Nestled near Brighton's seafront, Drakes Hotel Brighton wins favor for its stellar location, with attractions like the pier and The Laines easily accessible. Many guests applaud the clean, stylish rooms and eco-conscious toiletries, though space can be tight and wet room showers may pose a challenge.
Visitors frequently commend the hotel's service, citing staff attentiveness as a highlight. While some guests find the additional costs, such as parking, worth the overall value, others advise caution with these extra charges.

Detailed Reviews
We paid for a seaview room which also has a bath and shower facility, high double bed well dressed and shutters as curtains/blinds.
The room as a wet room toilet which the downside of is the toilet roll gets wet after a shower and nothing can be left near the sink as this is the wet zone…I’m not a fan of wet room toilets but understand needs must.
The front was a little noisy at around 5am when the bin men came to empty the bins and sadly we chose a windy night where the winds were blowing and the rain lashing.
The hotel ‘likely’ has easy access rooms but otherwise it’s stairs. A small and pleasant bar on the ground level overlooking the pier and a breakfast room which is comfortable and modern.
Breakfast is an additional cost and sadly no Salmon available however for what we chose the food was excellent quality
Parking on the forecourt can be arranged at £15 per night
Staff are polite, friendly and professional and a credit to the Hotel
A star drop from a 5 star, as salmon can be bought from any local store so should not run out, the windows likely need some attention to sound proof a little better

Excellent stay.
It might be small and look like a Bed and Breakfast; it’s much more than that. It’s a proper hotel.
The rooms are very clean, well appointed and the hotel team really great. We will return for sure.
Every single one of the hotel staff were very welcoming, friendly and helpful.
The rooms have White Stuff toiletries, slippers, bathrobes. Little touches make a big difference.
Breakfast is good, wherever you eat it. Breakfast in bed is the same price as in the dining room; even that demonstrates the hotel puts guests first.
Great place to stay, great location, great staff. What else can I say?

Drakes Hotel is in an excellent location on Brighton seafront but near to Kemp Town. Inside was beautifully decorated and the lounge bar was very welcoming. When we arrived, we were shown a parking space and helped with our bag storage as our room wasn’t ready and we had a wedding to attend. We were given the key and filled in all the check in details so we wouldn’t have to do it later on in the evening.
Our room was on the second floor and there was no lift but the staff had put all our luggage in the room before we returned from the reception. When I booked the room I didn’t know I was going to be using a walking stick - our en suite bathroom was 8 steps down from our room. This did prove to be a challenge for me but thee wasn’t another room to which we could move. I did request a non slip mat for the bath as it was quite slippery; this was provided promptly.
The room was very comfortable with air conditioning which we did need as it was unusually hot for the time of year. The bed was very comfortable.
We stayed for 3 nights, just using the bar in the evening, going out for breakfasts as that provided by the hotel seemed a little expensive. There were plenty of places nearby for us to visit. On one evening we ate at The Olive Grove which served Greek tapas in very authentic surroundings. Another evening we ate at Cote Brasserie which was equally good - nowhere is too far away in Brighton and buses and taxis are plentiful.
During the daytime we went on an open topped bus tour, visited the Pavilion, went on the i360 and tried a few bars and pubs. It was a great few days.

This is a smart and good looking hotel. Service was off to a great start with some pre-booking arrangements for a planned birthday with a prompt and clear / helpful service. Check in was timely on the day and staff happy to hold luggage pre and post check in/out – that’s as much interaction as we had however; otherwise we felt a bit like a ‘ghost’ in the system. Bearing in mind there are current challenges re COVID - the restaurant is not opened for any food (breakfast is an order the night before / left outside the room in the am affair), although not sure why when had plenty of meals in other restaurants out and about in Brighton – we had min interaction with hotel staff. Again, not clear why, but there is no daily room service – staff simply leave everything outside the door every day so it’s the ‘little things’ e.g. topping up condiments / emptying bins etc. that are getting missed i.e. very much a DIY affair. The rooms are pretty but maybe a bit deceptive re space as the ‘ward robe’ is an electronic curtain (see pic) that hides the hangers on the walls so no real space for keep cases out of site; the bath in the bedroom is quirky but I doubt used much!!! Would we stay again, maybe, but it felt like we had been there for 4 days and no one even knew!

Response from Carla ter Maat, Sales at Drakes Hotel Brighton
Responded 4 Aug 2020
Dear kmcconville, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of your recent stay at Drakes. We understand your comments regarding the amount of interaction with the Staff and of course it is a very hard balance to strike during these worrying times caused by COVID. We are following the recommendations and guidlines of the Hospitality Industry body and all agree that the contact with others is best kept to a minimum in order not to risk transmitting the virus. This applies of course to our Guests as well as our Personnel. Because the virus can survive on hard and soft surfaces and is not just transmitted through contact, we are following the safety guidance of minimal contact, hence the decision not to enter occupied guest rooms. We agree this is far from ideal and does not reflect our usual service but it is necessary in order for us to operate safely and not put anyone at additional risk. The Bar has always been open to our Hotel Guests and since this week, now welcomes non residents also, but of course following strick social distancing measures. As the Gov't guidance has recently encouraged people to eat out, we are now serving Breakfast in the restaurant as well as still offering Room Service The Restaurant is closed as we are undergoing changes to the format and style of our offering. There will be a new Chef Owner taking over (hopefully by the end of August) which is the reason our restaurant is not currently open. It's all in motion but does take time to set up - especially in these current climes. We do hope that before long Hospitality businesses can return to providing a full service, once COVID is no longer a risk to the general public and we do hope to welcome you back in those better times, when the full Drakes experience, which is heavily customer focussed, can be offered! The Free standing baths are not suited to everyone, but we do also have several rooms with attractive traditional bathrooms, with shower over the baths. Do bear this in mind when you do book with us again (we sincerely hope so) and we will certainly ensure this style of room is allocated to you. Kind regards, The Team and Drakes

