Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Lovely B&B. Spotlessly clean and comfortable. Friendly welcoming hosts. Breakfast was fabulous with local ingredients and home made jams. Gluten free catered for well. Good position for Torquay town and promenade. Will definitely return.

I can only describe The Charterhouse as brilliant and our host Lisa could not have been more welcoming. I suffer with lung issues so she made sure I could park right next to the house. The house itself is beautiful and has a lovely garden that you are welcome to use. The breakfasts here are superb and Lisa was most attentative. Our room had plenty of space with a good en suite. If you had any room needs, topups etc, Lisa made sure it was promptly dealt with. The Charterhouse is situated about 200 yards of the main coast road about halfway between Torquay and Painton and nice and peaceful. We went to Torres Abby, Bygones, Dartmoor and Brixton all within easy reach. Painton beach was good with easy parking. If you want to eat out there are many places to go. All in all we thoroughly enjoyed The Charterhouse and our week long stay.

Stayed in Riviera room which had lovely view to the sea. Comfy bed, a quiet nights sleep, huge bubble bath with relaxing lighting which was great to soak our tired feet after walking and dancing while in Torquay. Great location for both near the lovely Cockington country park and for us, dancing at Livermead cliff. Lisa was very friendly and perfect host. Breakfast was beautifully cooked. Poached eggs were a real treat!

This the 2nd time we have stayed here and we will definitely be returning. The hospitality provided by Lisa and Chistophe is second to none. They are warm and welcoming and nothing is to much trouble. The b&b is very clean with a homely feel. The decor is lovely and suits the rooms. I'd definitely recommend. The breakfast provided is outstanding with a good selection as well as being wonderful quality. The prices are very reasonable especially for what you get and there is free parking on the property. The b&b is in a great location, its far back enough to not get noise from the centre however its very easy to walk to. We will be returning soon!

Quite possibly one of the best places we've ever stayed. This was our first holiday with our 4 year old and safe to say this won't be our last time here! Thankyou to Lisa and Christophe for being so welcoming and for the lovely breakfast! Andrew, Stephanie and Joshua

It was just perfect. Location (sea view within a stone's throw), walking distance from both Paignton and the centre of Torquay, minutes away from Cockington. Residence - beautiful - on site parking with a pool (although a bit too cold to use when we were there), terrace, communal sitting room however we had the top floor which was gorgeous. So clean, comfortable and a home from home. Bedroom, bathroom and sitting room. Very quiet yet close to where we wanted to be Fabulous breakfast Lisa and Christophe, the hosts were lovely. Not over attentive but there if you needed anything - the perfect combination! All in all - we loved it and would 1000% recommend to anybody who wanted a stay in the English Riviera. Thank you :)
