Cary Court was built over a century ago on part of the Cary Estate. It is a "Plantation" style house, peacefully situated in the leafy Warberries, a quiet conservation area, yet only a few minutes from restaurants, shops, theatre, night life and Marina. Cary Court is a Bed and Breakfast Guest House offering tastefully and comfortably furnished accommodation with a mixture of period and Antique pieces. The bedrooms, some with Four-Poster beds some with King-size beds are all en suite, all have televisions, complimentary beverage trays, hair dryers and free wi-fi. Cary Court is renowned for its "Full English Breakfasts" served in elegant surroundings with views over the Verandah and subtropical garden. There is a heated out door pool ( seasonal - open from the end of May to end of September ) surrounded by south facing gardens and sundecks. There is car parking on site for eight to ten vehicles supplemented by un restricted on street parking.

We stayed in ‘the Link’, the 3 bedroom self catering holiday let at Cary Court. We had a wonderful week in Torquay and the accommodation was top rate.

Our home from home was spotlessly clean and with the new guidance that Linda and Paul have put in place it felt Covid safe.

The highlights for the kids were the WiFi and the pool, which was perfect for water friendly children.

The highlights for the adults was the fully equipped home, with everything we needed for the week. The location is great, in a quite area but only a 10 mins walk down to the harbour - it’s up hill on the way back of course but after lock down we can all do with the exercise ;)

Paul and Linda were great, always around to answer any questions but otherwise they left us to it.

Very nice place - we would certainly return if we come back to Torquay for a holiday.

We had a wonderful stay at Cary Court/The Link.

Linda and Paul are great hosts and their friendliness, attention to detail and local knowledge are second to none.

We stayed in ‘The Link’ for a weeks holiday which is a beautiful Victorian building, perfectly maintained, spacious with three bedrooms and spotlessly clean. The swimming pool is a great addition which my two kids enjoyed no end.

The location is perfect with a short walk downhill into the town and Marina area. The return walk uphill is short but steep, so a taxi back to Cary Court is a good idea after an evening out.

Torquay is a great seaside town with plenty to do for families. We especially liked the nearby Paignton steam train/River Dart boat ride excursion.

As a family holiday let accommodation, we would highly recommend Cary Court.

When you get there you get cookies and scones and the pool is nice and cool and the beds are AMAZING i slept like a baby. The owners are nice and you have your own en-suite bathroom with a shower and a toilet. The owners like to have a chat and there are toys for the kids in the pool. But the screw on the cold tap was loose and we kept on having to put it back on. But other than that it is incredible.

We booked a family holiday in The White House during the school holidays. What a great place! All the mod cons included in the accommodation, lovely spacious bedrooms both with ensuites. We picked a great week for the weather so managed a dip in the pool, which is just lovely. Linda and Paul are very welcoming hosts, nothing is too much trouble. Location is great, nice walk down to the harbour but a tad steep back up, we used the taxis to return, price is approx £5. We had such a great time, we have booked to return next year!

We stayed in The White House at Cary Court and had a great time. Linda and Paul have provided everything you could think of - and more besides. A great location, set in beautiful gardens with a swimming pool and close to local facilities. A short walk to the harbour and town centre, Cary Court is ideal for a holiday in Torquay.

Found The Link at Cary Court by chance whilst looking for somewhere with a pool....what a find!
Couldn't fault anything about the accomodation inside or out. Linda and Paul, the hosts, have literally thought of everything. We were lucky with the weather so made good use of the pool but was a pleasure just to sit in the lovely surrounding gardens. We would definitely visit again and highly recommend anyone to book a stay.
Thanks again Linda and Paul for a wonderful week.

On arrival we were greeted by a gentleman who seemed pleasant at first. Three axes by the door however were somewhat off putting. We had a tour around the hotel which seemed clean and tidy until we walked up the stairs to be greeted by binbags on the landing which in my opinion should be hidden from guests view not thrown all over the landing. After settled in for 10/15 minutes we had a bang bang bang on the door to be greeted again by the gentleman asking questions about the confusion regarding payment for the room. (We thought late rooms took payment before the stay not just card details to reserve the room). Not so long after we recieved a call off the van rental company my boyfriend rents his van off, informing us that the gentleman from the hotel has rang up checking up on us who we are and where were from I presume because there is confusion with payment. In my opinion this is an invasion of personal privacy and quite frankly rude. If they had been professional about it the problem could have been resolved and we would have stayed however we went to stop in a premier in where we werent vetted on arrival.

