This is the second time of staying at this hotel we stayed here 2 years ago and couldn’t fault it so decided to stay here again ..the only thing that let it down this time was the room was so hot 🥵 I opened the window as far as it could go I landed up having not a good nights sleep kept waking up and in middle of night turnt the radiator off but it was still so warm in the room yes it’s cold and you want it warm but Jesus over hot no iron or ironing board or fridge in the room so water they leave you is warm by time it’s left in room so didn’t drink I’m sure last time we came we had that but we had bigger room so this is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 this time ..the breakfast is still very good and the staff service were all great and the location of the hotel to town centre is literally less than a 5 minute walk perfect ..

From the moment we arrived, it felt like we had made a great decision to book here for a relaxing night away and we were certainly not disappointed. The gentleman on reception who checked us in, exuded natural warmth and made us feel very welcome. The building itself is so well maintained and our room was so cosy, clean and relaxing. Whilst we didn’t take the opportunity to dine there, I don’t think you’d be disappointed in the food that they serve and it was busy on the night we stayed. We availed ourselves of a lovely nightcap in their bar and again the hostess couldn’t have been more welcoming. The massive super king bed and divine linen meant we slept so well and the fabulous shower was superbly revitalising. As for the breakfast it was divine, I availed myself of poached eggs and salmon with beautifully made hollandaise sauce. The fresh fruit was so welcome as were all the lovely, fresh pastries and again the staff made us feel very welcome and the coffee was a fine brew to set us up for the day. This hotel is a fine gem and deserves to thrive, don’t hesitate and search elsewhere, BOOK IT, you’ll thank me 😉 💕🙏

A charming friend invited us to join her for dinner last evening, she was staying in the hotel overnight. Excellent service, an interesting menu and superb food. The restaurant manager Jacob was very professional and we much enjoyed our evening. We visited several years ago and do not know why we had not returned earlier but shall definitely be back again soon.

What a lovely experience our afternoon tea was at this hotel yesterday! The food was delicious and the savouries served were superb. I loved the fact there weren’t the usual sandwiches and thoroughly enjoyed the mini quiche, French bread and brioche instead. I had a veggie option and loved it! The drinks were served in lovely glasses which made the treat all the more special. Nothing was too much trouble for the delightful staff and I will look to visit again when next in Bournemouth. Thank you all so much!

The Green House did an amazing job this weekend hosting our daughters wedding. The staff could not do enough for us and were faultless throughout the day. The food was also top quality. We can’t recommend them highly enough. Thanks to all the team. 👍🥂

Best breakfast in Bournemouth. Best kept secret in town. I like to keep it that way. I mostly stay at another hotel nearby as I am an elite member of that chain. I have taken to coming to GreenHouse every day for breakfast as it is so superior to any other hotel I stay at. A small selection of very high quality cold cuts and cereals and juices with a daily changing smoothie, is complemented with a wide selection of freshly cooked hot breakfasts, to which the on site chefs are happy to make changes depending on requirements. Breakfast can be served in the Arbor restaurant or in the quieter lounge bar net door, with a great selection of music at a volume that promotes a fine dining breakfast venue. All in all a great start to my day.

