This hotel is a typical old seaside hotel probably dating back to the 1950’s and is used by Shearings for its tours to Bournemouth. Most of the guests were senior citizens on weekend trips.
The location was a few hundred yards from the sea front (East Cliff).
The management have tried hard to modernise but it still seems dated.
The rooms were an acceptable standard for a short stay, carpets throughout the hotel seemed newish and clean.
The free Wi-Fi throughout the hotel worked well.
This is a 4 floor building and one problem was that there's a single lift that held only 2 people with no room for a suitcase, the hotel porter delivered our case to our room.
We were on a half board basis, Breakfast was buffet style with a selection of cold and hot foods. The English breakfast selection was fine and of good quality. The evening meal was waitress served with a choice of 3 items for starters, mains and deserts. The meat dishes were good but portion size of the sides dishes (vegetables) was very small.
Tea and Coffee to follow your meal is extra.
Evening entertainment was provided Friday and Saturday nights with outside entertainers preforming tribute shows to Lionel Richie and Diana Ross both were very good.
I suppose we can't complain too much the price paid was good value for money.

We booked this for the weekend for a girls weekend away. On arrival the hotel was very welcoming & we stayed in a premium room which was very nice.

All was looking good untl we arrived for Dinner !! The staff were very pleasant but we were very rushed & the food was awful. I had Fish & Chips with mushy Peas. The fish was small & burnt to a crisp, the chips were like a small portion of Macdonalds fries just thrown on the plate, no mushy peas. We asked where the peas were to be told they had ran out. Pudding was Ok . The meal on the 2nd evening was slightly better alhough the Garlic Mushrooms didnt even look like a mushroom & were over cooked. Over all disappointing the presentation, quality & portion size. I feel if your going to offer Dinner Bed & Breakfast deals but going to go CHEAP on the food then dont bother to offer Dinner as guests will not return. Another irritation was when we went to purchase the tickets for the bingo we were not allowed to purchase the tickets until 20.15. I asked why & the lady said because we like people to finish their meals & coffee in the dining room so they dont spill anything over the tickets. I said we have finished our evening meal & dont currenlty have any coffee to spill ! I then stood there for 15 minutes at reception whilst she sat there not doing anything until 20.15 before she would serve me the tickets. How irritating & pathetic who ever made that silly rule up !!

Overall opinion - Pleasant Hotel, Nice Room, Dreadful Food & anyone with a good appetite will need to go to the chip shop after as they will still be hungry!

Arrived here on Friday for weekend Tribute Act bands.
Dinner served 6.30 to 7.30pm, we were unable to be seated until 7.20pm as there were problems with car which meant late arrival.
Staff not at all happy that we arrived towards the end of the sitting. Waitress very stressed and obviously felt that we had to be rushed through courses as fast as possible. Fish and chips and peas ordered by 3 members of our party, no peas on plates, as they had run out apparently, small burnt pieces of fish, not proper fish but cheap frozen portions in batter.
Rest of food at best mediocre.
After being rushed through our meal, we discovered that there was Bingo before the Tribute Act. We asked Erika (in charge of sales) if we could buy tickets, told it was too late, but could buy them at 8pm the following night for that night's Bingo.
Duly arrived at Reception at 8pm to ask Erika of we could purchase our tickets, only to be told that we would have to wait until 8.15pm as they didn't want anyone to spill coffee on their tickets!! I do believe we were all adults there! She just looked at her mobile phone until 8.15 arrived and then had a long queue to deal with.
Breakfasts were OK, although food not particularly warm. However, as with dinner the staff hurry you along as fast as possible, certainly not relaxing. It's almost as though they are worried if they do not "get rid" of their guests asap they will be in trouble.
Enjoyed the entertainment very much, but the idea of a minibreak is to relax from the day to day of stressful lives, not be made to feel we are an inconvenience by our very presence.

