Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Barry was the most welcoming host ever! He was very helpful, naturally pleasant and made us feel very at home from the get go! He should be a manager! We will definitely be staying here again and would love to see Barry again! Please hire more people like him.

Special treatment as a single female traveller. i booked many months ago through booking.com and paid for a single room for the weekend. Upon arrival was automatically updated to a spacious family room thanks to the lovely Monty on the front desk. The room is fresh and light, with all the little touches you like from a four star hotel.

I stayed for one night and was given a premium news room on the second floor. I was informed it was accessible by lift but then there were 10 steep steps to an attic style room which was a struggle with my suitcase. The room was pleasant with an en-suite shower. The carpet was worn and dirty and the net curtains were hanging off the hooks with stains that appeared to be blood. The room is overlooked by rooms opposite so it needed the net curtains. The bed was very hard as were the pillows but it was very quiet. Breakfast was adequate. Overall I’d say this could be a hood hotel but it needs money spent on it. Also the access is poor with steps to the entrance and no hand rail. I believe the parking is £28 per day at the rear of the hotel.

From the moment we arrived, Barry on reception made us feel incredibly welcome - he insured we were greeted with a free drink from the bar whilst they prepared our room, which was very much appreciated. The hotel is beautifully decorated and in an excellent location - we loved our sea view! Despite the rainy weather, our stay was perfect and we will always ensure that we come back and stay at The Mercure when we next visit Brighton. All staff were professional and warm, but we found ourselves looking forward to seeing Barry and having a chat with him - he ensured we had everything we needed and went above and beyond to help us make the best of our trip! We have never written a review on anything before, but with the excellent hospitality we received the last few days, we felt compelled to make sure we showed our gratitude - and to help others have as great an experience as us if they choose to visit!

From our first welcome, Barry at reception was amazing, he was really friendly and helpful! Unfortunately we travelled down for a funeral but he made us feel welcome and relaxed from the moment we stepped through the doors, even giving us a free drink from the bar! Our room was beautiful, clean and well stocked with a wonderful sea view, right on the main road in Brighton, despite the rainy weather. We would recommend this hotel for stays in Brighton. Although the hotel car park was full, Barry directed us to the Regency car park just down the road. It says it’s an 8 min walk but it only took us about 5 mins to walk down from the car park to the hotel.

I arrived her on the 20/2 to be greeted by Barry who instantly made us feel very welcome and couldn't do enough to help. He was very polite with a great sense of humour and needs to be promoted immediately. Staff like Barry are very hard to find and he's a complete assist to your hotel.

Forget any negative reviews of this place as they almost turned me off staying here - ok so the car park is tight - that’s easy to deal with. The rooms are amazing in every sense - clean and spacious with all you need. 109 if you’re keen is the best!!!!!!! Barry and Peach on arrival make it a fun experience and thereafter all staff are so professional and engaged. We ate at the bar as a conference was on and the food was 10/10 - good size meals and also absolute quality. Buffet breakfast was again well presented and every pre cooked meal perfectly cooked and warm. Being a Platinum member I stay in a load of Accor hotels and this one rates very highly and it’s a credit to the Mercure brand - be impressed.

After an exhausting day touring The Lanes, cafe and restaurants of Brighton, we were very disappointed to find our room unmade at 3.30pm. A call to Reception at 4.30pm didn't resolve the issue and only when I turned up, tired and angry, did our room finally get cleaned. Never staying there again!

A lovely stay, we were upgraded to the superior room, which was really nice. A stay here in the summer would be lovely. The only comments I would have is that you could hear reception/bar noise until 11pm, but was great apart from that :-) A really good stay.
