We stayed here for one night, it's a lovely old building full of massive beams and two wonderful fireplaces, both of which were alight during our stay. We enjoyed drinks right in front of the fire with our dog. That was another reason for staying, the fact we could bring our dog. The bar staff were very friendly and made...

A lovely position and very convenient for the South Downs Way. We enjoyed a good meal in the attractive bar/restaurant. The room was rather gloomy, and the bathroom looked slightly tired. The new annexe at the back of the hotel may well be brighter than our room. It was extremely warm - a common problem for old buildings although we...

Dear susan H, We are delighted that you found the food, staff and service to be of a high standard. Without knowing the exact date of your visit, I suspect this may have been an evening when the bar was busy and you were above these areas. On booking we are careful to mention that rooms above the pub and...

Thanks for liking our food and our people, Peter2665! We love meeting our old friends, regulars and new visitors, and our position at the epicentre of some fabulous national walking and cycling trails means that we meet thirsty and hungry hikers on a very regular basis (and their dogs)! We very much look forward to you returning to our firesides...

We booked a table for three for Christmas lunch. We didn't expect a five star experience as it's not that sort of place but we did have some expectations in terms of service and food that was at least edible. We were met by friendly staff upon arrival but once we sat down the problems began. As it was Christmas...

We walked from Firle to Alfriston as our half way point. A lovely pub with a roaring open fire. Dogs are allowed and petted, maybe given water and a treat if the right member of staff is on duty. Atmosphere in the pub is genuinely lovely, very friendly and relaxed. All the food that came out of the kitchen was...

We attended a wedding in October and stayed over as the bridal party had full occupancy of the hotel. Lovely venue, great wedding. The room was very modern and well equipped. My only complaint was the rattily single glazed windows throughout the night.
