Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

“Relaxing brings weakness, when done by a muscle; but brings strength, when done by a person.” ― Mokokoma Mokhonoana From our arrival, we were welcomed like returning friends and immediately felt right at home. Paul and Alan were the perfect hosts: showing us around the beautiful Saltcote Place whilst also suggesting activities in Rye itself. Their warmth and attention to detail made the whole stay relaxing and effortless, which was exactly what we were in need of, and our brief stay seemed to pass all too quickly. I for one will miss the incredible three course breakfasts lovingly prepared in the 'secret' kitchen. Don't take my word for it though. Visit yourself and you'll see!

The short version - Alan and Paul were absolutely fabulous hosts in a truly wonderful house. Make sure you go there! We stayed Friday night to Sunday morning. The weekend away was a gift from our sons and heaven knows how they found it. It was an amazing treat. Our hosts’ attention to detail is second to none. A fantastic breakfast to start your day and then a nightcap waiting for you at the end of the day. Perfect. Ensure Alan gives you a tour of the rest of the house; you will be rewarded by walking through wonderful rooms furnished with love over a lifetime of collecting beautiful things. I could go on… Rye is a lovely quirky place with plenty to do in a weekend so make sure you treat yourself by staying here!

Saltcote Place is magical! The moment we pulled up to the gate, we realized we were staying at an extraordinary place. The house and grounds are beautiful with bright cheery rooms and gorgeous views. The kitchen/dining area where breakfast was served had me wanting to duplicate it for my own home. The breakfast itself was high quality, delicious and beautifully presented. We’ve noticed that at some hotels in England, even those with four and five stars, the plumbing in the showers isn’t great. The Saltcote had the nicest showers with plenty of water pressure and hot water. Finally, we loved our hosts, Paul and Alan. Not only did they ensure that every detail for our comfort was attended to, they were the most pleasant, fun and all around delightful gentlemen. We would love to return to Saltcote Place.

The breakfast choice was very wide and all options were excellent and beautifully presented. Fresh fruit, a variety of egg and full breakfast options were available as well as juice and barista coffee. Paul and Alan are both the most excellent hosts and we were made to feel very much at home. The location is superb and we were delighted with the building and grounds. Very convenient for Rye and offering superb views of the surrounding countryside.

My wife and I recently stayed at Saltcote. Our hosts Alan and Paul were absolutely wonderful. Our expectations were exceeded in the areas of accommodations, meals, dining recommendations and suggestions for hiking and local points of interest. What really made the stay exceptional in addition to all of the above was how personable, knowledgeable and absolutely humorous Alan and Paul were. Our only regret was that we had not visited years ago.

we were astonished, first drving a beautiful lane and entering the gate of this lovely located estate. Being welcomed by our host Paul and treated on a welcome drink after entering the spacious kitchen, feels like a warm blanket. Paul informed us about the places worth visiting and local restaurants before we were escorted to the Amberley Suite. The center of Rye is less than ten minutes walk, which is very convenient. Alan prepares the breakfast as you wish and Paul is the perfect host with a fine sense of humor. I'd liked his phrase when we were in the garden looking at the sea "on a bad day, you can France" Paul and Alan thanks for your hospitality and that we had the oppurtunity to stay at your nicely decorated and well maintained property. All the best for the future Helma and Peter

We booked a 3 night Monday-Thursday stay after finding Saltcote from previous reviews. Very pleased we did choose here as the reviews were spot on! We were looking for a spot of luxury with a personal touch and a spot of peace and quiet that wasn’t too far away from the centre of Rye. A welcome drink upon arrival with a lovely getting to know you chat, we were given helpful information about the locality - restaurants and places to visit - before being escorted to our rooms and we were ready to enjoy our break! Just a few minutes walk from all the local amenities, but with the peace and quiet up on the hill, giving us the feeling of being miles away was a real joy. The hospitality of our hosts was exceptional, personal touches, engaging conversation and a great sense of humour and warmth throughout. The mansion itself was beautiful with lovely gardens and stunning views, our rooms similarly so, clean, well stocked and with the quietest fridge in our room I’ve never heard - made the trip perfect! The breakfasts were very personal and cooked to perfection, with a glass of bubbly if so wished. Wish we’d found this place years ago and will certainly be going back in the foreseeable future.

This was our first experience of this amazing place and having read all the previous reviews we can say they are absolutely correct. From the moment you arrive to the time of your departure, Paul and Alan make you feel very welcome. The welcome glass of wine when you arrive, the night cap of brandy and whisky and the bubbles with breakfast all added a touch of glamour to our stay in an exceptional house and grounds. If you have the chance, we recommend you stay there as it is a unique and exceptional experience. Thank you Paul and Alan!

We wanted to visit East Sussex after a few years vacationing in historic manors and B&B’s in the Cotswolds. Rye and Saltcote Manor did not disappoint. The grounds are impressive and impeccable, with sweeping views of Rye Bay and the English Channel. The manor itself, however, is the real jewel. The whole complex has been rehabbed over the last few years, and it shows in the rooms and public areas. Modern bathrooms and electrics are important luxuries when visiting these historic manors, and Saltcote has them. Even the walls, floors and ceilings all look brand new, which is unusual for a manor this size and age. We also loved exploring the village of Rye and chatting with residents and shop owners. Restaurants, antique and art stores are everywhere in this charming village. We also visited Canterbury, which is an hour away and definitely worth a day trip. Lastly, but in no way the least, the hosts Paul and Alan were the absolute best. Very interesting and gracious, but never overbearing, they have hosting down to an art. My wife and I will miss chatting with them until our next visit, which will be soon!
