Detailed Reviews
The hotel is in a great location, only a few minutes walk from the beach and the main restaurants, shops etc. It has plenty of parking at the rear (£10 per night if you book through Booking.com but is included in the rate if you book direct with the hotel).
The public areas such as reception, the bar and restaurant have been refurbished to a really lovely standard and look very impressive. The outdoor area also looks nice and would be great in the summer (not so inviting on a cold November evening).
All the staff we encountered were excellent - particularly the young guy on the bar each evening and all the restaurant staff. All were helpful and friendly and an absolute credit to the hotel.
Food was really nice with a great choice of breakfast options - everything was served piping hot and a nice (not too big) sized portion; I can recommend the pancakes with streaky bacon and maple syrup. We had dinner there on the first evening and, again, both the service and food were excellent.
The only negative is that we were allocated a small room which was overdue for refurbishment. I have to be honest, the bedroom itself was not too bad - the decor was very neutral with cream walls (which looked recently done), white bedding, light wood furniture so nothing offensive about it (apart from the sliding door wardrobe which was a complete pain to open/close) although the curtains were more of a seaside B&B rather than beach boutique hotel. The bed was a small double but comfortable and we were able to open the window for some fresh air which was a positive as hotels are generally too hot. However, the bathroom had definitely seen better days, particularly the shower which was not that great and the water temperature did fluctuate considerably.
The only criticism I have is that the daily housekeeping service seemed to have been suspended! The other hotels I have stayed in over the summer/during the pandemic have kept a full housekeeping service. Now I am more than happy to make the bed and fold the towels but it would have been nice to have had the tea/coffee etc replenished rather than having to ask Reception each day.
Nonetheless, the disappointment with the room did not detract from the enjoyment of our stay as generally we don't spend all that much time in the room anyway.
Overall an enjoyable stay with excellent staff.

Dear Guest Thank you so much for taking the time to review our hotel. I am delighted to hear that you like the new lounge, bar, restaurant and garden. We have owned the hotel for a couple of years now and are working our way through the building, trying to breath some new life into this much loved Victorian building. We are, as we speak, working our way through the bedrooms taking advantage of the lockdown. The team are also very happy with your lovely comments and hope that we can welcome you back to our hotel again in the future. Best Wishes Michelle Krips Owner All rooms booked direct are guaranteed their own parking space. We have just returned from a five night stay in this lovely hotel. It has changed hands over the past few years but the new owners are gradually bringing everywhere up to a very high standard. It was excellent value, at breakfast there was a great selection of fruit juices, cereals, fruit, yoghurts plus eggs of any discription , as well as haddock with poached egg(s), pancakes with various toppings. The evening meal was also well presented with lots of choice and freshly cooked. The staff very friendly, professional and helpful. The situation of the hotel enables you to travel around easily, the bus stop is just opposite which takes you to Sandbanks or Swanage and a short walk into the town centre means you can catch a bus to almost all the surrounding area. We have stayed here many times and I feel sure we will return again. It ticks all the boxes for us. Yes, there is still more work to be done but this takes time. We would not hesitate in recommending a stay here.

Just returned from a 3 day break at this lovely hotel. The newly refurbished bar & restaurant are gorgeous, obviously a lot of thought went into the sumptuous colours & lay out. Had a super room with a sea view, with everything we needed. Housekeeping was of a very high standard, the room was always serviced very promptly something not always so in some 4 or 5 * hotels!
The staff are a joy, very friendly & efficient. Breakfast and evening dinner was excellent with great choices,& very high quality.
Looking forward to returning. Thank you.

