We were looking for a BB central to Swanage and came across the Oxford House. The owner Robin took our provisional booking over the phone and was extremely helpful with our queries as to what the area was like etc. Upon arrival we were greeted by Robin who was very pleasant and welcoming and later we met his wife Janis who was lovely! The bedroom was clean, the bed comfortable and we had a lovely little view across the bay from our window. The breakfast was very tasty and filling, served by a very polite young girl. Also, the hotel was quiet and we slept well on both nights. Would definitely stay there again.

We stayed for 3 nights as a short get away to the seaside (Monday 20th June - Thursday 23rd June 2016). Welcome was warm and friendly and the room was ready sooner than we were expecting. Janis dealt with us mainly and was always happy to help with things to do. Breakfast was lovely and filling. I was 30 weeks pregnant at the time and Janis made sure my egg was cooked fit for me to have! On the Thursday, when a colleague had taken over for the next couple of days, Janis had already mentioned to her that my egg needed to be done a bit more and what we'd previously ordered which gave the B&B just a bit more of a personal touch. Room was small but clean and just what we needed. Setting is quiet and we got a good nights sleep each night! The B&B was quiet and there was no disruption or noise. 1 minute walk from the town centre! Perfect! I would definitely stop here again if we were to ever venture down to Swanage.

Recently we stayed at Oxford House BB in Central Swanage for a short Family Holiday. Though we had enjoyed our stay in Swanage, we would not stay at this BB again. We found that the proprietors were Snobbish towards their guests & at Breakfast time never made an appearance to see if you had slept well or to check if you were happy with Breakfast, they spent their time in the kitchen while the young waitress is left on her own in the morning to face the guests. While we spent a Day out exploring Dorset they had removed from our room our Daughter crabbing bucket & nets and put these in their garden without our permission, words failed us with their attitude how they think they got the right to remove your items from the room. Though this BB has family Rooms we suggest that you find another BB that actually welcome families & young people with this BB they have framed rules & regulations on the wall that you got abide with. On our last Day when we were leaving at no point did they say goodbye to us, or we would like see you again, THIS AGAIN WAS EXTREMELY RUDE. In short we felt they were only interested in your money so avoid

Response from JanisC749, Owner at The Oxford House

We're sorry you and your family were unhappy staying with us at Oxford House. The large bucket was actually put in our laundry room and not outside because of the rain, as the smell in the bedroom was horrendous. The rules and regulations I presume you're referring to was information about the wi fi, medical help, restaurants (menus), offer of beach towels instead of guest towels and 'please no take away food in the room'. We stayed here in June from Thursday until Sunday. We found the property very clean, the owners Robin and Janis very pleasant and obliging, especially with my wife's medication, so thank you Janice for that. The breakfast was spot on with cereal fruit juice, full English with a choice of something else if required. The property is in a great location near the town and shops and seafront . The only minor drawback was the room on the top floor in which we found a bit of a hike, after a night out, also if you want a stand-in shower the top room is not for you as it is a bath with a hand shower ,which was fine by us. To be fair Janis did tell me when I booked, but I forgot,so no complaints, I will try the get the first floor and book earlier next time I visit. Overall a very pleasant stay, and would stay again.

My partner and I stayed last weekend, room was clean and tidy, with a sea view. We took a bottle of wine on our first night, the next day there was two crystal glasses waiting for us next to the coffee and tea...nice touch :) Staff really friendly, had full English every day..lovely! Really informative about where to go, spent a lot in the Curiosity shop! Will visit again.