I'm not quite sure how to start this review. The pictures at the top shall we say doesn't really tell the story of what this hotel is really like. Sadly it is looking somewhat shabby both inside and out and could do with a thorough modernisation. We arrived on Friday afternoon along with 10 other friends. Our room on the second floor was shabby with torn net curtains, tired wallpaper, creaky floorboards, on the plus side it was warm, clean and the bed was very comfortable. However the shocker was the Bathroom, I can safely say it was the worse hotel bathroom I have ever seen. Apart from being tiny, the sink was cracked, the plug was rusty, sealant was peeling off everywhere, mould around the base of the windows, corroded taps on the bath and the sink, broken tiles with poorly repaired thick grouting I could go on but again on the plus side (just) it was all functional and my wife and I just about managed our ablutions in a tiny space.
Dinner on the Friday evening in a rather tired restaurant area was not universally welcomed by all our group, my pork was good but the fish and chips looked like it could have come out of an Iceland frozen ready meal. To the hotels credit after that the breakfasts and Saturdays dinner were first class.
The bar area is really nice with a good range of drinks which was made even better by four free drinks tokens each on the Saturday. It has lots of comfortable seating and good views of the stage. A Dolly Parton tribute act on Friday was really good but Johnny Cash on the Saturday did go on rather long.
All the staff we encountered were really polite and friendly and the service as a whole was excellent.
This hotel is geared up mostly for Shearings Tours (we weren't part of them) and you certainly get what you pay for on a budget. With numerous elderly guests the hotel only has one lift and is very very small which left for queues to use it at busy times on all floors.
Criticisms aside, which I think the hotel management would agree with me, I enjoyed our stay this time but would not go back again. But if you are looking for a hotel on a budget which ticks all of your boxes then this might be the place for you.

Booked this 5 day holiday at the last minute with Shearings. We had to pay a little extra to an upgraded room that had been refurbished. The room was nicely decorated although the window sill in the bathroom and bedroom need a coat of paint along with a bit of the shirting board under the mirror in the bedroom, apart from that we were very satisfied. The meals were tasty and adequate with a good choice at evening meal and serve yourself breakfast. Our servers Karen and Alfredo were friendly and chatty. All the staff in the restaurant and kitchen worked very hard. Our coach driver was Jim who was very informative on the trips and nothing was too much trouble. He was friendly and helpful and was always telling jokes, some not so funny LOL. This was our second visit to this hotel and would certainly return for the price we paid it was a bargain.Thank you for a lovely stay

We had booked a twin room and arrived early, we were told we would be called when our room was ready, that didn’t happen but we checked in after a drink in the bar. When we got to our room it was a double so we returned to reception and were spoken to rather abruptly and told “you have to wait in the queue, a coach party had just arrived, we were then told by a male manager that there were no twin rooms left and we could take it or leave it.
we were given another room (so separate rooms on different floors) we were given a free bottle of wine in the bar that evening.
Although the other people there had a voucher in their room for a free bottle anyway so bit of an empty gesture?

The food was lovely on both nights that we stayed, the restaurant staff are very hard working and attentive. The entertainment on both evenings was very good, overall we enjoyed the weekend but the rooms are very dated, grubby and very old. They waived the parking fee too for our inconvenience.

Not sure if we would return to this hotel?

We have stayed here on numerous occasions now and always find it is very good value for money considering we have dinner bed and breakfast and there is also evening entertainment. Always look forward to our visits here. The only one thing is that the hotel has a very old lift which can only just take 3 small people or two if you are on the larger side. Would thoroughly recommend this hotel.

Came for tribute weekend and have to say was very dissapointed. Both Friday and Saturdays acts were awful, the bar was very hot too. The entertainment on Sunday night however was outstanding. Neil Scott was very entertaining and the standard you would expect on other nights. We visit Shearings hotels twice a year and the ent on 14/15 was by far the worst we have seen.

The rooms are s bit tired and could really do with some attention and the hotel would definitely benefit from a proper lift.

The food menu and quality was as usual very good and staff were very attentive in both the bar and restaurant especially Karen.

Spent four days there midweek. First thoughts were good, especially the food. Room was clean. After a day or two the mediocre standard of the hotel started to show. I must say that the food was good throughout the stay, but, the dining room was seriously understaffed at all times. Breakfast time was a chaotic event with very long queues, and rude guests (well, some of them).
At night the entertainment was laughable, and,in my view, poor.
Drinks were very expensive, especially because a cup of tea is £2.45.
Overall I would suggest that you find another hotel if you wanted a hotel with a comfortable atmosphere.

Our room on the first floor side of the hotel can only be described as scruffy.
Very old dressing table and side bedside cabinets. Bed a small double. The sheets were clean enough.
The bathroom was tiny without a window. We were unable to use the shower our five nights stay as it only ran hot water and the cold fill wasn't working. We could only use the small basin for washing. No ironing board available.
Food was 'school dinners " meat and two veg every evening. Breakfast was OK if you like your bacon Pale and rubbery.
The main lounge was dirty with dead flies all along the window cills. The entrance hall had cobwebs all across the windows and around the light fittings.
The outside parking area was cracked and uneven.
Once side of the hotel was covered by scaffolding which looked like it had been there for sometime

Sorry, but I am not aware that there are any lower ground floor rooms. A quick phone call to them and I'm sure they will try to accommodate you. The staff were really helpful when we were there. There were several disabled people there at the same time as us, but not sure where their rooms were.
