Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Stayed here recently - was really impressed with the hotel. Staff were great - concierge, reception and restaurant staff were polite and met my needs. My car was looked after in the secure carpark - very important for me. The only slight downsides were the view from my room and the extremely creaky floorboards, otherwise a great sty - thank you.

My hotel of choice in Brighton. I stay here when I can while at conferences, or on solo shopping trips! Room was better, as had an upgrade which is always welcome. Everyone I met was very hospitable. Breakfast was great...aside from the price which is now £25...the icing on the cake was a service charge for a buffet?! In fairness, I was told when I was seated that it was optional, but when presented with the bill it was 28.00, with no option button. I don't agree with it for a buffet, even though I waitressed my socks off as a student and welcomed the tips, and I don't agree with it being included when told it was optional, so I asked for it to be removed. Hope it doesn't make me sound stingy, I just don't agree when it's a buffet. Will be back, but room only I think.

I had a wonderful mid week 2 night stay. Amazing room on the 6th floor with a view of West Pier. Beautiful decor and luxurious bedding. The staff are very friendly and attentive. The breakfast is incredible. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay and will definitely book again.

Our stay was as good as ever from arrival to departure. Every member of staff is friendly, professional and it seems they just can’t do enough for you. A great treat was an unexpected upgrade to a sea view executive room. Regrettably due to the appalling weather we couldn’t make use of the balcony but the room was spacious and comfortable. Breakfast is included and has a huge range of options, even with an omelette station. Valet parking has just gone up to £40 but that’s in line with public car parks nearby and is so convenient.

We felt like royalty. Greeted at the door, car keys taken and car parked. Bags taken to our room. All the staff were so polite and helpful. The hotel itself we found to be of a high standard and ornate. We cannot fault any of the service and our experience was delightful. We shall certainly return.

A fabulous visit as a birthday treat. The service was exceptional, the staff attentive and helpful. We felt really special. What a beautiful venue and home from home for a couple of day. We will certainly choose The Grand for our next visit and maybe treat ourselves to a Seaview.

The entrance. the room, the staff! all welcoming and smart, however, we do feel that the drInks were extremely expensive even for this quality of hotel. with a service charge for each round... this we feel is excessive. our room was a good size and was clean and well decorated, the bathroom a little tired, but everything worked as it should! I wonder about the life expectancy of the windows that are drenched each time the shower is used, but that is not my problem. The brass finishings in the lifts really does need a clean! they do let the hotel down. Breakfast is plentiful, well presented and good quality. Francesco our waiter. was a joy to chat to. and very helpful!. the view from the breakfast room windows was a let down, in that the window frames are filthy as is the brick work... its not a weeks worth of dirt that's for sure! would we come again?? YES!

We stayed for 4 nights costing £485 per night, a sixth floor balcony room with sea view over the Christmas/NY period. For a hotel that exudes luxury, they fell short on delivery. While the room was fabulous and recently renovated there were a few issues the maintenance team should have prioritised before receiving guests. Issue #1 - the radiator would not turn off, I like the room at 19 degrees. Issue #2 - the AC system kept cutting out, continuously displaying an error message - rendering it obsolete. Issue #3 - used the shower, drain was blocked, causing a flood in the bathroom. Issue #4 - Hotel guests were at times, squeezed into the elevator with porter and suitcase trolley - inappropriate and poor etiquette for a luxury hotel. The elevators are slow, being on the sixth floor, we waited up to 10 minutes for the elevator to arrive. Issue #5 - low water pressure on sixth floor, requires a retrofit water pump. NB: Once raised, the maintenance team were excellent and resolved most of the issues immediately with the exception of the AC system and water pressure. Though not ideal on New Year’s Day. We were comped 3 breakfasts (£120). However, we did have to labour the point on checkout, there was an unwillingness to recognise and accept we had issues. The room: Beautifully presented, decor, in-keeping with the local area, stunning bathroom fixtures and fittings reminiscent of the art deco period. The design and functionality has been well thought out, access to a large internally lit wardrobe, generous hanger space, coffee machine, a large 70inch integrated TV, desk, side tables with USB/plug/reading light, subtle room lighting to create your ambience, multiple chairs and sofas to curl up on making the room feel cozy amidst a sea side winter storm. The bed is super king, soft linens to touch, mattress is soft/medium, pillows feather, alternative and additional pillows available upon request. Bath robes and slippers included. The sea view from the room is idyllic, fully glazed from floor to ceiling allowing you to gaze across the English Chanel and surrounding pier landscape. Double doors open to a large balcony with full view of the coast. Improvement - addition to the room, include a luggage holder The Lobby: The entrance to the grand is always, grand. Door staff and concierge welcome you and immediately take your bags prior to check in. We stayed during the Christmas period, a large well decorated Christmas tree can be seen upon entering, the 7 storey swooping wooden staircase is decorated with garlands all the way up - the centre of attention. Upon reaching the 6th floor you can get a close look at the impressive glass dome roof. Room service: Easy to order via the in-room QR code. Orders go directly to the kitchen and are swiftly brought up by hotel staff. Delivered on large trays with aluminium plate covers, a smooth process. We ordered breakfast every morning during our 3 day stay. Consistently good food arriving in good time. Whatever we asked for the staff were attentive and brought to our room without hesitation, waters, coffee pods, fresh milk etc. Housekeeping; The room was immaculately clean, If like us you put your do not disturb sign on the door and you miss your room clean, housekeeping offer a short afternoon service until 3pm, where they will empty bins, offer more shower gel/shampoo and fresh towels. Location Great for seaside strolls, near the south lanes with plenty of shops, eateries and bars on your doorstep. Check out/check in times are less than generous; Check in 4pm Check out 11am (unwillingness to extend upon request) To conclude: An elegantly presented hotel, with fantastic views. Its downfall was not ensuring the room was up to standard prior to guest arrival. Location: 5/5 Check-in process: 5/5 Cleanliness: 5/5 Sleep: 5/5 Ambiance: 5/5 Room: 3/5 (due to issues outlined above) Room service: 5/5 Communication: 4/5 Value: 3/5 (due to issues outlined) We will be returning in March, same room type and hope for a better experience.

Definitely a treat rather than an everyday thing, but lived up to expectations as something a bit special. Beautiful hotel with lovely flowers and comfortable surroundings downstairs, and room great. Great cocktails in the bar and in the morning a sumptuous breakfast. Staff extremely helpful and courteous. Great location for the Lanes and beach/pier.
