A lovely, luxurious, elegant 1890’s Victorian English Riviera home, perfectly located and setback from busy roads in a beautiful old tree lined avenue. Step out from the door and be strolling through the lovely Torre Abbey Gardens within a minute, and on to the English Riviera Sea front within another five minutes, all of which are a very easy level walk. We are an adults only, lovely, tranquil home in the perfect location whether on holiday or for business travel. Sit on the terrace, relax, and enjoy the afternoon sun with a drink, while watching the world go by or maybe even a cricket match. Only a short 10 minute walk from Torquay Train Station and 6 minutes from the Riviera International Conference Centre. Overlooking a park, our well-appointed en suite rooms are complemented by free on-site parking. Each room has an en suite bathroom with shower, hairdryer and complementary toiletries. There is also a flat-screen smart TV and tea and coffee facilities as well as a fridge. We offer a delicious cooked breakfast with Devon bacon and sausages, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, black pudding as well as smoked salmon with scrambled eggs. Cereals, toast and fruit are joined by fresh coffee, tea and juice. Try our Melba breakfast in a bowl for something healthy. The Riviera has something to satisfy everyone’s desires from the cultural aspect at the Princess theatre to beautiful local walks or rides along the coast. We are also within a 5-minute drive of many of Torquay’s restaurants, such as The Elephant and No 7 Fish Bistro on the harbourside. It’s an 18-minute walk from the Princess Theatre, and Torquay Golf Club is around 10 minutes’ drive. The hosts, Sharon and Mark will do their best to accommodate everything you may require in as homely a manner as possible.

Detailed Reviews
We have just returned from 3 wonderful nights , we were greeted by both Mark & Sharon who made us very welcome from the word go. Our room and en-suite were spotlessly clean, the room had everything we needed including fresh milk in the fridge, we were also had a nightly "treat bag" hung on our door which for a Chocoholic was a dream! Lovely choice for Breakfast, and generous portions all freshly cooked by Mark. Sharon kept us topped up with coffee, tea, juice & toast and was also helpful with ideas of where to visit around the area. Nothing was too much trouble ~ we had a very comprehensive pack in the room with details of attractions, telephone numbers etc. There were sanitizers masks around the hotel, we all wore masks so everyone felt safe.
We will be returning in the very near future and would highly recommend Melba House to couples who enjoy comfort, peace and quiet.
Thank you once again and for our "Treat bag" for our journey home ~ I am now back on the diet

We booked one night away at Melba House for a last minute getaway and couldn’t have had a lovelier time. From the moment we arrived, Sharon and Mark were so warm and welcoming, and it really did feel like a home away from home!
The B&B is located in an ideal location, a short stroll away from the main town and harbour, and with free onsite parking. The house was beautiful inside and out and we were delighted that the classic features remained.
The room was light and spacious, and incredibly clean!! There was a wide selection of refreshments and toiletries in the room and the bed provided a very refreshing night’s sleep.
The breakfast the next morning was home cooked and delicious and Sharon and Mark really catered to our every need! The eggs were so fresh and everything was cooked exactly how each of us liked it - compliments to the chef!
Overall we had such a fantastic experience, the attention to detail and additional gestures such as chocolate bars outside our room when we got back in the evening and the bag of refreshments for our journey home were very much appreciated.
Our only regret was not staying for more than one night, but we will definitely be back!

We (my husband and myself) had a great time at Melba House in Torquay, Sharon and Mark are really the best hosts and nothing is too much trouble for them to make your stay enjoyable! We had room 4, a lovely large room overlooking a park, with all amenities. The room and bathroom (shower) was absolutely spotless and complimentary toiletries. They also have a communal terrace with about four tables and chairs and parasols, lovely to sit and enjoy a glass of wine 🍷😊. The breakfast is fantastic, especially the Melba house fruit special, a fry up if you want it, or omelette or salmon etc, poached eggs are wonderful! There is a refrigerator in every room and an ice machine in the dining room (which my husband LOVED) Sharon also put a little goody bag on every door handle each night with some chocolate in it! They also provided everyone with a bag of things for the journey home. All in all a fantastic place to stay, 10 out of 10 and the most friendly and obliging hosts, well done, Sharon and Mark! 😘

We both had a great stay. The welcome we had from the hosts (Mark and Sharon) was warm and friendly (especially the scones). The breakfasts every day were spot on (the poached eggs were done perfectly). The room was clean and tidy and the little treats on the door were a great and welcome touch after a day out exploring the area. Also, Melba House is in a great location close to the Railway Station and a great base to explore the area as its on the flat so easy to walk into Torquay (or Paignton if you like a walk). Would definitely stay again when we visit Torquay.