+1
My wife and I booked a one night stay at the Hotel Collingwood. We looked at quite a few of the reviews and all looked promising. We booked the pool the night before travelling which feels odd but due to covid everything is weird at the moment.
As we were early for check in we parked the car and went into Bournemouth for a few hours. Weather was awful. On returning at 3.30pm we checked in at reception ( no temperatures were taken no were there anyone wearing masks ) We were given our key and headed off to our room. On opening the door of our room we were met with a 2 foot pile of rubbish including take away meal containers and general rubbish, dirty, used towels on the radiator, the bed was not in its usual place and the sheets and duvet were filthy, nail clippings and general dirt all over the rooms carpet ( see pics ).
We immediately returned to the reception to report this, clearly the room hadn’t been cleaned prior to check in. The reception staff dealt with this quick and efficiently and we were given another room, no upgrade although a complimentary drink was offered.
We booked to eat in the hotel restaurant on the evening and both the decor, staff and meal were exceptional. My wife had the Lamb and I had the chicken both were very well presented and tasted beautiful. The staff were superb, friendly, professional and very helpful.
Unfortunately things only got worse. The bed in the room was awful, very very hard and extremely uncomfortable my wife didn’t sleep at all the mattress was of very poor quality for £157 per night charged. Perhaps the hotel could invest in some new mattresses. Also the tiles were loose and cracked all over the bathroom especially the bath panel. One tip would also be to put more tea, coffee and milk etc in the room as one of each isn’t very practical.
After having had such a bad nights sleep and contemplating leaving early due to the lack of sleep we ventured down to breakfast. Once again the staff were superb, however the gentleman who beckoned is and showed us to our table was rude and abrupt, not good for front of house which was a shame because all the other members of staff were superb. ( our breakfast was on the morning of the 28th August ).
The breakfast itself was excellent and would recommend the Dorset breakfast.
One small thing was there were no towels at the swimming pool, we used the towels from our room and deposited them in the towel bins in the pool changing rooms, which left us with no towels to use after a shower the next morning.
If all the little issues were resolved we would stay here again.

Stayed here as a last minute getaway with my wife earlier in the week. First impressions were good, public areas well decorated and modern, staff allowed us to park our car mid morning and we spent time on the beach before check in time. Checked in at 245pm (checkin is from 3pm).. Lady approached us from behind the desk, asked us if we were bed and breakfast or room only and then promptly told us the only breakfast slot they have was at 8am or 10am and the only free slot for the pool was at 715pm or 8pm.. We were OK to use it if we went immediately (which we did). Told us where the room was but gave us no other information given such as where the restaurant, pool, bar etc is or WiFi code, etc. Not a great start! Happened to overhear another couple checking in on our way to the pool and the man on the desk offered a full compliment of breakfast times and swim times to them.. Odd. We stayed in room 117, room was blisteringly hot and nothing we could do could cool the room down, fan was on all day and night and window open as well until we checked out. The weather outside was 18 degrees at most so perhaps the heat was caused from the pool area below? Room was OK for the price paid. Some annoyances were that there were only 3 single plug sockets in the whole room, one of which was in use by the tv so charging your electrical items and having the fan on was a real juggle. Pillows were too big hard and uncomfortable, water was red hot, housekeeping team member almost walked in on us at one point as there's no chain or double lock on door. On the plus side.. the staff we met were all very friendly and helpful, hotel is very well situated and only minutes away from the beach, public areas are well decorated, nice and modern (perhaps the rooms need similar treatment?), cleanliness was excellent and covid measures were very good. Breakfast was good (albeit on the smaller side). Nice outdoor seating area at the rear of the hotel. Was ideal for a 1 night stay

Dear Xavier, Thank you for your compliments regarding our team they will be delighted to hear this and that you found the cleanliness excellent and COVID 19 measures good is fantastic. We are providing all guests with a pre arrival email and again upon arrival, due to COVID19 we are keeping as much information in digital format as possible. The time slots are also for distancing and we made you aware of this before your arrival. We also have QR codes everywhere including your room. We are experiencing a heatwave and this is really out of our control, but great to be able to enjoy our beautiful beaches. The building is early Victorian and that is why we love its charm, and we are working our way through the building to add more and more facilities. We hope that you came to stay with us again soon. I just returned from a fabulous 'Covide-secure' stay at the Hotel Collingwood in Bournemouth The hotel was very easy to get to and there is plenty of parking on site, if you book direct it's free! You simply couldn't want for a better location in Bournemouth, it is right by the seafront and very close to the town centre and all the shops, we were able to leave the car at the hotel and walk everywhere. The hotel itself is contemporary and fresh, the check in staff were delightfully friendly and fast. The room itself was very nice, I was pleasantly surprised how new everything was, the bed in particular was very large and comfortable, I woke up feeling so refreshed. Our breakfast was freshly cooked and brought to our table, there were excellent options, it was hard to choose. I absolutely would stay again and would thoroughly recommend to anyone visiting Bournemouth.

