We’ve stayed at the Hermitage many times as it is our go to hotel for my birthday celebration. Sadly this will be our last visit; from issues when ringing up to book to the staffing levels this visit was awful. Our room was adequate for the cost, but the bathroom was not good, rusty fittings and a toilet squashed between the bath and the wall. No cups and spoons are provided, just paper cups and wooden stirring sticks. We initially enquired about dinner when we first arrived but as the menu wasn’t available we said we would book once it was available, which were were told was no problem. On requesting the menu later in the afternoon we were told the restaurant was fully booked as they’d had a sudden rush. That sudden rush was 6 people at the time we wanted to book for. Mind you having experienced the breakfast it may have been a blessing in disguise. The lack of staff meant it was difficult, if not impossible, to get a drink in the bar. In addition your room is not cleaned unless you request it; a fact that was not communicated to guests when they check in. I understand COVID times having travelled when permitted, but this excuse wore very thin when used here.

Dear Vivien, I am really sorry that you did not enjoy your stay with us this time. We are still operating in very challenging times with Covid still with is and as we always put guest safety first, we will continue you to use paper cups as bedroom cups cannot be sanitised to the same exacting standards as Restaurant/kitchen cups. It sounds like you were not explained several things on check in so for that I apologise and will discuss with the team. As the business is always quiet in early January, there are days when it makes no business sense to fire up two commercial kitchens and operate two teams of staff, so we choose to operate our superb Neo Restaurant only on very quiet days. With reference to you dislike of your room, we would have happily accommodated you on a more suitable room had you asked. It is impossible to put this right after you have departed. Kind regards Patricia Green Group Operations Director

Had a lovely time in Bournemouth and the hotel room was very clean and very impressed with the staff. Miguel was friendly and gave us recommendations of good bars such as Chaplins which had live music and he recommended other places to visit. This made the whole experience more enjoyable and I would come back to Bournemouth in the future :)
