Good location. We were greeted by poo in the toilet. Absolutely filthy and tiny bathroom. The room looked like a child's bedroom, the beddings had bubbles and was itchy, no sheet under the duvet. Scruffy and dirty looking landlord. If we found another accommodation we would have moved the first night

Response from Kat Avery, Owner at Lea Hurst B & B

We get the feeling that you are a very uptight woman and we feel sorry for your poor, suffering husband that has to put up with you. This is the first bad review ever that the room you stayed in has ever got. It is freshly decorated with a London pattern and furnished with London memorabilia. Nothing you have commented on has ever been mentioned by literally hundreds of other guests. If I looked `scruffy and dirty looking` it`s because i am constantly repairing, redecorating and making better our lovely B&B. Sometimes I have to answer the door as my wife isn`t always available. Is that OK? We were expecting this review as you were unappreciative of us full-filling your breakfast requests and had an air of coldness about you that reminded us of the White Witch in The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. If you want better accommodation then don`t just book the cheapest place that you see on Booking.com and expect boutique cos you won`t get it.

Hosts were fine but wish we had known that there were several long term guests in situ. Lots of cigarette butts outside front door and a woman there in a dressing gowns smoking was not what we anticipated and we left early as a result (no refund obviously)

Response from Kat Avery, Owner at Lea Hurst B & B
Responded 7 Jul 2023
Hi there, thanks for your review. We were VERY impressed by your Hyacinth Bucket impression from Keeping Up Appearances when you spoke to us regarding your concerns for our B&B. We think you got a real kick out of talking down your nose to us. It gave us a good chuckle after you left. I only have one family in at the moment who were looking at being re-housed through the local council, so I would hardly call us a temporary housing accommodation. The family has now moved on into their happy home. They were only here for two nights. I can only apologise about the cigarette butts, it's been incredibly busy here and I only had time yesterday to clear the foyer area. We are fully booked every day so I can only apologise for this. I think we are going to have to re-paint the bannister as we are cleaning it every day! The real reason you didn't feel comfortable was due to us having families with children in, all done through the booking agent. We clearly state we are family friendly, we have two small children ourselves. You said you didn't realise that there would be children be here! A couple of children ran by you on the stairs and this displeased you. I can only suggest that you should book an 'adults only' establishment next time. It's always best to read what we are all about in the fine print, or even call us. We have had several happy customers who have raised no issues, they stayed when you were here and all said they had a great stay. I can only perceive that your low score is due to your own personal preferences. Such a shame that you didn't read that we are family friendly here. The 3 is a bit harsh don;t you think? You were in our best deluxe double room, with all the mod cons. You had a quiet stay here, free parking, wi-fi included and a very tasty breakfast, which you said you really enjoyed, all at a great price. We are very aware we won't please everyone that walks through the door. Sadly you were one of those people. Perhaps next time I suggest you read what establishment you have booked next time. Unfortunately I can't really do anything about a guest who has booked for two nights under the booking agent wearing a dressing gown. Guests do smoke outside and that is the law.

I love this place! Not just because of its proximity to town, the beach and the gardens or its home from home feel but also because the hosts couldn't do any more to make you feel welcome and special.

Was made to feel very welcome by the owners, great hosts! B&B was in a great location for local transport and only a 10 to 15 minute walk to the beach. The room and en-suite was absolutely spotless, there was a DVD player in my room with a selection of DVDs out in the hall and my room also had a small mini fridge which came in handy. Was very quiet despite being in a busy part of Bournemouth so I had a good night's sleep for the 3 nights I stayed. The cooked breakfast was nice and quickly served with a selection of cereal and yoghurt. Nice little B&B, would definitely return!

I would rate this as a traditional B&B and the breakfast was perfect for me. As a pensioner I used the local bus services to get around the area. There is parking for 4 cars on the front of the building and I was able to park there for the duration of my stay.

Me, my wife and two other couples booked to stay here in 3 separate double rooms for 2 nights as we were in the area to take part in the scattering of a friends ashes. We researched a number of hotels in the area but some of the prices they were asking were extortionate so we decided to give the Lea Hurst B & B a try. It is in a good location, close to the railway and bus station and about 15 minutes walk to Bournemouth centre. We all managed to park our cars in the property parking spaces but there are no parking restrictions in the street so could have parked there if necessary. The hosts were friendly and helpful. Rooms were clean, comfortable, well equipped and a good size. The breakfast was very good with plenty of food. One of our couples wanted to stay an extra night and the hosts were able to accommodate this request. Two of our rooms were on 2nd floor and the other on 1st floor. This wasn't a problem for us but could be for anybody who might struggle with stairs. There was a good selection of books and dvd's although we didn't spend enough time in the rooms to make use of these. There is access to further tea, coffee and biscuits on the first floor landing should you run out in your room. I would definitely stay here again and in fact we have already talked about going back with more friends.…
