Set in the heart of Britain’s Ocean City, the Duke of Cornwall is a stunning period hotel brimming with character and style. Built as Plymouth’s first luxury hotel in 1863, the Duke has been lovingly preserved and enhanced so that its unique Victorian Gothic splendour can still be enjoyed by guests today. The hotel’s 72 rooms are all individually designed with thoughtfully-selected designer wallpapers and vintage furniture, creating a chic look that does justice to the building’s striking architecture. With a range of bedroom sizes and styles available, from comfortable en-suites to indulgently romantic four-poster rooms, there’s accommodation to suit everyone. The Duke’s luxury extends to its impressive culinary offerings. Fine dining is available (for guests and non-guests alike) in the comfort of the hotel’s elegant restaurant. With an AA rosette and a dynamic team of chefs, its dishes look and taste sensational. Light lunches and a generous choice of drinks are available in the lounge, with its welcoming bar and, in the colder months, a homely log fire. If you’re planning a wedding, party or business event, the Duke is the ideal choice. With a wealth of experience in organising celebrations and group events, a range of room options and a full set of facilities and equipment, the hotel has everything you need to ensure your event runs smoothly. And with the backdrop of the Duke’s stunning decor and features, you can be sure your guests will be impressed, whether the occasion is one of business or pleasure. As well as the merits that await guests within, the Duke also offers a fantastically convenient location in the centre of Plymouth. The hotel is a short walk from the city’s abundance of shops, restaurants and bars, as well as the historic Plymouth Hoe, Sutton Harbour and the Barbican, with their spectacular sea views. And it’s a mere stone’s throw from two of the South West’s finest entertainment venues, the Theatre Royal and Plymouth Pavilions – making the hotel the ideal overnight stop-off or meeting place if you’re catching a show. Whether you’re visiting Plymouth or it’s the city you call home, you’ll find the Duke of Cornwall a pleasure to experience. With its fascinating history, friendly but professional service, and breathtaking style, the Duke is truly a gem in Britain’s Ocean City.

This is my favourite hotel when staying in Plymouth. It's 5mins stroll from the Brittany Ferries ferry port and the same from local shops, restaurants and pubs. 10mins walk to the city centre and Barbican...anyway... The easy, fast and friendly check-in set the tone for my stay

We love this hotel. It has character, a top quality of service, brilliant staff and extremely comfortable rooms. It is ideally situated for the business centre of the city, the Theatre Royal, the Pavilions and the Hoe.

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review following your stay, it is appreciated. I am pleased to hear that on the whole your stay was a pleasant one and that you enjoyed breakfast. I am sorry to hear that you felt rushed on the morning of your departure. I have spoken to our Head of Housekeeping and she has asked me to apologise for this. As you said, our check out is not until 11 am and guests have the use of their bedroom until this time. Our housekeeping team start their day at 9 am and usually knock on each door to see if guests have vacated early. As I'm sure you can appreciate, guests check out at different times during the morning and the team just like to get a head start where possible. We do not mean to rush guests at all and would not like to think that they felt this way. I apologise again that this negatively impacted your stay and please be assured that we have taken your feedback on board. We hope to welcome you back in the near future. Best wishes, The Duke Team.

Arrived on the 12th, was told we had to pay for parking when we checked in. Went out for the evening and came back to find that there was no space for the car. Went to reception to rectify and was told to park somewhere else at an additional charge despite having previously paid

Hi. Breakfast is included in many of our room rates, if it isn't included then it costs £12.50 for a Full English breakfast or £10.50 for a continental buffet breakfast. Parking is free within our car park. I hope this helps. Best wishes, The Duke Team.

Hello, I am afraid that our reception team would not be able to help book your ferry in July. We are so sorry that we are unable to help, but planning other elements of your break that would then be outside of our control would not be best for you or our team. We hope that planning your break goes well and if you would still like to discuss a room at the hotel please do get in touch. Best wishes, the Duke Team
