Me and my partner stayed at The Charter house recently for a lovely 2 night stay. This was the first time we’d been to Torquay and i’m so glad we chose this B&B. When we pulled up we were greeted by 2 very friendly cats! Lisa showed us to our room and I couldn’t believe how nice it was. We paid more for a deluxe room and it was so worth it. Massive room and bathroom. The bed was so big too and so so comfy. We both slept really well. Everything is extremely clean too. Lisa is so attentive and nothing too much trouble. Breakfast downstairs feels like you are abroad! The room is light and quaint. You give your breakfast order the night before and it will be served to you at your table. Not before you have been offered toast, cereals and juice! Also lisa keeps your coffee topped up too. The location is ideal as its near the marina and its a really nice walk. Not far from the zoo too which you definitely need to go to, really good day out.…
We stayed as a family of 4 (two teen girls) for three nights and we couldn’t have been any happier. Lisa and Christophe make such a personable and professional team. The ‘service’ (service doesn’t sound like the right word as there was plenty of warmth and charm) was exceptional. Every need catered for. Even those you didn’t know you needed. The rooms are clean, functional and yet homely and relaxing. The breakfast is AMAZING. Honestly the most impressive full English I have ever eaten. And we came home with jars of home made marmalade and jams as we couldn’t get enough of it! Book - you won’t be disappointed!
We stayed in the Superior Room for 3 nights. Lovely room overlooking the gardens & sea view. Very comfortable bed, mini fridge, plenty of tea, coffee & fresh milk, lovely scented toiletries. A brilliant breakfast to see you through the day, I would recommend the smoked salmon & scrambled eggs, oh & the delicious home made jams ! Highly recommend a stay here, Many thanks to Lisa & Christophe
Thoroughly enjoyable four night stay hosted by Lisa and Christophe who were perfect hosts, Excellent breakfast, comfortable accommodation and situated in lovely grounds. We have already booked a further six night break as a result of our recent delightful stay.
This is our fifth visit to The Charterhouse and it won’t be our last. Christophe and Lisa are excellent hosts who enjoy their work: nothing is too much trouble. The rooms are beautiful: spacious, clean and with no expense spared on bed and bath linens. Views from our room were of the sea and garden - we had the double aspect Riviera Room, Room 14, this time. The hotel is close to the sea but away from the hustle and bustle of Torquay - all the adavantages and none of the disadvantages. Cockington Village, nearby, is full of thatchedccottages and the wonderful Cockington Court and Park, with its rose garden and arts Centre. Our nights were silent and restful - what more could we ask for?

Amazing place to stay, we were on the garden room which is stunning! Lisa is lovely, welcomes you with a very warm heart, and can't do enough for you. Breakfast also amazing from Christophe. This place is such a great place to stay, we will be back again in the future. Our room was immaculate! Thank you again Lisa for all your help, we can't wait to visit again!
Warm and friendly welcome from Lisa and Chrostophe as always. Good location with access to all areas of Torbay. Super breakfasts. Room was very clean, comfortable and well appointed. Would certainly recommend.
Fantastic little place. We originally booked the Charterhouse on New Year’s Eve but due to Covid we have to cancel, Charterhouse kindly rescheduled the weekend. We were a little dubious about staying there after reading a few negative comments but The Charterhouse definitely met our expectations. We stayed in room one which was perfect for our needs it is adjoined to the gardenWhich was ideal when we took our pet out to the toilet. Inside room one there are plenty of toiletries available, plenty of tea coffee, bottled water and biscuits, clean white towels, and a large wardrobe and chest of drawers. The room was large enough for our needs. We were also provided with a dog towel that we had forgotten which was absolutely vital as the mud outside is red. This room is next to the kitchen but this did not disturb us at all there was no smell of cooking coming throughThe room and there was little noise. This room is also opposite the small pool which must be lovely during the summer months. It is also a table and chairs outside the room where you can sit and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee. There is a nice garden area to take the dog to do their business. The hotel is fairly quiet and in a perfect spot five minutes from Paignton and five minutes from Torquay. It is situated in a peaceful spot. Could not fault the room at all I’m not quite sure why there have been Negative posts written about this room. The door separating us from the kitchen he is a standard door and very convenient when going for breakfast. Lisa Was very attentive to our needs and very funny. She could not do enough for all the people staying at this B&B. The breakfast was the highlight of the weekend and absolutely superb, you can tell the chef is a professional. There is a large selection to choose from including yoghurt‘s, croissant‘s, cereals and traditional cooked breakfast which was fantastic. Also can I say the juices were refreshing. During our stay we walked up to cockington Country Park and stopped at the Drum innWhich is a fantastic little place which serves food and you were allowed to take your pet. They are very dog friendly and even provide meals for dogs whilst serving very delicious food. We went there on the Saturday and returned on the Sunday As we were so impressed. The Sunday lunch was fantastic. The Charterhouse is in a fantastic location and absolutely ideal particularly if you have a pet. We really cannot fault this place At all and we would definitely rate it very high. We would also recommend it. Thank you Lisa abs Christophe sorry we did not get the chance to say goodbye, but we will return. Lisa and John…
We stayed in a superior room overlooking the beautiful garden & a sea view. The room was spotlessly clean, the hot drink selection excellent with biscuits too. The mini fridge was another bonus. Breakfast was fit for a King- the choice was faultless & the hosts very friendly & accommodating. Central location for touring the local area & a 20min walk into Torquay. Perfect. Would recommend.
