Set in the heart of Britain’s Ocean City, the Duke of Cornwall is a stunning period hotel brimming with character and style. Built as Plymouth’s first luxury hotel in 1863, the Duke has been lovingly preserved and enhanced so that its unique Victorian Gothic splendour can still be enjoyed by guests today. The hotel’s 72 rooms are all individually designed with thoughtfully-selected designer wallpapers and vintage furniture, creating a chic look that does justice to the building’s striking architecture. With a range of bedroom sizes and styles available, from comfortable en-suites to indulgently romantic four-poster rooms, there’s accommodation to suit everyone. The Duke’s luxury extends to its impressive culinary offerings. Fine dining is available (for guests and non-guests alike) in the comfort of the hotel’s elegant restaurant. With an AA rosette and a dynamic team of chefs, its dishes look and taste sensational. Light lunches and a generous choice of drinks are available in the lounge, with its welcoming bar and, in the colder months, a homely log fire. If you’re planning a wedding, party or business event, the Duke is the ideal choice. With a wealth of experience in organising celebrations and group events, a range of room options and a full set of facilities and equipment, the hotel has everything you need to ensure your event runs smoothly. And with the backdrop of the Duke’s stunning decor and features, you can be sure your guests will be impressed, whether the occasion is one of business or pleasure. As well as the merits that await guests within, the Duke also offers a fantastically convenient location in the centre of Plymouth. The hotel is a short walk from the city’s abundance of shops, restaurants and bars, as well as the historic Plymouth Hoe, Sutton Harbour and the Barbican, with their spectacular sea views. And it’s a mere stone’s throw from two of the South West’s finest entertainment venues, the Theatre Royal and Plymouth Pavilions – making the hotel the ideal overnight stop-off or meeting place if you’re catching a show. Whether you’re visiting Plymouth or it’s the city you call home, you’ll find the Duke of Cornwall a pleasure to experience. With its fascinating history, friendly but professional service, and breathtaking style, the Duke is truly a gem in Britain’s Ocean City.

The Duke is a lovely hotel, not a brand outlet but it is very unique, the room was very clean very big, the bed was a very good size and the bathroom was excellent. Did not have dinner at the hotel but enjoyed a bar snack which was excellent. What was really enjoyable was the

This is a very difficult review to do if I want to give a true representation. There was some excellence and some disasters. It started with the booking of the party and the rooms for the New Years Eve party. Making the booking was difficult. We had to contact them several

Thank you for taking the time to leave such a detailed review. Like you we always aim to give a true representation of events, hence taking the time to give you a thorough response. I have spoken in detail with the member of my team that booked you in for the evening, the confirmation was sent immediately, we understand that this didn't reach you and when you contacted us we immediately sent the original confirmation to show that it was sent and we apologised for any technology errors that were out of our control. Again the food and wine lists were sent immediately. When you weren't happy with our wine list our Operations Manager said he would personally order anything that you would like, but we never had a reply from you on this. I am very confused about the entertainment issue as I personally called everyone who had booked on the 31st October when we made the decision to change the entertainment. Your initial booking came in on the 9th November and the member of my team who you spoke to informed everyone of the New Year entertainment, this was often done on the phone or by email if that was the persons preferred means of contact, obviously for you it was a phone call. This was then noted on our booking system. This information was across our website and social media as it was paramount to make sure every guest was happy. We were very clear and we are confident that every guest was informed. We are unsure why you called on New Year's Eve to confirm entertainment. We take on board all of your comments about the room and your feedback (both positive and negative) has been shared with the relevant Departments. Obviously you have been in touch with our Operations Manager who has listened to your concerns, answered all points raised, personally offered complimentary wine on New Year's Eve as we like all guests to be happy and gave you a complimentary room and discounted the other bedroom, we are sorry this was not enough. We hope we have answered all of your points and wish you all the best for 2019. Best wishes, The Duke Team

A beautiful hotel, just on the edge of the city centre and a very short stroll from Plymouth Hoe. The architecture of this historic hotel is stunning, and the interior has been beautifully restored. The stunning staircase at the heart of the building really captures the spirit

Good afternoon, thank you for taking the time to leave a review, it is really appreciated. We are so pleased that you loved the architecture and period features of the hotel, it is indeed a very special building. We are glad to hear that you liked your bedroom and although you experienced issues with the Wi-Fi at first, these were soon dealt with. Our Lounge was refurbished in January 2018, we are sorry to hear that this space was not to your liking. We are pleased that you were able to make use of our free car park, it is a wonderful addition to the hotel. We are sorry that you found the extraction fan to be noisy from your room. Our team allocated you a bedroom at the back of the hotel as this is generally considered quieter than the front due to being further away from the road. We hope to welcome you back in the near future and would highly recommend that you try one of our fully cooked breakfasts. Best wishes, The Duke Team.

Hi. Breakfast is included in many of our room rates, if it isn't included then it costs £12.50 for a Full English breakfast or £10.50 for a continental buffet breakfast. Parking is free within our car park. I hope this helps. Best wishes, The Duke Team.

Hello, I am afraid that our reception team would not be able to help book your ferry in July. We are so sorry that we are unable to help, but planning other elements of your break that would then be outside of our control would not be best for you or our team. We hope that planning your break goes well and if you would still like to discuss a room at the hotel please do get in touch. Best wishes, the Duke Team
