Lawn Cottage is situated in a wonderful location of rolling hills, dotted with farms, country villages just up the road (row), from the Stour Row Village Hall, very near Shaftesbury. We 'homed' (not stayed) here 3 nights in late June, Our host, June has made a welcoming home-like B&B in Lawn Cottage. Our room was nice-sized and had an ensuite, included a great king bed that cured Mr H.'s groin strain in one night. Said strain developed during six nights of 'luxury hotel' beds in London. This bed is true goldilocks, not too hard, not too soft. Just right. The breakfasts featured french press coffee, well cooked bacon, eggs, toast, FRESH squeezed juice and the best homemade granola/muesli Mrs H or I have ever tasted. June generously shared the 'secret' recipe. Lawn Cottage includes a lovely garden complete with two of the sweetest and gentle dogs one will ever meet, fruit trees, beautiful English cottage flowers and chickens, June knows this part of Dorset well and gave good guidance and excellent restaurant recommendations. Oh, the restaurants. During a three week trip to England and Scotland, Lawn Cottage stands out as the one of two 'lodgings' to deserve a recommendation. You'll have to take the high road to Scotland for the other.…
This is one of the very best B&B cottages in England, charm personified and generally materialised by the hostess, trusty canine companion and the gorgeous house and gardens, boosted with very authentic English hens to provide for one's breakfast. The fresh mushrooms, marmalade and bread are also much appreciated!
An excellent place to stay if you are visiting this part of Dorset. Delightful cottage with beautiful bedrooms and private bathrooms. June is a charming hostess: nothing was too much trouble, and it was delightful to sit chatting to her in her large yet cosy kitchen. Breakfast was superb: full English with homemade everything including the most delicious marmalade I have ever tasted. Set in a quiet hamlet, with ample parking. Lovely garden - we were encouraged to pick apples to take home. We left wishing we could have stayed for longer: we felt rested and restored after one night, so goodness knows how relaxed we would have felt if we'd stayed for a full weekend! Can't recommend highly enough.
Our stay at Lawn Cottage met every expectation: a beautiful quaint historic Cottage, a beautiful garden & an extremely comfortable & well appointed room. We received a gracious welcome from host June, who could have done enough. The generous breakfast was memorable. We highly recommend a stay. Two very happy Aussies sorry to leave!
We stayed at Lawn Cottage for a few days whilst visiting my mum. Six of us stayed at Lawn Cottage - plenty of room and everything of high quality. We all slept very well with just the sound of the birds to wake us. So tranquil and relaxing. June provided a hearty breakfast and first class coffee.Beautiful gardens backing onto open fields. A real tonic. A thoroughly excellent time. Highly recommended.
Stayed here whilst visiting family in Gillingham. The cottage is in a gorgeous country hamlet about 4 miles from Gillingham & Shaftesbury. A perfect cottage for dog owners as our bedroom was on the ground floor with our own access to the garden. June, the host, made us very welcome & cooked our breakfast to our specific requirements served in her charming dining room. Visited Shaftesbury & Gillingham as well as the National Trust's Stourhead & Kingston Lacy - both of which were less than 40 minutes away. The cottage was only a couple of fields away from Duncliffe Woods which was full of bluebells during our visit. A delight - we will return!
We stayed for one night on our way down to Cornwall. The cottage and hut were perfect with beautiful gardens set in a pretty village. Nearby pub was excellent and within walking distance. Charming host, June, made us feel at home and breakfast in the garden was excellent! Very romantic and would recommend the Shepherds Hut which was very comfortable, private, peaceful with an idyllic view over the buttercup-filled field in the morning. Only possible complaint would be that the incredible climbing rose was not in full bloom yet. Will definitely be back!
We stayed here again and each visit we have had a pleasant welcome and been looked after by June, comfortable beds and yummy breakfasts! Last year we stayed in the cozy shepherds hut with log burner a little glamping such fun! Would highly recommend this country b & b
Myself & my three sons stayed in the shepherd's hut. All the beds were extremely comfortable with luxurious bedding & we all slept well. We were kept warm by the wood burning stove (although it was August!) & even boiled the kettle on top of it! June our hostess made us incredibly welcome & provided us with a delicious & hearty breakfast. Although the toilet & shower facilities are in the house, they weren't far to go & easily reached as the way was lit by magical fairy lights. June had even provided dressing gowns to pop on if the facilities were needed in the night! We will certainly return & bring my husband to experience the delights of Lawn Cottage's shepherd's hut & June's warm welcome!
This was a second visit and as ever it was faultless and we had a lovely stay. June is the perfect hostess and serves a delicious breakfast. Beds are comfortable, rooms quiet, nice garden to sit out in, good parking and we'll be back there again shortly. High recommend