We spent a few days in Torquay to explore the lovely coastline in the area. We stayed at Melba House, and felt welcome as soon as we arrived, it was nice having parking on the property. The room was clean and comfortable, the WiFi connection was excellent. Melba House was just a short walk to the beach and Torquay restaurants. Mark and Sharon were excellent hosts, having a good sense of humour and a good idea of the area. There was a good breakfast selection, I enjoyed the Melba Breakfast bowl, followed by Marks perfectly cooked English breakfast with poached eggs and home made bread, my wife had the cheese omelette. The bag with a chocolate on our bedroom door every night, and our goodie bag of treats to eat in the car when we left were nice personalized touches. We will definitely be staying there again, many thanx to Sharon and Mark for ensuring our stay in Torquay was enjoyable.

Right from arriving met with a smile and a warm welcome plus introductions from Mark & Sharon the owners. We were shown our rooms had a giggle with Sharon then given clear and concise instructions on what happens, breakfast times and forms to fill for our breakfast orders, Nothing too difficult for these guys! Great rooms very clean indeed, no need to bring shampoos or shower gels as all is provided!! Great little idea packs left in the bathroom and room for the guests a little bag of chocolates as a welcome gift and much more!! Beds are very comfortable and we’d both had a good nights sleep! Breakfast is freshly cooked, highly recommended the Melba breakfast cereal to start with, the cooked breakfast is plenty enough and I can eat a good amount normally!! Plenty of tea & coffee juices and toast & jams! A great breakfast to start the day with! Mark & Sharon are just the most amazing hosts and hoteliers! Warm welcoming informative and a hugely interesting couple! The guest house is close to the seafront easily accessed a 10/15 min walk to all restaurants and bars. We highly recommend this guesthouse if you are looking for somewhere to holiday or a weekend away!

We stayed at the Melba Hotel for 1 night, as we were seeing show in Torquay.
What ca I say, a very nice and clean hotel, the owners were outstanding. They made us feel extremely welcome as soon as we walked in, and it felt like home from home. After the show we had a couple of drinks then returned to the hotel. What a nice touch, there was a bag on the door handle with a couple of chocolates inside, which the wife loved.
We ordered the breakfast the day of arrival, and a time. We went down and were welcomed very warmly, the breakfast was very nice, perfect cooked poached eggs, bacon sausages beans and grilled tomatoes. As we went to leave we were given a bag with bottles of water and snacks for journey home. We both would like to recommend this hotel to all.

12 night stay as a base for a beach holiday . Spotlessly clean throughout. Sharon & Mark are lovely hosts. Very comfortable rooms with fridge prestocked with complimentary water and milk. Room 3 has good size bathroom with powerful shower and room overlooks the car park and playing field with full size running track. Amazing breakfasts especially Marks cheese omelette. Try the Melba in a bowl for something different. Attention to detail unrivaled...easy order form for room supplies & breakfast orders, torch for walking home at night, chocolate treat surprises on the room handle every night, weather and tide updates every day, good WiFi, free parking, comprehensive guide book in the room and great recommendations for beaches and eateries. Thanks the treat bag for our journey home.

Just had a 3 night break and stayed at Melba House and what a treat it was.
The hosts, Mark and Sharon are fantastic and want to do everything possible to ensure your stay is enjoyable.
The room was well equipped and if I did have any grumbles it would be that the en-suite in Room 2 was “compact” at best with no room for manoeuvre
Wi-Fi was good, bed was good and we had a a little treat of sweets hanging on the door at the end of each day!
Breakfasts were good and again every effort was made by Mark and Sharon to cater for individual tastes and wishes.
I asked, for example, for a stronger coffee, and Leo and behold a stronger coffee was provided courtesy of a previous guest who left some great German coffee.
Can’t recommend highly enough.

We spent three nights here and found it to be one of the best B&B we've been to. Our friendly hosts, Mark & Sharon, were always attentive and happy to help. Nothing was too much trouble for them. The accommodation is exemplary. Bed was so comfortable. The little additional touches, such as the evening treats, made us feel so welcomed and valued. A comprehensive breakfast menu with locally sourced food was expertly cooked and very well presented. Wished we had stayed a couple of extra nights. Ideally located close to the seafront and harbour which is a short, flat stroll through Torre Abbey and the park. A most enjoyable stay. We would return here without any hesitation.
