We had a fantastic stay at Greenwood Grange, it is in an idyllic spot yet easy to reach lots of different attractions. The cottage was quite small but well set out and the communal garden out back was a great spot to have lunch/dinner/play. The play area has everything you could want, our son loved playing with the toys in the yurt. He also loved visiting the chickens to get eggs and the kitchen garden to pick vegetables/fruit - amazing! Greenwood Grange have gone to a lot of effort to make guests feel comfortable during these unusual times, there are hand sanitisers everywhere and the booking system for the swimming pool worked well. Although reception was closed they were very responsive via email and when we let them know that a couple of things were missing from the cottage they were provided quickly. We are looking forward to going back!

We had a great week in the lovely Greenwood Grange. Our cottage was very well equipped and tastefully decorated. Beds very comfortable and quality white linen. We enjoyed the yoga and bubble workshop and the playground and donkeys on site as well as fresh eggs from the chickens. The children loved the pool and having only one cottage in at a time is probably a good idea going forwards as your kids can jump in as much as they like and not bother anyone else! This is a perfect place for a family getaway or larger family/friends gathering. It's only 5 mins drive to Dorchester with lots of eating out options plus nice local pubs and local historial sites eg Maiden Castle to explore. The team are thoughtful and responsive and touches such as the washing machines/tumble driers/drying racks make a week in the English weather more bearable ! Having said that we had some great weather too and Weymouth and Studland beaches not far away.

If I was being picky I would say the shower room in Casterbridge cottage is quite small (there is a further larger bathroom with a bath) and whilst the garden is large it is quite shady so we didn't sit out in it as much as we expected - but overall the whole site is very well maintained, peaceful, high quality and a very relaxing place to stay. Thank you!

Hi Thank you for your lovely review following your recent stay in Casterbridge. I'm so pleased you enjoyed some of our summer activities that we have been running for the first time this year, the bubble workshop in particular was very very popular ! Its also great that you enjoyed the private use of the pool by timed swim slots, the system seems to be working very well for all guests. We hope to welcome you back for another just as relaxing stay in the future, Kind regards Zoe and the Greenwood team

We enjoyed out week at Flintcombe, a 3 bedroom cottage on the Greenwood Grange site in Higher Bockhampton near Dorchester. We booked a week in July 2021 in December 2020 at the height of the Coronavirus lockdown. We hoped that would allow us quality time with our new granddaughter born Spring 2020 and her parents. Contact with Greenwood Grange was mainly by e-mail and it worked well with quick clear responses. We paid the final balance using a credit card by telephone. Greenwood Grange kept us informed of their Coronavirus policies, actions and rules. There is a good smartphone ap which was very useful particularly for activities and finding places to eat out. There was parking space for two cars adjacent to the garden entrance to the cottage. All the facilities promised were present. Granddaughter and her parents really enjoyed the pool which was booked out to one cottage at a time - a really good idea. Our son and his wife enjoyed staying at Greenwood Grange so much they will be hoping to book again in future. To improve we suggest a bigger bin in the kitchen and getting the fridge/freezer defrosted. The door locks needed lubricating. These are niggles which did not spoil our holiday. We are happy to recommend Greenwood Grange.

Dear Bruce Thank you so much for taking the time to leave such a detailed review following your recent stay with us in Flintcombe and to explain to other guests how the complex is currently operating. Flintcombe is a popular detached house with private garden and is set a little away from the remainder of the accommodation with views across to the nearby woodland. Its a really popular property for families and I'm pleased that t suited your requirements. I will pass the feedback onto the housekeeping and maintenance team. I do hope that we can welcome you all back to Greenwood in the near future, Kind regards Zoe

We stayed at Greenwood Grange over a weekend in October and left disappointed.

Broadly speaking the accommodation and facilities are in good shape but we had the following issues.

1. Each cottage is issued with one roll of loo roll, thereafter you are expected to provide your own. This might sound trivial but Greenwood is charging £200 plus per night. I’d expect that sort of policy from a backpackers not a family friendly cottage.
2. We requested a travel cot for our toddler. This was left for us to construct. After spending some time of my holiday doing someone else’s job it became apparent that the cot was actually broken. This means I had to call Maintenance at about 8pm – however the cottages are actually in a signal blindspot so this involves taking a walk in the cold and rain to the garden where there is signal and then having a conversation with Maintenance – who then eventually come do the job they should have done that morning – this involved having a look at the existing cot and then changing it. Our cot was also not provided with a sheet, blanket or pillow. We were informed by Maintenance that the travel cot we requested is only the travel cot - sheets, blankets and pillows are not provided.
3. We had a cottage with non-functioning oven – again having to contact Maintenance involves a nice walk in the rain to make a phone call.

Lastly at no point are we asked to provide feedback to anyone about our stay, and we have no contact person to let them know any specific issues.

