A rare survivor from pre-War days when Plymouth had an impressive Victorian city centre. Originally a station hotel, this impressive landmark building has vast corridors with original ceiling height bedrooms, splendid central staircase and grand public rooms. Nice old fashioned wood furniture in bedrooms and modern wood panelled bathrooms. Small car park at the back with direct access to the first floor of hotel. Limited basic menu during Covid but tasty food and staff very friendly. Very good rates and independently owned until recently, this is a much better choice of hotel than the rather anonymous bland chain hotels in the city centre. Glad I stayed.
We stayed for 3 nights on a secret escape deal of dinner bed and breakfast. We found the staff very friendly and the food was very good. The breakfast was very good with great choices. The evening meal was a restricted menu but the food was very tasty. While we were staying here the lift didn't work but we found walking up 3 flights of stairs to our room helped walk of all the nice food we were eating. The hotel is dated but the room we stayed in was very spacious with a great wet room with a choice of a regular shower or a rain shower. We also found the bed comfortable. Due to covid the rooms get cleaned every 3 days but reception will give you clean towels and anything else you require. The hotel has a great location but limited parking.
Bookrd a Secfet Escapes overnight stay as a surprise for my hubby. Hotel staff were all friendly and helpful. Food was very good and tasty. The room was good for size only downside was because a very old hotel the windows let in cold air, and only a duvet the room wasn't very warm. Could have done with more heating and extra bedding bit would still recommend a stay. Loved the character of the hotel, especially the long sweeping staircase.
It was wonderful to stay at this hotel, all the Covid 19 precautions with plenty of hand santizer was available on dispensers around the hotel. The staff are exceptionally freindly and efficient, I travelled with my bicycle and the hotel reception ensured my bike was secure. Double Rooms are very spacious with well appointed bathrooms.
My wife and I were given a Champagne Tea at the Top as a present last year and with COVID-19 have only just had the pleasure of enjoying it. Based in the tower at the top of the hotel you have amazing views across Plymouth Sound and out over the city to Dartmoor and Cornwall. We had the pleasure of all four seasons in the time we spent here - and they were all spectacular from this vantage point. The service from our arrival until we left was excellent and our butler, Christian, was a joy. The sandwiches, cakes and cream tea were delicious! We’ve never had an afternoon tea before but this was quite magical. Thank you!
