Hotel's Favourite
We love Devon but usually go self catering. This time we booked a romantic B & B short break away. We chose the Choughs Nest Hotel out of curiousity, having walked past it so many times en route from Lynton to the Valley of the Rocks and we weren’t disappointed. We had a fabulous room with a large en-suite - the bed was so comfy and the views were spectacular. The family running the hotel were lovely, really pleasant and friendly. We will recommend and return next year. Thanks to everyone who made our stay so special 🥰

We stayed at the Chough's Nest Hotel for one night back in July. The property is a beautiful old building (I believe Victorian but I might be wrong) which has been decorated in a way that is very traditional and in keeping but still feels light and very clean. We had a room with a beautiful view across the Bristol Channel and it was wonderful to watch the Welsh coastline light up across the water at dusk. You can walk into both Lynton and Lynmouth from the hotel and there is a wonderful Victorian (I think) cliff train to take you back up the steep hill from Lynmouth. Breakfast was delicious and served on traditional tableware which makes you think you have gone back in time.

This is a quiet, peaceful coastal hotel with fantastic sea views, a couple of minutes walk to the centre of Lynton. For us it struck just the right balance between being homely and luxurious, best of both really which you’d only get from a well run family hotel. The room was very comfortable and spacious, the proprietors were at all times welcoming and helpful, enjoyable high quality breakfast too. The open fire in the sitting room was a great touch for the fairly wet and windy time we were there.
Being on the coast path it was a great base to explore both the valley of rocks and Lynmouth, using the cliff railway to get back up, to just above the hotel. Very much hope to back some day.

We spent 3 nights at the delightful Chough's Nest B&B, we chose it for its location and fabulous views, we had room 7 which was on the second floor and had a wonderful view across the water to Wales. The room and bathroom were both spotless and the double bed comfortable. Breakfasts were very good, cooked to order, and served in the dining room which also has good views.
Lynton is a delightful little town to spend a few days, it also gives good access to Exmoor and its walks.

Back from a short break at this lovely hotel. The location is superb sat atop the amazing cliffs providing a perfect base for the many walks the area is famed for. Every bedroom provides a majestic view of the ocean. Clean and well maintained.
It’s the hosts in a hotel like this who have the power to make the difference and elevate a stay from just another place to sleep to a place you look forward to returning to after a tiring day. This hotel is run by a lovely husband & wife team who provide a warm friendly welcome and plenty of local knowledge to help with your stay.
The home cooked breakfast was particularly well received and made a perfect start to every day.
In short I’d highly recommend this place, go see for yourself!

We spent two nights at The Chough's Nest. The decor feels a bit like stepping back in time but this is no bad thing as there are lots of interesting pictures and bits to look at.
Rose and John are very friendly and welcoming. The breakfasts are hearty and there is plenty of choice. Well maintained with large, clean rooms.
The stand-out perk of this hotel though is the view. We were on the top floor with a sea view and it was stunning - even with overcast skies! A short walk down the lane takes you to the Valley of the Rocks and the (warning: very steep) path down to Lynmouth is very nearby too so it is a great location for exploring. Highly recommend.

Our first visit to Lynton & Lynmouth was made perfect by staying at the Clough's Nest Hotel. Staying in a superior room with dual aspect views one overlooking the Exmoor hills the other offering great coastal views. A very clean room with a lovely bathroom.
A lovely warm welcome on arrival from the hosts who were most helpful, friendly with a natural presence.
The breakfast was ample and freshly cooked.
We will definitely be going back.

Have always loved Lynton but this was our first time at Chough's Nest. What a find! A gorgeous, traditional old hotel full of charm, yet cosy and comfortable on the North Walk...(our favourite part of Lynton).
The owners, Rose and John proved to be hospitable, lovely hosts. We stayed for 3 nights in the Nest room which had a four poster bed, great ensuite and stunning sea views. Beautifully quiet so we were able to truly relax and sleep.
All appropriate measures insitu to comply with Covid guidelines, yet these measures were unobtrusive to enable you to feel safe, yet not detrimentally impact upon your relaxation.
Breakfast was perfect; taken whilst enjoying those glorious sea views.
We were able to head off each day and enjoy the stunning walks and scenery Lynton has to offer and in the evenings, dine at charming local eateries. Whilst not overly busy, enough is open to enable you to browse the quaint local shops and sit and enjoy a latte in one of the lovely independent cafes.
We enjoyed our stay so much, we elected to spend a fourth night and stayed in room 2, an equally comfortable, charming room.
A perfect stay that has filled up the memory tank with beautiful memories....and when ready for a top-up, we'll certainly return to this idyllic hotel.

Lovely b+b in a beautiful location on the cliff top at Lynton with its amazing view. We were in room 7 which was spacious and comfy. Friendly and helpful owners. Breakfast was delicious, we'd recommend the Welsh rarebit. Booked it direct as they don't use the search sites which was probably why we found a room at short notice in peak season. Great find, really enjoyed our stay. Do book to eat out in summer, it's very busy there.

We stayed at Chough's Nest for four nights in August. This really is a lovely family run hotel, we received a warm welcome on arrival and the owners are very pleasant and helpful with good knowledge of the local area.
Our room was on the first floor, room 3, a large room equipped with everything we needed including a small fridge which was very useful for chilling bottles of water and wine. The biggest plus point has to be the stunning coast and sea views from the rooms. At night you can see the twinkling lights on the Welsh coast in the distance.
Breakfasts were well organised with a good choice of options, portion sizes were generous! A pleasant distraction at breakfast was observing the varied species of birds on the feeders outside.
The weather wasn't great during our stay but we still managed to do a lot of walking and enjoyed our break, Lynton really is a lovely place.
