Not many hotels have a beach hut to stay in but this one does so it makes it a bit different. The hotel has a great setting and views by the beach and a short walk to the funicular railway into Babbacombe. It is expensive, so thankfully breakfast, which was great, was included. The service was also excellent and we ate in the pod outside which was again a bit different. There is a spa but they now charge £25 a day. The hotel is set at the bottom of a very steep hill, but they will bring your car to reception if you want to go to the surrounding area.
We were at cary arms back in October of last year and when we left I quietly booked a three night stay for our 20 yr anniversary a week ago. We can not fault at all the Cary arms at Babbacombe for their hospitality the staff are fantastic, the chefs put on the best breakfast, lunch, and dinner . The rooms are great with lovely fees of Babbacombe bay and our room this time was Fleet Admiral you will not be disappointed,! Not much else to say it’s just a “ great place” Glyn Morgan
Forgot to review this fine hotel after our February visit. We loved it, upon entering it’s very casual and in fact a little pub like. The staff are exceptionally warm and welcoming, ourselves and the dog enjoyed the excellent room/suite over the water. It was beautifully appointed, spacious and comfortable with everything included that you’d expect. Nice linen, great shower, etc etc. Breakfast was very good, their boisterous service team really went out of their way to take care of us, we ate dinner here as well and although the food on the menu is relatively simple the quality is excellent. We might return with our children on another occasion. Beautiful location, well appointed but again kudos to the excellent staff they have 👍
Stayed at the Cary Arms with my wife and toddler for a long weekend. We had a great stay. The hotel has very nice amenities and modern touches while still keeping its charm. The location is great and views are stunning. Food and service are excellent. We forget our stroller and they were very helpful in getting it back. A special place.
After a gruelling tine with my husbands health we needed a get away and we both searched online and funny enough both like the Cary Arms, so we booked it. Oh my word, this was jut what we needed, it was the best few days we have had. The STAFF are just AMAZING! The setting and the views wow, the walks, the food it was absolutely wonderful. The spa treatments with Chloe just made us so chilled out. We had the best time. Olivia, Linda, Anne-Marie, Rachel, Bailey, Tracey, Dave and all the staff you are an absolute treasure and they are very lucky to have you all. We will be back every year without fail. Please try this beautiful place.
£15 for 2 pints of lager and a bag of crisps.. Torquays most expensive pub.. Which sits in a lovely location but still smells of sewage..Its not even table service.. At least Dick Turpin wore a mask 😑💩😑
We returned for a complimentary treatment at the spa and it was totally amazing. Chantelle did a fab job, the products smelt amazing and I would happily say it’s the best massage I’ve ever had. Thank you Chantelle
Beautiful setting, fabulous room practically on the beach with a beautiful deck and lovely staff. Breakfast was delicious and evening meal was also excellent (although my medium steak was a bit over cooked on one night). The menu was the same for a whole stay so for our last night we ate elsewhere. I am sure we will be back!
The food was average at best considering the price, as the menu was ‘pub food’ at restaurant prices. I don’t mind spending money for good food but there are many places in Torquay that are far better than the Cary Arms, and it felt like the great location meant they didn’t really have to bother. The staff were lovely and really helpful but the management felt a little out of their depth for such a picturesque venue with a premium price of food and drink. It’s still a great venue for a drink outside due to the stunning view but I certainly won’t be visiting for food again. I’m not sure advertising it as owned by the Desavry family is much of a selling point considering it has barely changed from the old welcoming pub that it used to be. It would be better to focus on the food the menu.…
The Cary Arms, Babbacombe, Devon When the friendly concierge lifted our luggage from the boot for us we knew we were in for a special week. The staff, facilities and location were so stunning to us as we arrived for the fabled First Holiday since the passing of the last 2 years strewn with anxiety, grief and frustration, were so overwhelmingly stunning that I burst into tears. The main building is a cosy pub sitting on the bay populated by seabirds, seals and the local scuba club. After a delicious dinner featuring a great choice of local fish and multiple excellent vegan options, further exploration of the Cary Arms reveals a cosy resident’s lounge, a spotless spa, and our very well-appointed ‘beach hut’ accommodation, which are all welcoming, and deliciously peaceful. We ate our mixture of hearty and healthy breakfasts amongst other guests, though never felt crowded. The afternoons relaxing in the spa were similarly peaceful, since Covid restrictions require pre-booking, and the hosts are able to ensure numbers remain limited at any given time. To work up our appetites we swam from the jetty, and walked sections of the South West Coastal path which are both meters away from the door. We rewarded ourselves for our efforts with more spa sessions. Only the allure of the cocktails on the sunny terraces before dinner could drag us away from the pool with it’s panoramic view of Babbacombe bay over towards Taunton and beyond. Once seated, we were treated to excellent service and a fantastic wine list, again with many vegan choices. Alex and Richard were just two of the whole team who looked after us kindly and professionally. On the final morning I had one more pre-breakfast swim in the bay, before the concierge drove us back to our car, the departure only softened by the vow that we will return again and again to relive one of my favourite holidays ever…
