The Orchid Hotel garners praise for its prime location close to the beach and shopping, with many guests admiring its modern amenities and cleanliness. However, some guests have called out issues such as parking fees and inconsistent maintenance in rooms. While the rooms are seen as contemporary and pristine, noise and size have been points of contention. The value proposition is debated; some reviewers find the hotel overpriced, pointing to hidden fees and services not meeting expectations. The service and atmosphere receive mixed feedback, with the ambiance being appreciated yet sometimes lacking in communal spaces.

My wife and me went for our 33 years Wedding Anniversary over night Saturday 10 August 2024. I asked for flower wine and balloons to be in the room which was done lovely. Also rooms were spacious and staff really friendly Specially thank you to Vicky who went the extra mile to accommodate all our needs. This location is fantastic for beach restaurants and parking Beach and restaurants within 10 min walk. Also when you book direct you do not pay parking. Breakfast was great with lots variety Would highly recommended this hotel

Without exception the staff were excellent, Vicki in particular is a real asset to the hotel. On check in we were disappointed in the offered room (300), uninspiring with a view of a 6 foot fence right outside the window. Would be OK for a one night business trip stop over but not a 3 day leisure stay. Vicki found us room 303 which was better, a tiny bathroom but an excellent shower. There were no pillow cases on the pillows on arrival which Vicci sorted out. During our stay we discovered the kettle lid broken off and the coffee maker simply did not work, the window's horizontal blinds were covered in dust. Why in a double room is there only one sitting chair (the second is a dining/office chair) and just one toothmug? The clothes hanging and drawer space is small for 2 people. Having stayed here before we know the rooms were renovated around 2017 but 5 years later they are now looking tired again. We knew that rooms would only be serviced every 2 to 3 days which we understand but a system to clear guests rubbish and re-provision soap etc would be useful.
The hotel promotes itself as a wedding/prom/party venue which is great but be aware if you have a room overlooking the courtyard as celebrations are allowed there until 10.30pm and noise is inevitable.
The only food we had was breakfast which was excellent offering a nice choice of dishes.
The location is good and with some TLC the hotel has a lot to offer but it's really 3 star not 4.

We booked a 2 course meal with Wowcher for £36 as we had been recommended by a friend who went in May and had an excellent meal. We went last night and were very disappointed. We entered the hotel, went to the bar and ordered a couple of drinks. We asked to see the wine list. We were told there wasn't one but they could tell us which wines they had. I didn't feel comfortable asking the prices of the various wines but have been caught out before elsewhere. However, we chose the type of wine we preferred, Pinot Grigio, and the barman gave us the prices of each of the 3 choices. We were given menus and there the disappointment kicked in. There was a choice of 3 starters, 4 mains and 3 deserts. The mains were a Hamburger, a Chicken breast in red wine, Fish and chips or a Veggie pasta option - hardly the 'fine dining" as had been advertised and which we had paid for.

We only saw 2 staff all evening - the Receptionist who was extremely nice and helpful and the Barman / Waiter who had to keep running between the bar and the restaurant to serve the customers. Bearing in mind this is a 31 bedroom hotel there were very few customers around all evening, only 8 in the restaurant between 7 - 9pm, which was quite sad as the decor is good and the location of the hotel is excellent being near amenities, the beach etc.

In fairness to the Hotel we were not charged for the bottle of wine we ordered as they realised how disappointed we were in the dining experience.

Apparently the hotel is in Receivership and the staff seemed not to know what was happening which was a shame as the hotel has great potential under good management / ownership.

We stayed at the Orchid Hotel back in 2021 and had a really lovely stay, hence why we rebooked for our latest trip to Bournemouth. We were both really looking forward to it as it would be our last get away before we welcome our baby. The price to stay here wasn’t cheap but due to my partner being a teacher this was the only time we could come - so higher prices were to be expected. On top of hotel prices you now have to pay £10 per night to park and you’re not even guaranteed a space 😬

The receptionist that checked us in was unbelievably rude and looking at other reviews we aren’t the only ones that think that. She has absolutely no customer service skills whatsoever. It wasn’t just on check in that she was rude, she was rude and unfriendly throughout our whole stay. When we went to check out she stormed off in a huff and forced her colleague to deal with us because she couldn’t find us on the system (or something along those lines) even her colleague was apologetic for how she spoke and dealt with us.

Breakfast was nice - nothing special.

Our room could have done with a deep clean as it was a bit grubby in some places. However, they did move us rooms due to the TV not working.

Unfortunately, we won’t be returning back to the Orchid Hotel and definitely wouldn’t recommend it. I think they need to re train their staff and give the hotel a little TLC.

It wasn’t after we paid for the room, we were told about a ten pound charge for the use of their car park. Wanted a £50 security deposit but then said that it could take up to 7-14 business days to return it to my account, I upgraded my room for a king size bed although the room was pleasant enough, it was a very basic room, situated on the first floor, and a long winded route to get there, the lift was out of order although my husband is a very fit 81 year old there was no offer of assistance with our luggage, due to the inconvenience.
there was a large stain on the carpet. No bottled water very limited bathroom toiletries. The food was a total fiasco and the bar charges were very much overpriced. A very disappointing stay should have gone to a Premier Inn !!!

