The Grosvenor Arms is newly refurbished, it is traditional yet stylish, relaxed yet ‘buzzy’, and open all day. There are 16 bedrooms to choose from: cosy double, spacious double, deluxe double, balcony double, or suites – each one is beautifully appointed and furnished, decorated in a style appropriate to one of Shaftesbury’s oldest inns, but complete with the modern facilities you expect. You are always welcome, for a drink in the bar, a cup of coffee in the conservatory, or a pizza from the wood oven. The restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and the paved courtyard is always available for an alfresco lunch or drink.

My family and I came in on Friday night, and we weren't disappointed. The atmosphere was perfect, sat in the bar with the resident Friday night DJ. The music was just right for the mood, and volume just right. Such a mix of people, from locals to residents staying at the hotel all looking relaxed and happy. The steak was the best we've had in a long time, cooked to perfection. Would also recommend the chicken dish. Staff were great, from Danielle booking the table, to Elly the Manager looking after us, as well as Tom & Marianna keeping the wine flowing! Couldn't fault the experience at all. Thank you!

Boutique hotel and bar in the centre of Shaftesbury. We'll decorated and very clean rooms. Super dog friendly, so many dogs laying around! We booked the room and dining option and the system automatically booked us a table. Food was good, gluten free pizza was the best. The reason for only 3 circles was that our standard room was very small especially as it was over £200 pee night. Manager didn't seem all that chuffed to be there but the staff were generally good. So 5/5 for the decor, the dogs, the location and food but the room was small and apparently no possibility of an upgrade.

Poor reception service, with a wait of 1 hour before we had to ask again about checking in. We booked on a Stay & Dine offer. The menu was limited, so we ended up with pizzas! Chorizo potatoes were in a small dish with bright green liquid??? Window in room was rattling all night. DJ on Friday night was far too loud, and just played clubbing music. Because of this the bar was mainly full of very young loud adults, who were quite wild. Not suitable for 60 year olds on a Friday night. Pop up bakery on Saturday overfilled the paper bag, and consequently it broke apart when getting into our car at the front of the hotel, with pastries falling onto a drain. We won’t revisit this hotel.

Warm and cosy, with the staff kept very busy by the constant influx of local townspeople - this hotel seems to be the centre of the Shaftesbury community, with a busy bar and interesting menus. And Shaftesbury has plenty to offer for a tourist, even out of high season.

Booking was simple and made directly with the hotel over the telephone for their ‘Balcony Suite’ including Breakfast’. Note; this reservation was guaranteed with a valid card and payment was taken for the full amount 7 full days prior to arrival, in line with their cancellation policy. The Hotel itself was relatively easy to find in the town centre, however it has no dedicated parking. There are though plenty of parking options locally and they did reimburse parking costs (up to £6.00 per night) against food and drink purchases made whilst staying with them. Further information on local car parks is provided on the hotel website. Check in was friendly and comprehensive, and we were introduced to the various aspects available to guests, such as the bar, restaurant, etc. on the way to the room. Service throughout our stay was knowledgeable and staff were welcoming, helpful, friendly and professional. The room was large, clean, nicely furnished with a bath in the room, whilst the adjoining bathroom was complete with monsoon shower and toilet. There is also an exit onto a large balcony that overlooks the courtyard below. Normal facilities are available (tea, coffee, etc) with bottled milk. There is free Wi-Fi available throughout the hotel that operated, during our stay, at somewhat weak strength. The downstairs bar area had comfortably stylish and relaxed, where you could get a full menu meal or snack (they have their own pizza oven), complete with cosy armchairs, settees and wood-burner. There was an additional stone courtyard, complete with fountain, but the weather was not conducive for use during our stay. The bar had local craft beers available, along with cider and a comprehensive wine list, good selection of spirits, especially gins, and some classic cocktails for the more adventurous. Breakfast was taken in the restaurant, again on the ground floor, and included (on the list) pastries, fruit compotes, fresh fruit juices and a variety of cooked to order options. The Hotel room and other prices are within today’s 4-star middle range of what we would have expected. All in all, an enjoyable short getaway in a very nice part of the English countryside, and one I have no hesitation in recommending to others.

Just back from an overnight stay at the Grosvenor Arms and we were delighted. First time visit to Shaftesbury. Found the Grosvenor online, liked the look of it and we weren't disappointed. We arrived really early but received a warm welcome and to our surprise our room was already available. The room itself was perfect. Spacious , clean , with a big comfortable bed , plenty of wardrobe space and one of the best UK hotel bedrooms I've come across. A fantastic big, powerful shower. Excellent toiletries and great towels. The attention to detail in the room and bathroom were first class and a credit to the management and staff. We had booked the 'dine and stay' package so had dinner in the hotel too. Food was nice though my only feedback is that the choice of main meals is a bit limited. Breakfast this morning was great, freshly cooked with pastries, yogurt, jams, and cereals all available too. All in all a lovely break for us and a strong recommendation for anyone staying in Shaftesbury of surrounding area.

On arrival the bar area was welcoming and busy, however, went to put bags in room to find it smelling like stale vomit! Opened windows to air the room in the hope it would waft away and went down to dinner as a party of 11. The service was extremely slow and when food finally arrived the burgers were hard and dry, chicken dish undercooked in addition to everything but the pizzas being served luke warm. Returned to room at around 11.30 pm to find it still stinky but no one available on reception to ask about alternative room so slept badly with the window open. 5 of our party of 11 had stayed and arrived for breakfast. Nearly an hour later the food arrived and yet again a big disappointment. Both fried and poached eggs hard and more or less cold. The staff seemed inexperienced and with little to no supervision. In their defence we did get some discount on room and food but would stay or eat their again if it were free.

We have just returned home from a weekend trip to Shaftesbury, we stayed at The Grovesnor Arms for two nights and I cannot rate it highly enough. It has such a welcoming atmosphere, everyone is so friendly and helpful, the food was better than amazing and the beer was like nectar! When we booked I advised the hotel we had three dogs, on arrival each dog had their own welcome pack, such a lovely touch. We dinned in the snug on the Friday evening which was a perfect end to a very busy day of work and travel. On Saturday we had friends join us and we dinned in the main bar, even though it was busy the staff were very attentive to our needs and always found time to check if we required anything and to make a fuss of our pouches. I could go on and on, but instead I will just say if you are thinking of booking, just do it, you will not be sorry. Finally I send a massive thank you to all the staff at The Grovesnor Arms, you are all truly amazing 😘

The rooms were superb. The beds like clouds and the service excellent. The breakfast was amazing. I will definitely recommend to anyone and I will certainly be going back. I left my wallet by accident and they even posted it back to London for me by special delivery. All in all a top Hotel and top staff.
