Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.

Love this hotel. We’ve just come back from our 3rd visit and the rooms just get better. Lisa, the host and owner is lovely and so bubbly. The garden is huge and stunning and they have a nice big pool too. We overlooked the sea and the fair was in town which we had a slight view of. Breakfast is a large tasty helping. Well cooked and the waitress is a sweetie. This is our first choice of hotel when we go to Torquay and will no doubt go for a 4th visit. Nicely tucked out the way up behind the railway station so not noisy or crowded. Very relaxing. A definite must if you’re thinking of taking a holiday in Torquay. Which in itself is a beautiful place to stay. There’s a very sweet little ginger and white cat that hangs around who is very friendly and that’s always a plus. Fantastic hotel.

What a lovely hotel. Liza the owner cannot do enough to ensure that your stay is perfect. The hotel is quirky, spotlessly clean and like a home from home. The breakfast is freshly cooked to order with all the normal full English items. Great location to visit the local area. We will definitely be returning.

We first stayed at the Elmington Hotel with owner Liza back in July 2022. So positive was our experience that we vowed we would return at the first opportunity. This opportunity came just over a week ago and we were not in any way disappointed. Our planned two night stay became three! The Hotel was quiet and this provided us with the opportunity to get to know the owner Liza a lot better. She has been at the Elmington for many years and therefore knows all there is to know about how to run a hotel and treat her guests. She is a kind, considerate and warm host. The Elmington is well positioned with some rooms looking out over Torquay bay. It has a lovely swimming pool and well kept and extensive gardens. It has generous private car parking and is within walking distance of the railway station and major bus routes into Torquay, Paignton and Brixham. If you feel like walking into Torquay along the water front then this is easily achievable in about 15 minutes or so. The Hotel and rooms are well kept and very clean and the breakfasts are excellent. We had been visitors to Torquay for many years, staying at various guest houses around the town. Although many of these were very good it wasn't until we discovered the Elmington and Liza that we got what we would term the 'full package'. Once again Liza thank you for a most enjoyable stay and experience. We will be back again as soon as possible.

This hotel is spotless, breakfast is excellent and the owner and staff are amazing. Nothing is too much trouble. The hotel is located near the train station which is really useful for days out or if you travel to Torquay by train. A short walk takes you to stops to catch frequent buses to many locations. Car Parking on site is also very useful. Like many Victorian/Edwardian hotels in Torquay there are many stairs to different levels and rooms and bathrooms vary in size and convenience. I’d advice guests to choose their rooms wisely. My husband has mobility issues and I had to request another room nearer the ground floor. This wasn’t an issue for the owner; she was very accommodating.

This has been our third stay at the Elmington Hotel. What a find - it's perfect. The rooms and hotel have beautiful furnishings, it is clean and very comfortable. The gardens are kept to a lovely standard. Liza is a superb host, so friendly and welcoming. Great breakfast, nice pool, what more could you want? Near to the station and away from the hub bub of the centre. Just love it here.

Absolute gem of a place . We will definitely be coming here again. It’s tucked away but well within walking distance of the town . And right by the train station. Lovely views from room 16 . Everything is spotless. There’s lots of nicknacks around and not a spec of dust anywhere. The breakfast was very tasty and lots of choices of cereals and fruits before a really nice cooked breakfast. The pool was also fantastic , lovely and clean and surprisingly warm . And the bed was very comfortable. The only downside was the en-suite was a tad small however, there was a bathroom down the hall with a lovely deep bath. The owner is fabulous, very friendly and always smiling ♥️

Over the course of many years we have been frequent visitors to Torquay and as such have stayed in many very good hotels and guest houses. However, none of them have made quite the impression that we would definitely want to return. That is until we discovered the Elmington. Liza has owned the Elmington for some 23 years and is a wonderful host. She is friendly and has an infectious laugh and engaging manner which rubs off on everyone. The Elmington is in a prime location and has good size on site car parking at the front and rear. Its set in wonderful spacious grounds and even has a first class swimming pool. The gardens have been lovingly attended to by Liza. The double room we had was spacious and the bed was supersize. The ensuite was equipped with a shower but no bath. It more than suited our needs during our 3 night stay. The hotel is located close to Torquay rail station (not that you would know this) and a short distance to the main bus route into Torquay (or Paignton and Brixham). You can even walk to and from Torquay centre and marina. Breakfasts were excellent and the décor within the hotel was of a very high taste and standard. We cannot speak highly enough about the Elmington - its location and excellent surroundings. More importantly we cannot speak highly enough about Liza and her staff. Will definitely be returning! Thank you Liza. Wayne & J

This hotel was a good hotel value for money. Located in a quiet Lane not far from the station and close to the sea. The hotel boasts of a heated swimming pool. With sun loungers on the pool surround, unfortunately there were only 8 of which 2 were you should take towels for the pool as an are provided. The bedrooms very clean and tidy, but lack in in The Small Things you would expect for this type of hotel e.g. refrigerator and a fan. The bathroom consists of a sink a 90 cm shower and a toilet if you're on the large size it will be difficult to get into the shower. The breakfast was very good hot what and fresh with selection of fruit and cereals as well as the traditional English breakfast

Having stayed here before 4 years ago and met 2 couples, who we stayed in touch with. Covid put paid to us all meeting up again. This year finally we had our reunion and of course it was like there had been 4 days not 4 years between visits. Not least because as previously, our dear Treasured friend Liza made us all welcome and we had a wonderful 5 days. As before the breakfasts were PERFECT, the room comfortable and the pool, heated. Liza is the most wonderful lady. An astute business woman with a kind touch and an amazing sense of humour. Thank you again Liza, you're amazing!! See you again soon hopefully.