Dear Daniel Thank you for your review and I'm sorry to hear that your stay with us didn't live up to expectation that is certainly not the norm for our guests as our other reviews indicate . Our policy on what is provided in the cottages is explained in the pre arrival information that was emailed out to you with the booking confirmation and there are stocks of additional household items such as bin liners, dishwasher tablets and toilet rolls etc available 24 hours a day in the laundry room. There are contact details emailed to you on the day of arrival as well as a laminated note in each cottage with the numbers and email addresses so that guests are able to contact the team if they have any questions or issues during their stay, as we are working on a reduced admin team on site. I can only apologize that the cot was not set up and this was an omission by the housekeeping team and would have prevented this happening, the information regarding the cot bedding is clearly indicated in the pre arrival information that was sent out with your booking confirmation. I understand that the issue with the oven setting was resolved once the team had been notified. I'm sorry that we didn't live up to expectations and I can appreciate that the maintenance issues distracted you from fully enjoying your weekend with us and I do hope that should you wish to come back you will enjoy a more relaxing stay. Kind regards Zoe

We stayed in the Wessex. Two cottages turned in to one, so two kitchens, living rooms, bedrooms and bathrooms (en-suite to both). This is a dog friendly cottage but the fencing allows for dogs in all gardens to see movement in other gardens and we had neighbours (Melstock Cottage) that had two very reactive and noisy dogs; every time we went in the garden they would start yapping at us and then the owners shouted at them and herded them indoors, not a peaceful situation. Solution to this would be solid fencing rather than slatted between the cottages?
Given the good weather, we were disappointed that there were no sun loungers/deckchairs for the garden, perhaps these could be a summer addition?
Beds in the twin room - mattresses didn't match the bases, they were too long and clearly visible. These beds felt unstable as well, beds could do with an upgrade, not just the mattresses alone. No additional bedding provided at all which is unusual from our experience.
Cottage had not been cleaned thoroughly, cobwebs found on arrival; appreciate the rural location but a top to bottom dust down between guest booking should be the norm. Extractor hood needs a good clean, greasy and dusty on top. No washing up bowl in a single sink, so this makes it difficult to drain liquids; needs a washing up bowl.
Lack of power points throughout the living room and bedrooms; extension provided by owners but not long enough.
Pool is not as photographed, mural is no longer there and paint is peeling in areas around the pool. Sauna was out of order for duration of our stay. Only one swim slot allowed per cottage, per day which results in slots going unused most days when guests may want to swim more; even more difficult for those who are in a larger family/friend group and may not want to swim together. I would suggest that if you want an extra swim, if you go up to the booking sheet and the pool isn't booked out, that you should be able to book it out at short notice.
Check in and check out times advertised on Cottages.com website are not the same (quite late check in 4pm and early check out 9am) again appreciate the busy season/covid/cleaning etc and could have asked etc etc but times should match even where an agent is used for booking.
Some of the furniture has seen better days and is mismatched; dining table in particular is very badly stained and marked. Small set of drawers in twin room needs attention to the drawer stoppers otherwise they fall out on opening.
I think this particular cottage needs a thorough audit really, not worth the money we paid for it even for peak season and even with all of the amenities on site, we holiday at least 3 times a year in UK and feel we have paid less for much better quality accommodation.
Lovely staff. Good location. Pretty grounds, well maintained. Good onsite parking.

Dear Tina Thank you for taking the time to review your recent stay with us in Wessex, I'm sorry to hear that the accommodation didn't live upto your expectations, Wessex is one of our most popular cottages being the only two bed and 2 bath properties we have here at Greenwood. We will take on board your suggestions and feedback and discuss this with the team as we head into the winter refurbishment period. The comments regarding the cleaning will be passed onto housekeeping, please accept our apologies for this not being upto scratch. With regards to the pool booking system, we are continuing to monitor guests comments on this but currently the overwhelming majority of guests find the booking system a positive as they enjoy having the pool to themselves and knowing that they will be able to swim at a certain time meaning they can plan their day accordingly, it also reduces the amount of time the pool has to be closed for water treatment. Kind regards Zoe

A great family holiday at the Greenwood Grange! I have been here several times on holiday as a child in the 90's and so was keen to come back with my wife and new baby over 20 years later. Our cottage was clean, spacious, modern and had a high end kitchen and bathroom. The site itself is very well maintained and offers a large communal garden with x2 hot tubs, swimming pool, tennis courts etc. Lots of nice little touches like fresh eggs / produce from their gardens if you require, a laundry room with everything you may need or may have run out of. It feels like they have carefully thought of everything for you. A great peaceful location close to lots of local attractions and beaches. We'll certainly be back and would highly recommend to anyone! A big thank you to the team for doing a good job!

We stayed in Durbaville Cottage for three nights and had a really lovely time. The facilities were great - the hot tub really made the weekend for us, and the master bedroom with its freestanding tub and lovely warm lighting was beautiful.

We really appreciated the warm, clean swimming pool - the current setup is that you can reserve one 30/45-minute slot per day, although the weekend we stayed was so quiet that we were able to use it more than that.

The weather wasn't great so we didn't make much use of the trampoline or little play area but these would all be brill in the summer. And I have to give a shout out to the admin team who are super efficient with email communication and really helpful when I sent them queries.

We would visit again.

