Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Our stay at The Royal Exeter hotel was amazing. From warm, friendly and helpful staff, the stylish 1812 bar was perfect for celebratory cocktails and the restaurant offered high quality food which was delicious. We had three rooms which were all very clean with lovely toiletries and good quality towels. The full English breakfast was well presented and tasted good. The hotel staff went above and beyond to make our family stay really memorable. One guest managed to leave some earrings behind in one of the rooms and we received a phone call the day after checkout to arrange their return. It is a pleasure to stay in a hotel with honest and trusted staff.

Really enjoyed my stay which exceeded my expectations. The welcome was friendly and efficient. The room was very clean and well appointed, some might say that the décor is a little dated though. Location is excellent for the conference centre, close to the town centre and the beach, a bus or taxi ride from the railway station. Highly recommended and will be back

Review of Royal Exeter Hotel: My recent stay at the Royal Exeter Hotel was nothing short of a nightmare. It was the first time in my life that I encountered such a terrible and unsafe hotel experience. Our troubles began upon our arrival on a Saturday when we discovered that the room initially reserved for us was already occupied by someone else. The process of arranging new accommodations and moving to a different room was painfully slow and inconvenient. To make matters worse, the cleanliness of the room left much to be desired. Despite our exhaustion from a long journey, we refrained from complaining about these initial setbacks. However, our evening took a terrifying turn when a violent altercation erupted in the nightclub adjacent to the hotel. The ensuing fight resulted in the shattering of hotel windows, sending glass shards flying dangerously close to us. My wife was understandably horrified and left in tears. When we attempted to address this alarming situation, the hotel's security guards responded with rudeness and intimidation, leaving us feeling even more unsafe. To our dismay, when we sought assistance from the hotel night manager, we were informed that he was nowhere to be found on the premises, leaving us to deal with our distress on our own. Our stay ended on an equally disappointing note, with the hotel staff offering nothing more than a cursory apology before ushering us out the door the next day. In light of our harrowing experience, I strongly caution anyone considering a stay at the Royal Exeter Hotel to think twice. It is my sincere hope that no one else has to endure a similarly dreadful ordeal while staying at this establishment. I implore the hotel management to take immediate steps to address these serious issues and ensure the safety and comfort of their guests in the future.

Just returned from another stay at the Royal Exeter Hotel. I can't speak more highly of this hotel. It's an extremely well run hotel, the staff are all amazing, they are friendly, welcoming, helpful and efficient. My room was comfortable and clean as always, I've been lucky enough to stay in the same room for the last few years. The food in the restaurant, Oshii is amazing, the service is excellent. The 1812 bar is great, the atmosphere is amazing. I've already booked for next year, I can't wait to go back. Once again, thank you to everyone at the Royal Exeter hotel, see you next year.

We stayed on a business trip on a Saturday night, Due to the hotels nightclub that we were not warned about playing extremely loud music until 5am we didn’t sleep a wink, we are both light sleepers and now both feel absolutely terrible with a 5 hour drive ahead of us to our next destination.

We stayed for 1 night, the hotel is in need of some updating. The room was ok, pillows were not to good, they need renewing. The cleaners need to be cleaning dust and dirt from skirting boards and carpets in the corners. The carpet in our room had a lump in the middle which was a trip hazard, it needs to be fitted properly. The toilet could only be flushed once, so if a second person wanted to go straight after you had to wait for the cistern to refill. We knew there was a nightclub attached so was prepared for that, we weren't prepared for the fire alarm going 3 times in the night and having to get up and dressed to go and see if we needed to evacuate. We had no explanation or apology for this when we left in the morning. Staff when we checked in were very friendly and helpful though. Was ok for a night but we wouldn't stay again.

This was my first visit o this hotel and will now give you an honest review. Check in 5/5 The check in was completed within a minute then you were directed to the lifts to help you take your suitcase with you to the room as their is no porter service at this hotel but receptionist will help if required. Cleanliness 5/5 Your rooms were cleaned on a daily basis to a very high standard and also your coffee facilities are filled daily if required. Rooms 4/5 The rooms are spacious. The rooms are little dated and could due with redecorating as they are starting to look tied. Breakfast 5/5 I took the bed and breakfast option and can say I was not disappointed there was fruit juice, cereals, fruit and pastries for you to help yourself. Then they come to the table to take your hotel meal. I can say it is the best full English Breakfast I have had. if you choose room only and decide you want breakfast it is £13 Location 5/5 You are only 2 minutes walk to Bournemouth Pier and the hotel is directly opposite the Bournemouth International Centre and only a 5 mins walk from Bournemouth town centre. The only negative you must be aware of their is a nightclub which is attached to the hotel which is open till 5am on a Friday and Saturday and also Sunday in a bank holiday weekend so if you are directly over the night club you won't get much sleep. Would I stay here again Yes

Three night stay, 16-19 Aug 23, single room 303. Surprisingly fabulous. The building is old but is beautiful and all common areas and my room were immaculately clean including windowsills, top of doors and wardrobes, little corners, just everything. Lovely white sheets and fluffy white towels. Lots of pillows. Included an ironing board and iron, and a nice big desk fan. Lots of storage. I was warned about the possibility of loud music on the Friday but didn't hear a thing in my room. If you are looking for ultra modern you won't find it here. It's old fashioned and quirky, has some wonky floors and uneven stairs and did I mention how clean it is? Only a couple of minor negative points. Remember to put out your "Do not disturb" if you don't want room service knocking on your door at 9am. The shower was over the bath with no grab bars and as I do have some minor mobility issues this was a bit of a challenge for me. Not a major issue and I didn't check before I booked to be honest. My issues are newly diagnosed so I didn't even think of it. Staff were cheerful and helpful. All in all very nice place to stay 10 minute walk to beach.