I booked this hotel for my husbands 40th birthday! We stayed here for 2 nights and was so impressed. We stayed in a sea view double room which had a free standing bath in the room as well as a wet room. The room was clean and comfortable! The pillows were particularly comfy and we slept well. The waffle robes, complimentary slippers and toiletries were of a very high standard.
Check in was easy and efficient, the staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is in the ideal position to be able to explore the surrounding areas! On night 2 we popped in to the bar for a nightcap and again the staff were so friendly and helpful.
We had breakfast at the hotel on our second morning. I had a traditional English breakfast and my husband had the eggs royal, both of which were delicious and could tell the ingredients were of a premium standard.
We had a great time here and would recommend to friends and family.

We stayed 3 nights at Drake's hotel. It has a lot if plus points, as other reviews indicate-clean, friendly staff etc. However, a staying on business which I had emailed in advance and then discussed at reception, we were put in room 303, which was so noisy on the first night we got no sleep. There were student parties, with tv loud noise talking, doors banging 2.30 until 4.30. When we raised it we were told the night porter did rounds but he had not, otherwise why the late night party. Why also put us near booking with multiple young people. Then the person booking us in didn't know whether breakfast was included or not. Advising us to take breakfast and see if we were charged. Cost for 3 nights in July was over £500 and for that it should be clear.
The rooms also need sound proofing as we knew when the person above us returned for the evening, when they got up, when the bathrooms were being used etc. For the price we paid, this was not 4 * hotel but more like an A level student party.
Couldn't commune ton breakfast as we didn't take it. Parking costs £15.
I'd go back for a drink or to eat at Amarillo, but not to stay. If you are a solo or business traveller, it is not for you.

A great location on the sea front, attic room is smaller than it looks in photos and you unbelievably have to climb through a window to access the balcony, parking around the corner from the hotel is £15 a night, 4 flights of stairs which are very tight and steep. I feel these things are either not mentioned on the hotels website or not very prominent. I think these are fair and accurate comments without malice.

Our room was small but filled with luxury and we couldn’t fault the comfort of the bed and linens. We also appreciated the tea tray and biscuits. Unfortunately, I mistakenly booked a sea view room (no 1) which had traffic and noisy people passing by all night long (it was a weekend) and it drove me crazy! The night watchman was very sympathetic and gave me a sleep kit with earplugs which did help. Why doesn’t the hotel put in triple glazing or at least some heavy drapes? I would also mention that the “wet” room gets very wet and the large rain head shower soaks the loo and surrounding area as mentioned in another review.

We have just returned home from a lovely 3 night stay. Shortly after our arrival we asked if there was a possibility of upgrading to a sea view room and the hotel were amazing and moved us straight away, nothing was too much trouble and the staff were extremely friendly and accommodating.
The room was very comfortable and the view was stunning. We were very lucky to see one of the most beautiful sunsets. The hotel is located on the main road which is how you get the amazing views. The windows are original sash windows with wooden shutters which are beautiful but obviously there is road noise. This didn’t bother us as we live on a main road and I think it’s a small price to pay for such lovely original features and a fantastic view.
Our room had a wet room with bath in the bedroom. This was a great feature to be able to sit in the bath and watch the World go by. It just needed us to be organised when using the shower which again was a small price to pay for being able to have a massive bath as well as rainfall shower in an affordable room.
The bed was extremely comfy and the feather pillows and duvet were really cosy. There was also access to Sky tv channels, sports and movies in the room.
The staff were happy to recommend restaurants for us and made fabulous recommendations for which we were very grateful! The breakfast was very good value, we opted for the full English and eggs royale which were both very tasty with quality ingredients.
In summary the hotel is a beautiful building, the staff were lovely and really friendly, the food was great and the bar was extremely well stocked. We would most certainly stay here again if we return to Brighton!!

We had a Red Letter Days voucher that we decided we wanted to use to stay at Drakes. We had huge issues booking online, but Anthony and Richard at the hotel were so helpful and patient and the booking experience with them was so easy. With such good service before we arrived, we had high hopes for our stay.
These were exceeded by an amazing stay in a wonderful hotel. We arrived early, several hours before check in and didn't expect to check in. but just wanted to park the car. The car parking space was just next door and is so convenient to the hotel. Despite arriving early, we were welcomed warmly and offered to leave our bags at the hotel - we declined as they were hidden in the car, but a good start.
It was during the heatwave and when we returned just after 2, my wife and i were so hot. Check in was simple and easy and we were given tips and suggestions of things we could do, nothing was too much trouble.
We were then shown to our room (302). The room was lovely, great furnishings, great decor and amazing air conditioning. The bath under the window was lovely. Seen a lot of negative reviews about the wet room. We had no issues - we removed the towels and toilet roll just in case, but the showers was lovely and the wet room is really well designed and installed - water drained away very quickly.
The hotel is just across from the promenade and conveniently located a short walk from the pier and the lanes.
Breakfast was included and was delicious. The first morning, we had it downstairs in the restaurant, and on our last morning we had breakfast in bed
Every member of staff we saw was helpful, friending polite and nothing seemed too much trouble.
We had a fantastic stay and would definitely stay again

Yes I think you can!
We didnt. The hotel has put them there. Though we did order a bottle of champagne for the room, donut might have been as a result of that.
3 pm check in i think, but can go earlier and they will store your bags. Its a fabulous place. Enjoy
Good morning,
