Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

My wife and I stayed at The Haytor Hotel for several days in December, being the last guests of the year before Jane and John took a break for a few months. We had a terrific stay and can only mirror what many of the other reviews have covered. The location is spot on, with just a few minutes walk to a variety of restaurants, plenty of onsite parking and the general feel of the hotel is of a good quality. We stayed in room 5, very clean with a nice en suite bathroom. The bed was very comfortable and we slept really well. The breakfast was lovely and cooked to order. Jane and John were extremely welcoming hosts that made you feel at home as soon as you walked through the door. Certainly a recommend from us and we hope to return.

The Best Hotel in our opinion in Torquay. Spotlessly clean throughout. Nothing is too much trouble for John and Jane. Breakfasts are the best we have ever had, especially the poached eggs. Local products. Our 2nd visit and will return as soon as we can. The only slight problem for myself was that the hotel is up a slight hill and due to my breathing problems had to take it really slowly each time on our return going up but this hotel is worth it 100%. The Haytor is perfectly placed near to all the amenities but is on a nice quiet road. Beds very comfortable. Plenty of info in rooms regarding places of interest and local walks.

Superb service, 10/10. Nothing is too much trouble for the lovely couple Jane & John who run this great place. Hotel is decorated to a beautiful standard. Nice bar lounge area. Delightful dining room with a superb choice at breakfast. Fresh fruit with yogurt, followed by scrambled eggs with smoked salmon and toasted bagel was my choice. The scrambled eggs were the best I have ever had, delicious. Decaf coffee served in an individual cafetière was excellent. The full English looked good too. Our bedroom was excellent, again decorated and furnished to an extremely high standard. Bed was super comfy with high quality bedding. En suite with large walk in shower with high end fixtures and fittings. Set in a great location, a short walk down the hill to Torquay harbour with its good selection of bars and restaurants. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Torquay and the Haytor Hotel made it a perfect 3 nights away. Thanks so much.

We stayed for just one night at this wonderful small hotel last week. The hotel is run by couple John and Jane. The location is just up (via quite a steep road) from the centre of Torquay. In over 40 years of travelling, we have stayed at a huge number of hotels and B&Bs but I don't think we have ever enjoyed such a warm welcome. We were invited to sit down in their lounge reception, tea and home made cake offered and served whilst we checked in - given our key and talked through other info we needed to know. The room was spacious, the bathroom as well - all freshly decorated to a very high standard and spotless. Breakfast was all served to our table by John, freshly cooked and including luxury options such as smoked salmon. All in all, a great stay but it was the care and attention to detail from John and Jane that made it so memorable. Would definitely stay again.

Enjoyed a fantastic welcome at the Haytor. It is a beautifully presented small hotel just up the road from the centre of Torquay. The room was clean and comfortable. We easily walked to the centre of town and enjoyed an evening at a local pub. Breakfast was amazing. Would definitely return. Free parking was a bonus.

This is my second stay at the Haytor, it has definitely become my go to place on my visits to Torquay. I travel from Sydney to visit family in the area and was made to feel like a member of another little “family” at the Haytor. I was welcomed back, room ready early for me to check in straight away after my 24 hour journey, the bed was so comfortable and everything spotless, the garden, lounge and grounds are impeccable. Breakfast was served daily with the freshest of local produce and always with a kind word, a welcome joke and the biggest pot of delicious coffee. All dietary requirements were considered and effortlessly catered for. This place is quite special, I loved my morning walks to Meadfoot for a swim and it’s an easy stroll to the heart of Torquay. But what I loved the most was the warm, friendly and kindest of welcomes. I will most definitely be returning.

Another fantastic stay at the Haytor Hotel, my wife and I have just returned from an 11 night stay here, this being our third visit. As usual on arrival had a warm welcome from the owners, Jane and John, and upon checking in had lovely coffee and cake. We enjoyed the fabulous breakfast each morning, cooked to perfection by Jane, and served impeccably by John. Everything is quality local produce, and is one of best we have ever had. Our room was very comfortable with everything you need for an enjoyable stay. We enjoyed sitting in the gardens with a glass of wine, during the nice weather. The hotel is close to the harbour with plenty of bars and restaurants. John and Jane really are an exceptional couple and nothing is too much trouble and you are treated like friends. We would also like to thank the other staff members who looked after us too. We are really looking forward to returning here next year.
