We booked Ashley Court last minute for one night over the August Bank Holiday. After then reading the many reviews on how dirty & dated this hotel was, we travelled armed with our own sheets & pillow cases, plenty of antibacterial wipes & disinfectant sprays. Upon entering the room we were very pleasantly surprised, we must have had a refurbished room, it had a new carpet, the sheets & pillowcases were clean & fresh and the overall cleanliness of our room was good 👍, yes the hotel is very dated as we still had old & battered furniture & old tassle lampshades also the net on our window was ripped but overall it was clean which we thanked the heavens for!. Negatives - the bed was incredibly uncomfortable so not a lot of sleep was got, the walls are literally paper-thin which we found out at 7am by a lady obviously enjoying herself screaming below us. The breakfast is ok, albiet on the smallest plates I've ever seen but the staff in the restaurant were pleasant & friendly, overall I don't think I'd pay £70 to stay here again but the price had doubled due to the bank Holiday.

Stayed for one Saturday night at the Ashely Court Hotel when visiting friends in Torquay. This very reasonably priced hotel mainly caters for coach parties but offers rooms to others as well. Room was shabby and could do with a refurb. Breakfast was included which was ideal.

Stayed here as part of Caledonian travel, myself and my girlfriend in one room and our family in other rooms. On arriving at the hotel it looked pleasant enough but I wasn’t expecting great things as it was the hotel booked by Caledonian. It is very dated, but other than that no complaints what so ever. The room was massive, with one double bed and a single. Our room had a bath and a shower but unfortunately because the hot water was very up and down we mainly boiled the kettle and had a bath every day. It was manageable.
There was entertainment every night which for 30 year olds probably isn’t the most exciting but it was a good laugh and the bar is cheap cheap ! There is also a games room with two pool tables which came in handy for us every day and you have an outdoor pool as well which was fantastic fun!!
Breakfast and evening meal were included and you have a fairly decent selection of choices, I had the chicken salad most nights and the chicken was amazing! The food overall was really decent.
One complaint. This hotel needs security on a night. One particular night 3 people turned up and managed to blag their way in by saying they had bookings. This was 10:30pm roughly. All three off their faces and one very aggressive female. The bar woman was left to fend for herself arguing with 3 strangers. Luckily they left eventually but the poor bar woman was shaken to bits. Please invest in someone extra on a night to help with this type of situation!
One massive thank you to the woman in the dining room who we only knew as “ the lovely scouser “ unfortunately never got her name. She worked her backside off every single day! So please pass on a huge thank you to her! She was great.

My opinion of this hotel (and I use the word hotel very loosely) started two days before our arrival. Having originally booked online into a different hotel (known in this review as hotel 1)in Torquay we received an email to say that hotel 1 was over booked but not to worry they had booked us into Ashley Court for our stay with complimentary breakfast thrown in for our 4 night stay. I rang Ashley Court to just confirm our booking and was told the manager would ring me back which he did within the hour. The way this so called manager named Steve spoke to me was at best rude and unprofessional, he informed me that he was not going to play "piggy in the middle" between us and hotel 1, because there would be money owing to him from hotel 1 he was only concerned about getting the full amount and nothing else. I rang hotel 1 who's manager sorted this out and rang me back to say that I had in fact spoken to the owner and not the manager which immediately set off alarm bells with me, professionism starts at the top in any business!!

On arrival we were met at reception by the rudest most unhelpful female receptionist, we were not made to feel welcome, we were not given any information at all, she basically filled the forms in and slapped the key down on the desk.

Our room was like something from the 70's (see photos) this hotel has not been updated for decades, the room smelt of damp, the sheets on the bed were to be fair clean but everything in the room was old and scruffy, no quilt only one thin blanket and a bed spread which obviously needed to be washed. The TV was at least 15 years old with 4 channels which were all unwatchable due to the poor quality of the picture. The bathroom like the bedroom had not been updated for years.