Most genuinely welcoming reception when we arrived. Mikaela on reception couldn’t have been nicer. If every hotel I had been to had her on reception i would have been very happy - she’s smiles and genuinely wants to help and gives her time to any questions you may have. She’s a gem. The hotel is spotless. The beach is 2 minutes walk opposite. Parking behind hotel. Staff here are incredible. Everyone smiles, says hello and genuinely takes every opportunity to help. My 15 year old felt very happy here and enjoyed being near the beach so he could go for a run whilst we waited near the peer. Cocktails 2 for one to pass the time!! Came back to the hotel to a delicious 3 course meal. Lovely bar area with a very sweet Barman who nothing is too much trouble to do. At dinner Filtered Water is given to each table which is a very nice touch. I don’t think I could have booked a nicer place. The only downside was our room was a little small for us but it was completely spotless and the tea coffee making facilities were shining like new. Lots of families here but older couples too. If you like walking and sunshine and relaxing and being treated really nicely please come stay at this hotel ..

We needed to stay over in the area for a night and TravelZoo has an offer for The Collingwood. As we were taking our dogs, we had to pay extra for a family room plus an additional dog charge. This was half as much again but we had no real option.
The public areas in the hotel are beautifully presented but our room was fairly dated. However, it was close to the front door to walk the dogs which was great. Just a short walk and we were near the sea and there is a smashing green area to exercise them.
Our room was way too warm, even with the radiator off as we weren’t able to undo the window. The pillows were also like sandbags, not conducive to a good night’s sleep. However the bed was gloriously comfortable.
Dinner was included in our deal and that couldn’t be faulted. Service from Kieran was attentive and efficient with a bit of banter along the way. The evening food was excellent, as was breakfast utterly delicious.
The hotel is very COVID aware with the signs, sanitiser and processes we’ve come to expect these days. We both felt very safe.
Our dogs were made very welcome and accommodated for.
Despite the room, we thought the hotel was excellent and will be taking advantage of TZs offer before it expires.
Highly recommended

Only spent 1 night here, but we were very happy with our stay. Our room was on the top floor and was spacious and clean; internet access from our room was poor but this could be a problem limited to the top floor. All areas of the hotel were clean and there were plenty of choices at breakfast. The pool was smaller than we expected, but numbers using the pool were limited with a booking system in place at reception. Staff were friendly and helpful at all times. The hotel has parking available, which is free if you book the hotel direct; we didn’t book direct with the hotel and paid £10 for a day’s parking. We would stay here again, lots of Covid measures in place which is reassuring.

I gave 2 stars due to a number of reasons. Firstly I will say tho that the staff were very friendly and helpful and couldn’t fault them for a moment.
First impressions were lovely and we were happy. However then we were noticing more and things that quite frankly were sub standard unfortunately.
The room on first glance was lovely, however considering we are still in a pandemic wasn’t cleaned well. We found a lot of dust that showed not been cleaned well then When having a bath (which was also difficult as the water wasn’t that hot at all, we cud run a bath with just the hot tap and also shower with just the hot tap no cold required!!)
I was lying there and noticed all up the tiles were soap scum and blobs of dried on bubbles from previous guests. I didn’t then stay in the bath as it just felt unclean and I was disappointed.
There was green paint on the floor where door had been painted and a big smudge of it accross the tiles too, it looked like my teen had been trying to decorate so lacked any care to detail.
When we arrived to our room we noticed that a room on our landing had its door handle smashed off and on the floor. My partner notified reception of this as it was now open and if was someone’s room was not secure. Yet a
Couple of hours later we came out
To find it still the same so we were amazed that nobody had been up and done something at that point. (I will add it was somewhat fixed when we came back from dinner a couple of hours after - we were just shocked it hadn’t even so much as been cleaned up) .
We did have a tv however how it was positioned you couldn’t have the curtains closed and watch the tv as it all hung in front of it so wasn’t ideal really perhaps this needs to be put
On the wall or something out the way. (Again just a lack of care to detail).
Dinner…. I am by no means a fussy person but sadly I was extremely unimpressed with dinner.
Frozen roast potatoes and clearly frozen veg etc… the beef brisket was dry and wasn’t enjoyable we felt quite let down by this. :(
However the breakfast I have to say was lovely- we have the Dorset full English and that was nice and set us up for the day.
The restaurant and bar were lovely and decorated
Nice. The staff again were fab and helpful.
It was a fab location and our room could just about to see to the se which I love. We had everything we needed In the room and the bed was comfy.
It got very hot at night but there was even a fan in the wardrobe so I soon was able to rectify that.
Sadly due to the few things we didn’t agree with it’s unlikely we would come back to stay,
First impressions were lovely and we were happy.
Yet a

Hi the spa facilities, including the hot tub was included in the price. However, because of COVID the facilities weren't in use. You would need to check with the hotel to see if they have reopened the spa. Hope this helps
