We arrived Friday 9th July. Sat and had a drink outside beautiful views . Nice campsite. Super clean toilets . Shop isn't a shop a few shelves in the reception. The restaurant wasn't open. No cash machine. Burger van omsite cash only. No dog friendly bar .all advertised. We left a day early. On return home I wrote a email expressing my disappointment in the no facilities . I had the opposite to the reviews I've just read this is why I'm posting mine. The response I got was fair and professional, the ladies who responded to me where very apologetic and polite .they offered me a credit which we've accepted and are going back in August. Don't be put off Hastings is a lovely little seaside place with charm if you look for it. The site is ideally situated and has very pretty views. Just make sure you bring cash and food if camping . We're looking forward to coming back. Oh and the 2 site men on campsite are very helpful and friendly.

We stayed here over the weekend and my children were riding their bikes not harming anyone or being a nuisance just riding up and down and one of the residents that live there threw dirty dog bowl water over my son as in the mans words he went on my grass(actually it’s a grass verge) my son was obviously upset and I told reception they told me security would come and sort it out no one bothered, I won’t be returning here that’s for sure no food on site rude residents staff don’t give a flying **** don’t waste your money !!!

We recently returned from a Monday to Friday break, staying in one of the lodges with a hot tub. Very nice views overlooking the sea and brilliant accommodation, which were both hard to fault. All of the staff we met were also friendly. We paid the equivalent of cruise prices for the stay, which we didn't have a problem with as it offered various facilities which would compliment our holiday. Unfortunately, several of these were unavailable, mainly the restaurant and tea room which were permanently closed. These closures also extended to the indoor pool. These were not pandemic affected, but in part I understand driven by staffing issues. Although I sympathise, it did detract from our overall experience and did in my view warrant a reduction in the overall cost. This was not reciprocated. By the time you read this review it may well be that the facilities have re-opened. But for us.although we enjoyed our visit, it was marred by the points raised and also by the unwillingness to even meet us half way in regards to being charged 100% of the cost despite the issues covered.

We have stayed on this site a few times so know about the narrow road but this time it seemed even worse, cars were parked all the way along the road making it very stressful getting past. We arrived on the touring field and found our pitch but got stuck in the mud. After trying to get free with the help of another camper the touring warden arrived then sent for someone with a 4x4 to pull us out. We were moved to another pitch. We found the touring warden very helpful and friendly. it looks like new shower blocks have been installed recently. But when I went into the toilets they were dirty (disgusting) the first time I used the shower I found there wasn't anywhere to put your toiletries and it was impossible to get dressed in the cubicle because the floor was so wet (the water was running out of the door). All weekend the toilets were dirty. Then when you come out of the shower block you come down the steps onto long grass. There needs to be a path to the road. Most of the time it was nice and quite but Saturday night we were disturbed by some idiot driving around shouting. On Sunday a group arrived they looked like travellers they were noisy from the time they arrived till late at night they spread out across the field they didn't seem to be on any particular pitch they even put washing lines up from the trees to the lamp post. We were happy to leave the following morning. Would we stay here again? I'm not sure.

This place is dreadful. No member of staff to welcome you, you are just emailed the barrier code and pitch number and expected to find your own pitch. No one visible on site either. Showers have no seating, even a small plastic stool would help those like myself with limited mobility. The water also pools between the shower and the door and there is no mop to clear it up. It is therefore difficult to keep your shoes and trousers dry while dressing. The worst was when I tried to leave and discovered my van was stuck in the mud on the dreadful wet pitch I had been allocated. It took 45 mins and 8 very helpful campers to get me out. When I went to reception to complain a very arrogant unpleasant woman said that they couldn’t be held responsible for the weather. No but any decent site would have appropriate drainage and not allocate extremely wet pitches to people when it’s been very wet!!!! Having someone to greet you which is normal on most sites would have avoided this problem. Yes I admit I lost my temper and swore at the very smug staff in reception but I think they should all be sent on a course on customer service and not be so arrogant and smug when dealing with customers. I see many other negative reviews on here and wish I had read them before booking.

Response from M C, General Manager at Shear Barn Holidays & Touring
Responded 2 weeks ago
Your review is completely discredited given the vulgar way you spoke to reception. Reception is operational 9am-5pm daily to greet our guests on arrival. Some guests prefer to go straight up to the touring field to pitch up and commence their holiday, others prefer to come into reception for assistance prior to pitching up. Throughout your stay there are touring wardens on-site until 5pm and from 5pm-2am we have on-site security. If you had alerted us of any issues on arrival or throughout your stay we would have been able to assist. Our team always try and do their best to help make our guest's stay as enjoyable as possible. However we were not notified of half of these issues, just that the grounds were wet, which is not avoidable when the weather is bad. We tried to discuss this with yourself, however could not get a word in edge-ways between the swearing and screaming at the top of your voice before you stormed out, and slammed the door with great force. We have never experienced such an unprovoked incident of rage and cannot say this is an accurate representation of your experience, based on you screaming at us that you would leave a bad review unless we refunded you for your stay.
