Such a blissful stay, I wish it was longer! Upon arrival you walk through the beautifully kept garden once in the house we were met by a lovely member of staff, who was friendly and welcoming! We were in room 3 which was so cozy and well decorated, we also had a lovely view from the room. There were so many lovely touches sprinkled on top, for example the Macarons and coffee machine in the room!! Before heading down to the restaurant we sat on the stunning balcony and enjoyed a drink. Then to the best part- the food! It was all of such a high standard and the staff are all so friendly and professional! We will definitely be back to try more from their exceptional menu…it all looked great! We had to leave early the next morning, so sadly weren’t able to have a sit down breakfast. However, the team was so accommodating and sent us on our way with a breakfast box, with pastries, fruit salad, yoghurts and cereal. Absolutely delicious!

This is a lovely hotel in a charming village, very accessible for the various coastal towns east of Brighton.
Alfriston remains true to its history and has avoided the imposition of chain shops taking on old premises. For a small village it remarkably has four pubs (one currently undergoing refurb) and plenty of dining choices. We ate on both nights of our stay at the Wingrove restaurant which was a little disappointing on each visit but is worth a try.
The rooms have been beautifully restored with quality furnishings, fixtures and fittings whilst the shell/structure of the original building has been retained, hence the whole place feels very clean, comfortable and modern but has bags of character. We chose a room with a bath, which was a beautiful, large egg-shaped example. While you soak away with a glass of something fizzy from the nearby Rathfinny vineyard, you can spend hours wondering how on earth they got the thing through the door.
The lounge offers complimentary daily papers and a lovely setting for a pre or post dinner drink by the fire or just somewhere to relax after your day out.
All the staff we met were charming, friendly and made us feel very welcome and valued. Everywhere was scrupulously clean and housekeeping was spot on.
The breakfast was very good indeed.
Wingrove is superbly located for short (or long) peaceful walks out direct from the hotel's gardens so you don't need to spend the day driving to get out for some fresh air.
Parking is available for hotel guests via Tye Road, which we initially missed as it is marked Private.
There is some noise from other rooms and traffic passing through the village - the walls all seem rather thin - so if you are sensitive to this you may want to ask for a room at the back of the hotel. It didn't bother us at all though.

We stayed at Wingrove while attending Glyndebourne. There’s a small car park at the back of the hotel which is on the main street.
Staff are welcoming and helpful and we had supper there too.
The rooms are well designed with luxurious bathrooms, drench shower and large bathtub. Templespa toiletries, cotton wool balls and earbuds, but no shower cap. All rooms have hand sanitizer as well as a nespresso machine, slippers and dressing gowns.
Only downside is some rooms are at the front and it can be a busy main road plus the blinds don’t block out all the street lights and hotel signage lights.
Supper included vegetarian options, cauliflower veloute and salads, as well as a mushroom miso main.
Breakfast is also recommended with the traditional options as well as pancakes and avocado on sourdough.

Can I start by saying its really not nice to be told I should of booked direct with hotel as for 1 I don't go away much so I have to trust where the internet leads me....that said booking.com and this hotel didn't give me what I thought I'd asked for between them ,apparently they don't have the same wording obviously the hotel know exactly what type of rooms they have but are happy to not contact booking agencies or myself to make sure everyone's on the same page so when you ask for something special as its a important day and you don't get it and your told also the rooms are not what you thought you were getting it leaves a very sour taste in your mouth,as well as it came across when paying theirs nothing they would do except give me a discount voucher for a future visit....yeah right....anyway to the classic room I didn't ask for it was ok .... nice size bed a shared balcony....pretty standard en suit bathroom but thought I was getting walk in shower but obviously didn't happen....but word of warning the 2 things that secure a room is the door and the window(see pictur) locks do not fit also if you have a card telling you how to get the WiFi i shouldn't need to go and ask as the card is not correct....lastly the breakfast for fine but be warned if you like bacon and poached eggs your probably be very disappointed by the way it's cooked bit of a let down.....sorry about negativity but I felt strongly that the room issue should be mentioned i was also not the only one who had this issue as I was shown someone else paperwork where classic had been written on their paperwork.

