Staff are friendly and welcoming but we waited almost an hour for 4 sandwiches and mackerel pate and toast. My parents were most disappointed that the paté was laced with green mould!! He replaced it with sliced cheese and no apology! An apology and offer of a refund would have reduced the need for this review. Go for beer, but...

Hello Rebekah, We are really sorry that this incident occurred. We make our own pate and do keep careful checks on all our fresh produce, so it was disappointing and surprising to us that this happened. I have investigated and addressed the situation and done a thorough review of kitchen procedures with the staff to make sure it doesn't occur...

Traditional English pub with great beer and friendly staff. We always try to drop in here for a pint when visiting Totnes. It used to be in the CAMRA guide but that no longer seems to be the case. That said, not all good pubs serving decent beer are in the guide.

Come to Totnes every year and call into this pub for a drink. Good selection of local ales and ciders, friendly staff and locals. Comfy sofa in the window that you will struggle to get out of after a couple of drinks. Worth a visit when in the area.

Popped in for the 'festival' (in reality some beers outside the backdoor of the pub) The only festival part of it was that you got charged six quid for a small bowl of chickpeas and rice - it wouldn't have killed them to dish up a bit of naan for that money. It took AGES to come, but was tasty...

We run two Beer & Cider Festivals each year; one at Easter and the second over the August Bank Holiday weekend - both running from Friday through Monday. We generally have around two dozen real ales and 15 real ciders included in each festival, as well as a music gig on each of the four nights (although the event should...

My wife and I were looking for a light late lunch on the way to our destiny. We found this pub away from the town centre and were provided with just what we wanted. Nice atmosphere and friendly welcome.

We've been a fan of this pub since discovering it a couple of years ago and always make sure we swing by if we're ever in Totnes. We decided to book a night's accommodation there recently and were very impressed. The room (Coach House) was very spacious, clean and comfortable. The breakfast next morning was of a very high standard...

We love Totnes for a night out but unfortunately circumstances dictate that we cannot visit as often as we would like.. This lovely little pub is situated at the top end of Totnes' main street and whenever we have been there the atmosphere has been friendly. The main reason to visit is for the quality of the beer : I...

Great ale. Nice spec. Mixed crowd - bit on the trustafarian and tefl side but bearable. But owners are miserable buggers. Not sure while they are in the business at all. Could be a dream pub as most boozers in the town are drab and/or dead.

It is always worth remembering that owners are just ordinary people who, after working hard to build up a business for 6 or 7 years with little or no time off, occasionally become tired, stressed, sick, etc. Running a busy pub is very taxing and, ironically, the more work that an owner puts in to ensure the pub is running...

Just spent an entire week in Totnes with the good lady, we arrived on bank holiday Saturday, just as the beer festival was in full swing.......WOW. This place sells itself as a small pub with the big garden and what a garden, full of "nice people" having a fun time. Totnes is laid back and this pub was no exeption,...

Very much enjoyed our one night stay at the Bay Horse. Upgraded to the best room/suite for same price as the double we had booked (laundry problems). Suite was spacious, nicely decorated, with a comfortable bed and an en-suite with bath and shower. Tasty cooked breakfast with home made jams. Pub has a relaxed atmosphere with a number of quirky/hippy...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Located at the top end of the historic market town of Totnes, the Bay Horse is a traditional yet cosy establishment offering beautifully conditioned ales, excellent cider, lager and wine, as well as a good quality, locally-sourced lunch menu (served Noon-3:45PM). With a stone floor, fireplace and low beamed ceiling, the main bar brims with character. The adjoining piano lounge is a comfy welcoming area, leading through to a cosy snug bar with leather sofas perfect for enjoying the ample supply of games and books. The real hidden gem is the huge outdoor space were a paved patio leads through to a lovely walled garden.Hosts Rob & Kathy maintain a relaxed, happy atmosphere ensuring a welcoming pub for all, including being both family & dog friendly. In keeping with Totnes’ artistic sensibilities, the pub transforms into the ‘After Eight’ Jazz Club every Sunday evening and other regular music sessions on Monday Night (folk), Wednesday Night (traditional Singing) and Thursday (Eli's Open Session). Another highlight is the pub’s annual beer festivals, with a full Ale & Cider event held in conjunction with the Totnes Festival (August Bank Holiday weekend) and a mini-fest every Easter. The inn offers fine B&B accommodation with two double en-suite rooms, the pick being the spacious coach house suite with its garden outlook and luxurious bathroom. It is an excellent base for exploring the area and Kathy (a qualified tour guide running heritage walks of the town each Thursday morning) can offer plenty of handy information and is available for private bookings. ... more   less