I booked via Expedia a king room for 2 adults and 1 child, which is advertised on Expedia as possible to accommodate this many people with a roll away bed, which is at an extra charge on the rate. After check in and going to the room, there is no bed for my child in the room. I immediately notified reception who told me that Expedia don’t tell them how many people are in the room and they would need to contact a manager and would sort something when we came back to the hotel later.
At 9pm I return, and the bed brought to the room was absolutely appalling, I wouldn’t have let a dog sleep on it. It was dangerous, the legs did not work and it collapsed when my partner laid on it, the mattress stunk and was awful, and it was brought with a sheet and a pillow, no duvet. Since the receptionist had been next to useless and it was nearly 10pm and I had a tired 3 year old at this point I put it outside the room and my child had to sleep in with us.
I was later informed by my parents in law who were in the bar area, when the receptionist came down they overheard him say to someone “well they didn’t complain”, clearly in view of knowing how awful the bed just provided was.
In the morning I asked for a manager who once again wasn’t available, they didn’t start until 11 on a Saturday on probably one of the busiest weekends of the year (Management when are you available at this hotel?!); so I explained my complaint to reception who told me the booking showed it was for 2 adults and 1 child, contrary to what the receptionist at check in had said; and then proceeded to tell me over and over that it was my responsibility to contact them and tell them how many people I had booked the room for and ensure the bed was provided, and that I should have told them the night before of my complaint.
I profusely refute that I need to contact a hotel to confirm all beds that I have booked are provided, and beside this, a bed was provided that was entirely unfit for human use. I asked to be refunded the additional charge I had paid for the rollaway bed, which reception said they could not do, in which case I asked for a gesture of breakfast to which I was told no because I had an attitude.
I have never experienced such terrible service and attitude towards paying guests at a hotel.
Avoid this hell hole at all costs, short staffed, who don’t know what they’re doing, no management running anything, and no idea of customer service.

On arrival we were a bit early and was quite impressed that we could leave the car at the hotel before check in.

It looks nice from the front and in walking in I was happy enough with the decor of the reception and bar.

We had booked 2 "Executive King" rooms for my family birthday celebrations, which firstly I was dissapointed when entering the room as they didn't look like the ones they had up on their website. Very basic looking.
That was not the full problem - it was unclean and very grubby.
The other room was just the same.

Also they had a wedding function on so we couldn't use the courtyard to have a drink whilst waiting for one of our party to have a sleep.
It was 30 degrees outside, so I asked if they had another space outside to take our drink, which was a No.. Not even a 'sorry, No'

We asked if we could have a table for the evening but was told that we could but would advise us to do it for before 7pm as the chef would be busy with the wedding bbq.
We ate elsewhere.
We did have breakfast there and actually it was very pleasant!

I'm absolutely fuming as I booked it through BOOKING.COM who emailed asking for a review, which I expressed our dissapointments. They said they'd submitted my review but after trying to find the review and others also looking I've realised it seems that they seem to filter out the reviews that don't seem so good!

I think we would have definitely had a cleaner experience at a cheaper place like a premier inn but as it was a birthday present we wanted somewhere a bit more special.

When we expressed our disappointment to the hotel in the morning we were told that we should have let them know the day before so they could get the cleaners back in - seriously you'll see by the pictures it's not just a clean it needs!
The comment from the staff where she said "you wouldn't have a meal somewhere and then moan the next day" I found kind of rude especially as they were busy with the wedding.
At the end of the day I shouldn't have to point out simple housekeeping maintenance errors!

Thank you for your review of the orchid Im sorry to hear of the issues you have mentioned. As with all hotels I’m afraid of course we do have some wear and marks from a very busy summer. And the ones mentioned are very minor in areas. We do have a maintaince team who are onsite daily to do the snags My cleaners are always cleaning to a high standard and you mentioned nothing at all about this during your stay The courtyard and dinner issue is not correct however If a function is on it makes no difference it is there for guests to enjoy. And dinner times will of Course be modified to make sure that there is no wait time for non function guests. This is normally just a small change we send emails out about in advance so we do all we can to keep guests informed

Great hotel with professional freindly staff headed up by the excellent manager Natalie. The deluxe room was very nice with a comfortable king size bed and large ensuite including a large walk in shower, seperate large freestanding bath and his and her sinks. The room was nice and quiet overnight with all the windows open. We really enjoyed our stay in this very comfortable and relaxing hotel with a pleasant dining area for breakfast and a nice bar lounge area.

We stayed overnight for our anniversary, hotel is in a great location for the beach and town, shopping and bars, unfortunately the night we stayed the restaurant was closed, we were disappointed as we'd read the reviews and were looking forward to trying the food. Prior warning would have been nice, text or email just so we were aware before we arrived but not a huge problem, as a member of staff recommended Funki Gorillas, and the food there is superb. Onsite free parking is a bonus in Bournemouth, reasonable room for the price paid, friendly staff, effortless check in and out, would stay again
