Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Zero stars unless you class a potential death star. Mould visible throughout and on back of bedside cabinets. Damp smell permeated even the bed once the tiny heater warmed the air. Shower was either scalding or not. No cold water. No reply to reception bell. I provided our own bleach to remove toilet mould. All fixtures and fittings were loose and ill fitting. The bedroom curtain pole had no central fitting and fell off when curtain opened. I was asked if my husband was pissed and pulled it down! "Family" room apparently only booking available. Unless you are "The Tiny Terrors Circus Troupe" Insist on seeing it first and go elsewhere immediately.

I wish I'd checked reviews before booking this hotel. To say I'm disappointed is an understatement. There's no way this is a 2 star hotel, room not very big despite being a 'family' room. Double bed with a very saggy mattress, also a bunk bed in the room. Bathroom was cold as no heating or heated towel rail, had a broken extractor fan so no way of steam escaping from an uncontrollable hot or off shower. Mould visable on tiles & toilet, which we put bleach that we bought that night on to get rid of. Visable mould on walls by the main bed. Bathroom door sticks due to badly fitting frame/door. Room had a small electric radiator which had to be used due to main radiator being stone cold, this did work for about 10 mins the morning after. Trying to pull back the curtains in the morning caused the brakets to come off the wall & the pole landing on my head. When I informed the 'manager' David I got accused of ripping it off the wall. I'm glad breakfast was included as it was so-so. I've had better in local cafes. Parking is 1st come 1st served & £5 a night extra. I do not reccomend this place at all.

Met two young ladies on arrival who were very friendly and nice, but entering our room we was not so happy, 2 star I know but surely the room should be clean...the headboard was disgusting and ripped up...bathroom and radiator filfy, we had a little radiator in room but was freezing, we looked to find someone for another heater but could find no staff...our sleep was not good as so very noisy chatting, doors banging etc...up for breakfast which was all ok, although freezing in dining room...this hotel needs a big referb and clean...

0 -10 didn’t even make a 1 room had no heating was told it comes on in 2 hours but never came on gave us a stupid little oil rad which was no use. Bed was damp cold and full of other peoples hair so had to sleep fully clothed, then to top it off this morning no cold water in the room toile would not fill up and the sink tap was just boiling water so couldn’t wash your teeth face I went to breakfast which was ok ish I asked about the no cold water and was told did I ask David sorry who is David??? I understand it’s a 2 star but if you can’t even get the basics right ie cold water warn room ie heating in the winter and a basic clean room other than hair and dirt on the bed and stuff stuffed behind the draws by the window them this in no way is a 2 star. When you speak with the girls on the reception and they know full well there no heating as if you read all the other comments about the same issue then do not stay at this hotel as you will leave cold dirty and booked from the hot water only room

Visiting the BIC for a concert, the 3 of us wanted somewhere within walking distance and a good nights sleep. The '5 minutes' to BIC is for fit and fast walkers as it took us just under 10 minutes walk (the walk back is up a fairly steep hill). Our room was clean, as was the bathroom. Heated and with a bath towel on each bed. Couple of minor issues, 1 bed was too soft according to my friend and the shower produced not much more than a water trickle. Breakfast (served 9-10am) was either full English or veggie alternative which was nice to see. Choice of 4 cereals but the coffee was much too weak to drink. Could of asked the staff, but they were both busy dashing around. Overall for a 2 star our stay was fine.

Ideal location. We arrived later than planned due to train delays and was let in by another guest. But as soon as we called David ( the owner) he was there. The rooms are very clean we originally had bunk beds but as older ladies and my daughter who had just had a baby was not suitable so David quickly changed our room which we were very happy with! Thank you David! Even put an extra heater in was us and it was a cold night. The next morning we went down for breakfast slightly earlier but the team were amazing 🤩 we had tea and coffee brought to the lounge while breakfast was being cooked. Lovely breakfast eaten by all. So thank you all for a lovely one night stay at your hotel. Will 💯 return.

Original booking was for 8 for the air show. Due to an operation being offered 9 months early, we unfortunately had to cancel and rebooked 3rd-5th november for 2. Well prepared for a 2 star stay. Breakfast staff: very good Room : ok Locked out: awful Card wouldn't work to gain entry after an evening out. No reply to phone or email that was given and no chance to leave a message on the phone. Banging on the door eventually alerted a guest who let us in. Once in tge entrance, we still couldn't get into our room. Rang and texted another mobile number at the desk pinned to the wall. No reply to call or text. Correspondence had been through my phone previously, no reply. My husband rang and got an immediate reply. Nobody on Site and had to come from 20 minutes away. If the kind visitor hadn't of let us in we would off had to sleep in the car or book elsewhere even though already paid for here. Poor attitude of the owner proprietor. Staff lovely.

We arrived for our 2 day stay and were allocated room 2 which is at the rear of hotel on ground floor with a separate entrance. Room smelt damp and looked in need of some tlc..decorating and grubby looking carpet replacing. Had to change quilt cover as dozens of long hairs stuck to it. Had no hot water on second evening and following morning in shower or taps. Discovered cause of damp when it rained and water was dripping through flat roof to windowsill and then trickling down onto carpet. Paint peeling on windowsill indicating this was a long standing problem. I appreciate this is only a 2 star hotel but this stuff is basic. I mentioned these things to a chap I assumed was the owner on checking out.He mentioned something about the boiler serving that room had only just been fitted but no apology received. On the plus side staff were friendly and breakfast was OK. My advice would be to pay more and stay in better hotel...lesson learned on my part.

Our stay at the mount stuart hotel was great, the room was spacious and clean. The staff are lush with a special mention to Donna and Norie who are exceptional at their jobs and very kind. Overall, it was a 4 star experience and I would definitely stay there again.

Very central - rooms were a bit cramped but hotel staff supportive and were able to move us on this occasion. Clean and as expected. Parking is there but it's a bit of a nightmare and like a game of tetris but all very friendly and helpful.
