........but we were somewhat let down. On arrival, we stood for several minutes while the receptionist finished one phone call and picked up another. Check in was eventually completed without too much trouble, we paid for the accommodation, breakfast and dinner for two nights. The whole place is a bit of a maze, so pay attention as to which way you are told to turn when exiting the lift, as there are no signs to help you out. The room: Quite a downhill slope on entering the room, and quite an uphill climb to the opposite corner! Shrivelled up spider on one windowsill (there were three). No double glazing, so quite draughty near the windows. Sofa looked a bit tired and grubby. Strangely positioned dressing table at the far end of the L shaped area - no power point near, so no lamp. No use as a dressing table. Maybe the wardrobe would have been better there. Bed fairly comfortable, though doubtful that the bed linen was 100% cotton. Bathroom floor very up and down and creaky. Felt sorry for anyone in the room beneath. Light over bathroom mirror way too high to be of any use; the shaver socket was part of the light so that was also unusable. One of thse spiral holders for a hairdryer fixed to the wall halfway up the side of the mirror. Really don't know what the point of that was. Tacky little soap dish stuck to wall of shower which was totally inadequate. Dinner menu in the room, so had a good look and chose a couple of options, only to find when we went to dinner that the menu was out of date. The whole room requires a bit more attention to detail. Food: Breakfast perfectly fine, but on the first morning all the juice jugs were empty, and we had to use bowls rather than plates for our toast. The barman had trouble charging our drinks to the room - more about that later. Dinner menu very disappointing. Most unimpressed. We were given some 'complimentary' bread, which we didn't really need as our soup starters came with a bread roll, so on the second night we said we didn't want the bread as we'd rather have the roll. We were given the bread instead of the roll! Mains on both nights weren't at all to our taste, vegetables far too al dente, and fish portions rather small. Altogether, a poor experience. There was an inexplicable discount on the bill on the second night. Checkout: Presented with a bill for double what we expected. I questioned this and then the trouble started. To cut a very long story short, our dinner allowance hadn't been deducted on the second night, which I pointed out so was eventually taken off, but there was still a disputed £30 odd. The receptionist had to call a manager, who found, after extensive searching, that the guy on the first night had managed to charge three lots of extra drinks to our room. The whole lot was sorted out satisfactorily in the end, but took about 25 minutes and resulted in some very fed up looking people waiting to check out after us! In spite of the great location, we won't be returning. …
