hot water in the showers which is great. There is a lovely walk to Lynmouth which takes about 3 hours to undertake. Otherwise there is not a lot to do in the area.
When arriving at the campsite there is no office, no staff about, a sign says just pitch up and someone will find you. We found Carol (the owner) later in the afternoon who sold us some logs for a camp fire. Carol was very rude and not very helpful at all. The showers and toilets were flooded so we couldnt use them. The site itself is lovely, set in a beautiful location, the grass was kept nice and short and the whole site was very clean and tidy (apart from the showers and toilets.
My fiancé had found the campsite online and contacted the owner. He said she was very helpful! She advised that she wouldn't be at the site when we'd planned to visit but her friends were staying and we were able to pay them. We were one of about four groups staying over the weekend. It was easy to find a pitch with a fire pit and bench close-by. Being able to have fires was a great perk. It kept us warm on a frosty night in September! The toilet facilities were basic but the showers were piping hot! I've read other reviews with complaints about the toilets, the problem with flooding doesn't happen if the shower curtain is over the shower and not floor. We were misled by Lorna Doone Inn thinking we'd be able to have dinner there one evening, but it seems it's more of a tea room with the inn signage still up! Instead we went to The Staghunters in Brendon. Definitely recommend the campsite and looking forward to staying again. …
We stayed at the Shepherd's Cottage, which is on AirBnB. Its on the campsite though, and we will probably come back another time to camp. There's a handy cafe round the corner that does amazing breakfast. Really nice people, nice vibe.