Breakfast was very low quality the hash browns looked like they had been boiled rather than oven cooked and all ingredients were the cheapest of the cheap.

To summarize this hotel needs a serious amount of money spent on it and new staff throughout. I did not actually choose to stay at Ashley Court and I can assure you I will not be staying again and I would not personally recommend it to anyone.

Stayed 1 night first impressions dated but for what I paid couldn’t grumble directed to a room as moved through hotel it only got worse dust and grime disgusting.entered room took out phone and tried to find somewhere else to stay nothing local and after a long drive decided to make do dumped bag and went out bought anti bac wipes returned a few hours later took bed spread off and put coat over pillow the bedding to be honest was clean just room felt dirty. Woke up early quick wash teeth brushed and left ASAP did not stay for breakfast or use cups in room for tea. It was cheap I can do dated but do expect some standard of cleanliness especially during a pandemic, don’t normally do reviews but be warned this place is grimey

Hotel was awful. Staff rude. Dirty, dank and as you can see from the pictures not fit to stay in. The picture of the bath mat doesn’t do it justice. It was black and covered in hair along with the rest of the bathroom.
We did complain about the mattresses and pillows which were changed but not with any customer service. We were made to feel very
Awkward about it. To the extent we left the hotel whilst they were changed. No attempt to apologise for anything or offer a free drink in their bar and then told if we didn’t want to stay we would find anything else at short notice.
Had something else been available we would not have stayed, we even debated sleeping in the car!!
The breakfast was crap, mass produced and disgusting if it wasn’t included we wouldn’t of bothered.
The manager was very rude and not at all apologetic. He didn’t care that The rooms were Dirty he was more concerned with the work we had caused for him.
Parking was awful and spent nearly 45minutes waiting for a member of staff to move their car as they had blocked the whole car park in!
0/10 don’t waste your money here.

So pleased we didn't take any notice of the poor reviews.

Went with a large group of friends. Our room was large with a basic but comfortable bed.

Room & bathroom were spotless with ample tea & coffee bags/packs, sugar & milk

Towels & bedding were freshly laundered & beds made up each morning

Good selection of breakfast & evening meals (evening meal changed daily) unlike previous reviewer tea, coffee & meals were hot & served by very pleasant (& helpful) staff

Entertainment was basic but gave a good couple of hours enjoyment.

Don't be put off by negative reviewers (especially if they've only written one or many negative reviews.

This is a TWO star hotel, its not The Ritz but it great value for money especially if you factor in 'The Happy Hour'

Our ONLY complaint (we were there in Oct 2022) & the radiators were on making it very warm throughout (we slept with the windows open)

This "hotel" is a joke. It is worn out, the beds are like boards, the furniture is falling apart, the room we stayed in had extremely springy floorboards, I suspect the carpet was hiding some other problem. The "ample off road parking" claim is a complete lie as there are almost twice the number of rooms than there are car parking spaces, and the car parking spaces are usually not fully utilized as to do so would mean double and treble parking. The Managerial and Reception staff are inconsiderate.
The best part of the experience is found in the form of the catering staff who are lovely.

This outdated hotel is awful. It is like stepping back to 1970's
The breakfast was awful, mass cooked and held for God knows how long
Wish I wasn't staying another night.
The one positive is that all the serving staff were wearing masks and social distancing was maintained

We had a lovely stay at the Ashley Court which is a 5 min walk from Union street, a vibrant shopping area & offers a secure car park. We just needed some place to lay our heads as we had plans during the day. The Hotel itself is a bit dated and basic but once inside the staff are so helpful and friendly. The room has a little telly, a comfy bed and it’s clean and roomy. The food is plentiful and good and If you fancy eating out it’s a short walk to the bustling town restaurants. We weren’t expecting entertainment every night but it was such good fun. If you’re looking for a reasonably priced place to stay Choose the Ashley Court. Very good value for money.