This was our second visit to the Green House which had been enjoyable several years ago. We stayed 4 nights. This hotel has a 2 star rosette and the quality of their food and room interior match this. Fresh milk can be picked up at reception in a flask so it stays fresh and we were happy to do this. Breakfasts in particular were very varied. Baths in bedrooms are a special feature in the hotel, although some rooms do also have a separate area for the bath, but we quite liked the oddity of this idea! The staff, in particular those in the restaurant at breakfast, were both helpful and the lead generally recalled what we had from the previous day which gave us a positive feel about the management aspect. Similarly, at the evening meal a different lead maintained this approach, showing a professional interest in what people wanted and recalling what had passed previously. The main receptionist at the desk throughout our stay was helpful, professional and effective. There are however a few things that could be improved. Whilst the hotel had offered to make soda bread as I was allergic to yeast, it was finished by the start of breakfast on the third day. I asked what I was supposed to eat during the rest of the stay, but staff seemed nonplussed. The bread had been absolutely delicious so I was both surprised and frustrated as no-one seemed to know what had happened - the usual lead was not on. This was rectified by the evening meal because the Lead there had picked up on this information during the day. Thank you. However, no explanation was offered and had I not shown my frustration I am not sure whether anything further would have been done. The next issue another resident had also picked up on. This concerns where one eats the evening meal. The set menu was not particularly varied and on 3 nights running the "daily specials" - main and starter - remained unchanged on the board, although on the third night I was told to ignore the board and given an alternative - yet another customer was not, still being offered fish that by now was 3 days old - I am sure still fresh, but hardly a daily special! As a result we asked in the bar if we could have bar food instead - also beautifully cooked. Their response was yes and in addition we were told it would be OK to eat it in the restaurant rather than the bar as I had wanted a pork dish from the restaurant. On ordering this in the restaurant, the response was extremely hostile and we were told this was not up to the usual standard. The waiter spoke very loudly and although in the end we were allowed to eat there after asking for the pork dish, the atmosphere was really strained. My husband had ordered half a lager and we pointed out at the end of the meal this had not been added to the bill. The waiter then said this was on him and we took this as a somewhat belated apology for his previous behaviour and thanked him. This issue was created by poor communication between staff who clearly had different ideas about what could / could not be eaten in the restaurant, but also raised the question about why this was lowering standards of behaviour - not a great thing to be told. In other hotels it has been possible to eat bar food in the same place as restaurant food, so it would be useful to hear why this was not possible - particularly when one of the meals was only offered in the restaurant...? Next, we found out that a service charge had been added to the final bill. We were not aware that this would be added and as I am sure hotels know, it makes it more difficult for a customer to bring up the matter at the end of a stay when they may also be leaving in a rush that morning. If it was going to be added it should have been done at the time as we were asked to sign for what we had consumed after each dinner and equally we were signed in by staff for breakfast each day. There was an opportunity to add a service charge on the daily bills but we had not done this as we had come to the hotel on a package offer. To add the charge to the final bill without comment seems an affront, particularly when to avoid it we would have had to ask the staff to redo the bill. In addition, the lack of Soda bread and the very poor way we were treated on the last night regarding where to eat, would not have merited a service charge - despite the "free" half lager, unaccompanied by any verbal apology. 1 final point - there is a very clear emphasis on cost cutting and portion control to the point where it began to feel uncomfortable e.g. one slice of toast offered at breakfast; one knob of butter offered in one dish; some jugs of milk with tea/ coffee were only half full; 1 jam and 1 marmalade were presented without variation. We were not ever asked if there was anything else we needed. Breakfasts were varied, but if you only wanted toast and marmalade, choices would have been very welcome. The same principle occurred in the bedroom where we were greeted with a list of items we could buy in reception e.g. shampoo/ soap/ bath robes / hangers etc and the soaps and shampoos were tied down in the room so that they were really difficult to use by the sink. Someone with arthritis would not have been able to do so. There were two loose bottles by the bath, but little space to place them by the sink. On departure, my husband was asked if everything had been OK during the stay and he cited the soda bread incident - to which there was no real explanation - but he did not wish to stand reciting the above. The issues had passed but left a negative impression we did not want to revisit at the time. We both understand the catering trade has been very badly hit during and after Covid, but other people's behaviour, whether customer or staff, should not be allowed to impinge on the present when people on holiday need their break too. I hope this comes across as a balanced review which helps others either to choose wisely or to learn from mistakes, so that in the end we return to a more satisfactory way of life.

Response from Neil Carter, General Manager at The Green House
Responded 6 Oct 2023
Dear 108 Bubbles, Thank you for taking the time to leave us your feedback following your recent stay. I am really glad that, on balance, you enjoyed your stay with us, however I do note your comments where there is room for us to improve. Firstly let me say that we have placed a note in your profile about Soda Bread and we will make fresh ready for your arrival when next you stay. I am disappointed to hear that you met with any lack of hospitality during your stay and I will discuss with the team. There should be no reason that we cannot allow guests to eat non-restaurant food in the restaurant, should availability allow. We are very conscious of waste at The Green House and we would rather bring more, than over-produce so that we end up throwing away. I do believe that this absolutely in line with our mission to leave as small an impact on our environment as possible. With regard to gratuity, I fully agree that you should have been given the opportunity to agree (or not) our discretionary service charge at the end of your meals and I will ensure that the team are aware of this. We do thank you for your feedback and your custom and we very much look forward to welcoming you back to The Green House in the very near future. Kindest regards

I stay away quite a lot on business and have generally gone for the bigger corporate hotels, but I saw this hotel had availability, read the reviews and booked it. From the minute I arrived, the receptionist was great, she was very attentive, happy and professional. She explained everything to me and advised I had been upgraded on my room, which was a very lovely surprise. The room was absolutely stunning, a roll top bath in the room, walk in shower and the most luxurious bed, bedding and pillows, I slept so well. I didn't have dinner in the restaurant, I did order from the bar menu, I asked if I could eat in my room, it was no problem at all. The food came promptly and was presented well. I had the rump steak baguette with triple cooked chips, it was delicious. I had eggs royale for breakfast which was really good. There was a good selection of food to chose from, whether that be hot or cold. The hot food is cooked to order. I had an amazing stay, I only wish I would have found this hotel earlier and not have to have stayed in stuffy, corporate hotels, this will definitely be the hotel I stay at when I am in Bournemouth; thank you. x
