From the time we arrived Gary and Philip made us welcome, our room was perfect, clean, beautifully decorated the shower great and the bed very comfortable
The breakfast was a real treat with a good selection of cereals, fruit, yoghurt as well as the house cooked breakfast with tea and an endless supply of coffee included in the room price.
Both of the hosts were friendly and had a good knowledge of things to see and do both in Torquay and the surrounding area which made our visit more enjoyable.
In a good position in the town close to sea front with parking made this a perfect place for us, will return here again for sure.

We arrived on Friday for a weekend in Torquay and met Gary, Philip and their pooches- what a warm welcome!
The hotel is beautiful, every room has the most gorgeous decor, each one different and with its own unique personality.
This is one of the most comfortable and stylish weekend breaks I’ve had, from the wonderful beds, fluffy towels, immaculately clean throughout, and lovely touches like the honesty bar where you’re trusted to plunder an amazing array of drinks and record them for later.
Did I mention the breakfast? The breakfast room, like the bar and sitting room is so pretty- looking out onto the terrace and so elegantly furnished.
From full English, warm toast, fresh pots of tea and unlimited coffee, fruit- you name it, we ordered it!
Thank you so much Gary and Philip for a lovely weekend. Your wonderfully relaxed style of hosting and warm personalities made this a very special visit. I’ll be back!

I had the pleasure of staying with Gary and Philip last week 24th and 25th February and enjoyed every second of my stay, only wishing I could have stayed longer. They are perfect hosts, and were born to be hotel proprietors, being knowledgeable about the local area, as well as providing a beautiful, as well as restful place to stay and an amazing breakfast. They really went above and beyond expectations!
My room on the 2nd floor was beautifully presented, tastefully decorated, perfectly clean and warm, with a super king sized bed which was incredibly comfortable, so much so that I had my best sleep in at least 6 months! The ensuite bathroom was super clean and shiny with a shower above the bath which I could have stayed in all morning. The shower was better than my own at home, and I thought mine to be perfect!
Downstairs there was a sitting room and an extensive "honesty" bar, which next time I will probably use, as well as the dining room where breakfast was served. Here, they both excelled!
Breakfast was pre ordered so I didn't bother looking at the cooked menu, merely asking for scrambled eggs and sausages. I was asked if I could manage 3 sausages and I'm glad I declined as I wouldn't have been able to do it justice as I'd already had a huge bowl of cornflakes brought to the table. Everything was "waiter/ess" served, even the 'continental'. There is no danger of feeling hungry throughout the day after a breakfast at The Torcroft. Servings are plentiful, and delicious!
The true testament of their success lies not with any review, but with the fact that the Torcroft was full in February. I feel that I arrived as a stranger but left as a friend, and I cannot wait to return.

What a stay! We stayed mid August for 2 nights and were in awe. Both Gary and Phillip were welcoming and hospitable. Both funny, chatty and have exceptional knowledge of the local area (which helped us decide and go to the nicer touristy areas). Straight away welcomed although we arrived slightly earlier but was no issue whatsoever. They had plentiful maps and local leaflets for the surrounding areas which made our choices simple and less stressful.
The room was beautifully furnished and from what I hear about the others they must follow a cute / up to date design with stylish furniture. We stayed in room 7 and was so happy with the additions in the room - Walk in shower, big double bed, Tv, drawers if you’re staying for a longer period of time which is helpful! Tea and coffee facilities too. Although both owners are excellent at being attentive for that too and offered us additional amenities if we were missing anything.
The B&B also had a beautiful honesty bar which is a great system in place which instantly creates a trustworthy/ homelike experience (like you’re at your friends house - we love that!). Lovely dogs too which are absolutely gorgeous and so friendly. Always love a friendly hello from dogs anywhere so we were in love there !
It also included breakfast in our stay where there was both warm and cold options which could be changed daily which was a lovely touch. Both exceptional! Loved the eggs Benedict. Nothing was too little to ask for from both the owners and the staff (eg : more coffee or choice of breakfast).
Will recommend to friends and family. Can’t wait to return!

Have just returned from the most gorgeous stay at The Torcroft. Everything from the hosts Gary & Phillip, to the beautiful bar, amazing breakfast, the decor throughout and the handsome house dogs was perfect.

The house is beautiful, huge windows letting in so much light. The elegant bar area with its beautiful panelling and mouldings is the perfect place for a cocktail before and after dinner. There is a honesty bar with a huge selection of spirits to create the perfect drink. We were lucky enough to have a snippet of afternoon sun and so enjoyed a delicious glass of rose on the terrace.