Lovely hotel and great for Glyndebourne. Food and staff were very good. 3 minor downsides. Room on top floor and no lift. No aircon. Towels could be larger or more than 1 per person. However we would still highly recommend and return again if visiting the area. The restaurant was good

Enjoyed our stay in this lovely hotel, the staff are extremely friendly and helpful. it was spotlessly clean everywhere including our room. We stayed in room 9 and although could not fault the room and the wonderful bathroom , being on the road it was rather noisy at times especially early morning. The dining room in the evening was delightful with the trees lit up on the terrace, gave a great ambience. The food at dinner was good quality and well presented but thought it lacked a little something. The potatoes with the sole were very bland, no butter or anything on them and as fish was beautifully soft perhaps sauted potatoes would be more interesting. Did not think the bulgar wheat complimented the lovely duck breast that much either as again it seemed a little bland. However, this would not put me off eating here again especially as the breakfast was perfectly cooked and came with great chunky toast. The only downside we felt was that even though we stayed on a Dinner Bed and Breakfast rate a service charge was added to our dinner bill, not something that we have come across previously.

Just got back from a one night stay at Wingrove House. We've stayed in Alfriston twice before and wanted to try a different hotel. So glad we chose Wingrove. Lovely staff, from reception to restaurant and breakfast. I appreciated the words they spoke seemed like genuine words, and not something they had been trained to say. All the staff seemed happy and at ease in their work. The restaurant menu was varied and I could have easily chosen several things as all sounded delicious. We will have to come back to sample more! We stayed in a Deluxe room and it was absolutely delightful and very comfortable. I appreciated was the 10 minute phone call to our room prior to breakfast service closing (as my husband remembered the timing wrong and thought it closed half an hour later). Breakfast was also very good indeed. The hotel is situated in a quieter spot at the end of the high street, perfectly placed to explore the South Downs on foot or by car. Pretty little shops along the High Street. The small general store is fabulous, and provided us with lovely home-made sandwiches and treats for our walk up on the Downs. Would stay again in a heartbeat.

The hotel is situated on the edge of village but just a few minutes walk from the centre. There was ample and easy parking in the car park with good access to the reception area. The room was located on the first floor and was a good size with adjoining shower and toilet, both were well equipped and very nicely decorated. The restaurant facilities were excellent with a very good menu and superb food. The breakfasts were also very good with a variety of food on offer. The check in and out were very prompt and professional. The location of the hotel is excellent for walking as it is located close to the South Downs and a short drive from coast. It is good value for money and highly recommend.

Arrived punctually and offered drinks in the lounge. These arrived promptly and were given menus. Would have been nice if someone had returned to take our order but having been forgotten about (30mins) we went into the restaurant to seek assistance. Shown our table and had our order taken there, which meant there was a unnecessary delay with our food.
Nibbles were great especially the salami. Duck parfait excellent as was the scallops. If you have 'Gambas' on the menu I think that large unpeeled prawns spring to mind rather that medium sized peeled ones that constituted the 'Gambas Crostini' we received.
The Duck was okay as was the Confit leek. The Lemon Soles were plump and really well cooked. However at this point I have to query the lack of vegetable accompaniment with many of the main courses. Two pieces of broccoli and some new potatoes is a poor shout with most meat/ fish main courses close to or above £30 + 12½ % service. Even the choice of additional sides was pretty poor i.e. broccoli or french beans along with potatoes or salads.
Deserts were okay but not sure all homemade. The Gavi was excellent and the service other than the initial 'leave them to there own devices' moment was the best aspect of the meal. The manager was funny without being over the top, and even the young waitress engaged in illuminating conversation.
Overall a pleasant evening but felt the price point a bit above the quality of the food. If I was staying would probably need the menu to change often as would quickly run out of choices.

Our overnight stay at the Wingrove House capped an unforgettable visit to South Downs. We booked a Classic room, but Henrietta generously gave us a complimentary upgrade: exactly as they say on their website. The upgraded room was spacious, with a lovely view over the garden and Saint Andrew’s Church. Bed and bath linens were wonderfully plush. And climate control in the room was spot-on, with warmth embracing us upon our return from a walk at Seven Sisters Country Park. The public spaces were welcoming.
The food and service at breakfast and dinner were outstanding. We still talk about the warm spiced ginger cake — it was like a sweet hug pulling us in!
We have to mention the incredible Henrietta, who somehow managed to book for us a taxi to and from Seaford on very, very short notice. Without Henrietta, we two hapless souls who showed up last minute without a car would never be able to see and admire the iconic stunning beauty of the white chalk cliffs of the Seven Sisters.
Thank you so much for your hospitality!

Hi - There is a direct train from London Victoria. The nearest train station to Wingrove is Berwick. From Berwick station we are a 10 min taxi ride away - another option is Polegate Station (15 minutes by taxi).
Travel by car is approximately an hour and a half depending on where in London you are.
We are happy to give you names of local taxi firms to pick you up from the station should you wish.
