Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had a lovely couple of days at the Cumberland. My wife and I went down for my 70th Birthday. We had an issue with our first room but staff were great and new room was lovely. Staff were friendly and very helpful throughout our stay. We ate in the Mirabelle restaurant the first night and the food was great ate in the Ventana the last night and it was exceptional. It’s our go too Hotel in Bournemouth will certainly go again.

I was the organiser of a Ladies' Festival held at The Cumberland with over 160 people attending. Thanks to Lisa, the Sales Manager, who worked with me throughout to ensure a brilliant weekend was enjoyed by all. All the staff were great and nothing was too much trouble for them. The food was first class too, thanks to the Chef and his team. Cannot fault the hotel or its staff in anyway at all !

Stayed at this hotel on several occasions and always had a good experience Lovely friendly staff. Food was excellent in restaurant. Excellent location to all amenities in both Bournemouth and Boscombe Lounge furniture could be suitable for all ages as it's very low and not at all disabled friendly

Firstly let me say that the international staff were delightful - they just lacked training & direction. I got the feeling that everyone was floundering about in a now sinking ship after a long and illustrious period of sanity. Basically I booked a large room with a large sea facing balcony. I spoke to the night manager before and told him that I needed a disabled space as I am very severely disabled. No problem he assured me they would reserve me a space. When we arrived every parking space was taken including four disabled spaces with no blue badges. When I managed to stumble into reception the day manager said that the offenders said they had left the badges at home. What a load of hogwash! You do Not leave your blue badges at home especially when you are away. We got to the room which was tiny with a miniscule balcony. To be honest by now I was in so much pain I was in no condition to complain. Next morning breakfast was as bad as it gets - the most basic inedible rubbish. Bookers or 3665 basic range and £30 per couple - crazy! I don't mind it being a bit faded glory - in fact I like it. I have given them every chance to speak with me ( 27 telephone calls) promised to ring me back but never did so I have now contacted disability rights, Dorset visitor centre , my lawyer because I was layed up for 7 days with doctor on call every day. We shall see!

We are sorry to hear that on this occasion your stay was not as enjoyable as we hoped. Reading your review, there are some elements of positives, regarding the hotel itself and staff. All staff are trained, and the Cumberland runs very well, so it is frustrating that in your situation it failed. I have done my best to investigate your comments, and I must point out some inaccuracies in your version of events as well as some omissions in your review. There are always two sides to story, so I will illustrate the property's version. Our car park is first come first basis, and unfortunately, like many properties in the area, we do not guarantee a space for each room. The car park is a private car park, and while guests use every possible space, including those prioritised for disabled users and our EVC spaces. We to our utmost to manage spaces, and guests that have highlighted to us that they have used a disabled space, we do tell them that if needed we may request them to move. In your case, when you highlighted to the DM in the evening, he called a guest that was in once of the disables spaces (no blue badge) and the guest was happy to move, as you parked in another space, which really meant a swop of places. You your not happy to move the vehicle, and insisted it was done in the morning. Following morning, you were waiting in the lobby from 6am to move the vehicle, this was not a convenient time. On the DM arrival (start shift at 7:30am), you were disgruntled, and he endeavoured to assist you, but it was a lost cause. Our breakfast is not 'basic range' and also not 'Bookers nor 3663'. We are sorry that our quality did not match your expectation. It is a shame that this negative review was generated, and in my opinion all to do with a car park space, when the team endeavoured to help and had a solution to your problem. At times we can only help those that want to be helped.