Each of the bedrooms is uniquely decorated with its own personality. I stayed in a cosy, No. 8 which had a stunning leopard design on the wallpaper. The shower was great and the Kitty's Herbery products in the bathroom smelt amazing. Crisp white linen, white fluffy towels and a tray of supplies for your morning cuppa in bed, greet you in the room. Although compact you have every thing you need.

The extensive breakfast was delicious on both mornings. Nothing was too much trouble, unlimited tea and coffee, fresh fruit, the creamiest yogurt with homemade fruit compote and a great selection of hot food.

Gary & Philip are the warmest host and love sharing the history of the house and have lots of tips and recommendations for places to see while you are there.

It really did feel like a home from home but with a little something special.

This B&B is beautiful and highly recommended. Our room was very spacious with a large bathroom, all extremely clean. The whole house is tastefully and extravagantly decorated. There is a bar from which you can help yourself (for a fee). Breakfast is served at the table and is very rich, great choice, everything freshly prepared and really delicious. In front of the house there is parking for guests. The location is great, you just have to go down a mountain and is by the water, from there you can walk to the city center, the port or various sights. The hosts were very accommodating and helpful, we were pampered in every way. On the day of departure we were still allowed to leave our car, also we were offered that we would like to come back in the afternoon to have a drink or visit the bathroom. This house leaves nothing to be desired.

Basically just wow, wow, wow! We booked this hotel on the morning of News Years Eve for a last minute getaway and how lucky were we to find it. Can’t fault it from start to finish. Philip and Gary are amazing hosts and can’t do enough for you. We booked a superior double, which was perfect and like the hotel hotel beautifully decorated. The bar is an honesty bar and we loved being able to go behind the bar and make our own drinks!
The breakfast was cooked perfectly, one of the best poached eggs I have had.
You get a parking space included in the price which is definitely a bonus. Location is great, we walked into town and back and it was no problem at all.
If you get a chance to stay here, grab it.

Just returned from our third stay at the wonderful Torcroft. Gary and Philip are much more than just perfect hosts they have the gift of becoming instant friends for whom nothing is too much trouble. Service with a smile is a given from all of the team.
The whole place is decorated beautifully and always spotless, the rooms are a delight with super-comfortable beds, drenching showers and luxury towels.
The Bar is a treasure in the evenings, offering the opportunity to mingle with other guests or find a quiet corner either inside or out in the lovely/tranquil gardens.
We love the breakfast here from full English to dippy-eggs or Veggie all served beautifully and of course with a smile.
The location is perfect for us just a short walk (albeit on a steep-ish hill) to beach, restaurants and theatre, about which Gary and Philip can offer helpful insights and tips.
We like everything about the Torcroft and we hope to return for many years to come

What a fabulous stay we had at this gorgeous B&B. I went with a group of friends on a girls weekend and couldn't have picked a better place to stay. On arrival we were warmly welcomed by Gary and Philip and felt immediately at home. The B&B is decorated beautifully in very tasteful colors and has a really cosy feel to it. I stayed in one of the smaller rooms (Number 7) and it was perfect! The room was clean with gorgeous wallpaper and fresh crisp bedding. There was a tray set up with a kettle, tea, coffee and hot chocolate which was a really nice touch. The bathroom was lovely and light due to a skylight above and the bed was extremely comfortable.

The B&B has a downstairs lounge area with an Honesty Bar, which is fantastic and there is a really extensive choice of drinks on offer. It was the perfect place to relax and have a drink before we went out in the evening.

The Breakfast was incredible and probably the best breakfast I have ever experienced in a B&B. There was so much choice and everything was perfectly cooked and presented. Nothing was too much trouble when we wanted extra coffee/tea etc. and we were not rushed in any way so felt very relaxed.

I can honestly say that this accommodation made our weekend more special and I can't wait to stay there again in the future. You can tell that Gary and Philip put so much love into running The Torcroft and take pride in giving their guests the best experience. They were incredibly friendly whilst also being non-intrusive to their guests. I honestly can't recommend this place enough so please book and experience for yourselves. Thank you Gary and Phillip for our wonderful stay and I will definitely be back again in the future.

Final note - if you get a chance whilst staying in the area - Coleton Fishacre is well worth a visit which is a National Trust property which was once owned by Rupert and Lady Dorothy D'Oyly Carte (of the D'Oyly Carte Opera Company and Savoy Hotel Group). It's a beautiful house with an Art Deco interior, lovely extensive gardens with views of the sea.