We stayed here last year, and returned this year. We stayed in Henchard, which is the largest of their properties. All comments refer to Henchard unless otherwise noted.

The location is lovely. It's ten minutes outside Dorchester, five minutes off the A35. Dead easy to find (literally next door to Hardy's Cottage) but very private and secluded. Henchard stands alone at the end of the site, with a large garden that looks down a small valley. There are a few tents pitched in the field at the end, but you are private. secluded and quiet. There is a large garden, and a fenced off pond beyond that, so you have privacy. The garden is large enough for kids to run around in, and play footbally/catch/whatever. The hot tub is a good size - four adults comfortably, six who know each other well. There is a large table outside and inside - you can easily seat a dozen or more.

The main lounge inside is MASSIVE. All the space you will ever need. The kitchen is on the small side - it's galley style so not the biggest. It's fairly well equipped, has two fridges, a freezer and two ovens (although the ovens aren't very good).

Four bedrooms, two ensuite. Three have doubles, the fourth has twin beds. Two of them also have bunk beds. So plenty of room, but when it says sleeps 12, be aware it's in four bedrooms.

The site is great. There are two decent tennis courts, a kids play area, a small but serviceable swimming pool and a games room. COVID restrictions mean that you need to book pool slots each day, and you need to be sensible onsite, but that's true everywhere.

We loved it. The staff are very helpful and friendly, and it's a really calm, relaxing place to spend a week. BBQ in the garden, and watching the stars from the hottub is lovely. And there is lots to keep the kids happy. Recommended

Hi Chris Thank you for the great review following your most recent stay with us, I'm so pleased that you enjoyed your return visit to Henchard. Its one of our most popular properties due to its size and is also popular for events and wedding receptions. We are delighted to be reopen following the recent closure and to welcome guests both new and returning back to Greenwood Grange, and its wonderful to hear that despite the changes we have had to put in place for the leisure facilities, you all enjoyed a relaxing stay with us. I will pass the comments regarding the ovens onto the maintenance team, the kitchen did have an appliance upgrade during closure but I'm sure they can solve any issues. We hope to welcome you all back once again in teh future, Kind regards Zoe

Having cancelled our Portugal holiday at short notice we didn't have a huge amount of options for where to go for a break but boy did we luck out with Greenwood Grange!

We visited with our 2.5yo daughter and it was perfect for her age group - safe places to play, chickens to visit, well equipped comfortable cottage and close to beaches and other things to do. It really felt the like the team had put a lot of thought into how to make guests feel safe and they have done it perfectly without it being too in your face. The swimming pool being "private" per cottage was a huge upside - I'd keep it like that forever now!

The cottage was really well equipped for self-catering (we didn't eat out at all) and they were really accommodating to my requests before we arrived. Only minor thing would be the water pressure for the "monsoon" shower was really low but I guess that is to be expected for the countryside!

Would definitely come back

Hello Thank you for taking the time to leave such a lovely review following your recent stay with us, I'm delighted that we could make up in some part for you not being able to travel to Portugal. We have been working hard to ensure the safety of guests and staff once we were able to reopen and I'm so glad that you felt as if we have been successful in doing so. We are very grateful that our guests have also helped by working with us even when the guidelines have changed. The private pool scheme has been really popular, with amazing feedback and we are considering whether we keep this in place once we return to normality - whenever that may be. In the mean time it will be remaining in place. We do hope that we will see you all again back at Greenwood in the not to distant future and thank you once again for your fabulous review. Best wishes Zoe and the Greenwood team.

Location is great just off the A31 but yet immersed in the tranquil wood and countryside. Our cottage was 2 bedrooms flat for our family of 4. The kitchen and living space are tiny with no dishwasher which for a “luxury” cottage did not make my experience luxurious at all. The swimming pool is small and the “covid” restricted hours made it impossible for us to us it more than once over our 3 days stay. Also, there is no small kid playroom which was very disappointing on a rainy day. It’s a decent place in a nice location but no “luxury” at all. It’s quite basic but comes at a premium price which Indo not believe it is worth it. Check in at 4pm (very late compared to other luxury stay) and check out at 9am (very early for our standards) also did not make our arrival / departure pleasant.

Dear Valentina Thank you for your review, I'm sorry to hear that your stay with us did not reach your expectations. We do have dishwashers in the majority of our cottages and the website clearly states what facilities are available in each property so that guests can make an informed choice when they are booking with us. We do have the games room open with table tennis, pool and barbillards and the pay cabin the children's play field is also available each day with a selection of toys, in addition extra books toys and dvd's are available to borrow from the laundry room if the weather is inclement. The pool is open from 7am - 10pm with slots available throughout the day for each cottage to have a swim, this system has been in place since Covid restrictions were lifted and as you will see from other reviews has been incredibly popular, so much so that we have been asked to keep it in place, which we have. With regards to the check in / out times we are able to be more flexible out of peak season, if bookings either side allow and had you requested a later check out we could have accommodated that for you. All of the details were in the pre arrival information that was sent out to you I'm sorry that your stay wasn't as expected, as this is not the usual guest experience here at Greenwood