Dear Casey & Alex, We don't normally respond to reviews but in this instance we felt that we should put forward our side of the story, We read your review with interest & some surprise. Its seems that things went wrong for you from the start . When we received your reservation through Laterooms on Thursday17th April at 22.15 at night for 1 adult it was for that same evening .Somewhat surprised at the lateness of the booking my husband telephoned you to find out what time you would be arriving & you replied that you didn't actually want the room until Sunday. There had been a mistake. We don't normally take 1 night bookings on weekends but my husband agreed to change the booking to accommodate you, indeed the room that had been originally booked was not available so you were offered a four poster bedded room as an alternative, which you accepted. Your estimated time of arrival was mid afternoon but you actually arrived at just after 1.00 with your girlfriend . Our normal time for rooms to be available is 2.00PM ( hence the bin bags on the landing, we were still servicing rooms .The axes by the front door by the way are because we have a log burner in the lounge ). My husband greeted you & had you sign in. When payment was mentioned you said that you had used a friends card details when making the reservation & that Laterooms had already taken payment. My husband advised you that he didn't think that this was the case but checked the details with Laterooms to be sure. You had no telephone number for your friend who had leant you his credit card so we could not contact him to ask permission to use his card remotely . As you had arrived in a hired van my husband telephoned the company to see if the same card had been used for the van hire, working on the basis that if your friend had let you use his card for that as well then he would be more than likely happy for us to take payment from the card. The van hire company said that you were a good customer & had hired vans before from them with no problem. With this glowing testimonial we felt happy to use the said card in payment for your accommodation. To my dismay the card was declined so I came to your room to ask you to come down & go through the various address details that you had supplied as they differed from those on the original Laterooms form & on our own register . I needed your friends post code numbers & house numbers for the credit card machine. You said that you didn't know your friends address & so as you were about to go out you would get cash & pay us that way. You left with your girlfriend only to come back a few hours later with 2 friends remonstrating that you weren't happy that we had been checking up on you so you didn't want to stay here . We let you leave with no hassle & advised that if this situation arose again you should make sure that you had correct addresses & phone numbers. Regrettably, credit card fraud is a very common thing these days & although we have not been affected by it we know other accommodation providers who have, so one can never be too careful. I'm sure that The Premier Inn didn't give you the third degree but then they had no reason to.!! They also probably asked for payment up front and were given it. Shame for all that the same didn't apply here. We did not set out to upset you. You chose to leave . We were just trying to look out for our business .

Our elderly Mum hadn't been on holiday for a few years and we informed Paul and Linda that she would be on the evening train and eventually arrive by taxi, Linda emailed me to say that Paul was going to the station to collect her himself, they looked after her as if it was there own mum, even taking her to the Doctors when she felt unwell, I can't thank them enough, mum extended her stay by another week and nothing was too much trouble, finally driving her down to the railway station with her luggage at the end of her hols, she loved Torquay and the Cary Court Hotel but most of all the kindness shown by Paul and Linda.

This was a brilliant stay - exceeded my expectations - lovely hotel with great owners - the rooms, garden, breakfast, advice etc were all fantastic and I would definitely stay at this hotel again. We had one of the rooms at the front with the shared balcony and it was great. Linda and Paul are very friendly and made us feel at home.

We stayed for a long weekend at Cary Court, a family of four with girlfriend and grandma. The house is a beautiful colonial type house with a fantastic, tropical garden including swimming pool and different areas to sit and relax. The rooms are clean and nicely fitted out. Two of the rooms we stayed in had their own shared balcony at the front of the house with a beautiful view and some sun loungers. The other rooms had nice four poster beds. The hosts were very friendly and helpful. A real find and a wonderful place.

Torquay, Devon24 contributions18 helpful votes
Thank you for your enquiry. Cary Court is situated in Hunsdon Road about a mile from the train station. There are numerous Taxis always available at the station who, for about £6.50, will transfer you from the station to Cary Court. Alternatively, given sufficient notice, we too are happy to come and collect . Please look at our web site and you will see a Google map showing our location. You will also see on our website, an access statement which may be helpful. We look forward to hearing from you soon. Kind regards Paul Garwood.

Cary Court are now offering " The White House " which is in the grounds of the main guest house. I imagine that it may be possible to take children over a certain age group, but it is best to check with the owners. I believe you need to check out of season dates as well.
