Lovely stay at the George. Lovely room 17 overlooking the High Street, with a great comfy bed and a super bathroom housing a separate shower and bath. It was a bit noisy in the mornings but really no trouble we slept very well, and if you get such a great central location there is bound to be a bit of street noise. Did not use bar or restaurant as Rye has so much choice for food and drink, but front of house staff were lovely and very helpful. No parking but market and station car parks close and reasonably priced. We used the station car park and bought a week's parking for £15 as it seemed the best option as market car park closed to cars on Wednesday nights and all day Thursday, and then we did not have to move the car. There are unloading bays immediately outside for dropping of and picking up luggage. Highly recommend Rye for a short break with plenty to see and do, good bars/restaurants, and the bonus of a short drive to Camber sands with its great beach.

Dear shingers - Thank you for taking your time and giving us feedback of your stay. We are delighted you enjoyed the room facilities. Rye does have its moments being a bit noisy on the high street, but rarity. There are plenty of places to visit in Rye and the surrounding area. The sandy Camber beach just a few miles away is worth visiting. Thank you and we hope to see you in the near future. Kind regards, Miles S

Stayed a night here on our Cantii Way cycle tour challenge around Kent and East Sussex, and it turned out to be one of the highlights of the trip.

Lovely rooms, extremely helpful and friendly staff, welcoming bar areas and delicious food.

The fish stew was probably the nicest I’ve had, thick rich sauce and tender plentiful fish and seafood - I am salivating at the memory of it. The breakfast was equally superb.

What I particularly liked was that although the location of the George was bang in the centre of Rye - a huge plus - our rooms were extremely quiet.

The George had the look and feel of an upmarket establishment yet what we paid was extremely good value, costing not much more than a run of the mill pub we had stayed in the night before. I have booked to return in February, this time without the bike and Lycra!

If you do visit by bike however I would recommend to you choose either Rooms 1 and/or 2. There you will be close to your bike, although having said that the area we stored them in felt pretty secure.

Great stay - really lovely atmosphere and wonderful staff to welcome us as well as making recommendations for our stay in Rye. Special thanks to the wonderful male bartender who made our cocktails on Monday night - he was really chatty and made us feel welcome. We had requested to not have a room with low ceilings and this was accommodated as we were upgraded to a superior room; we are so thankful for this, as the extra space was appreciated! The hotel has undergone a huge refurb since the fire and things still smelled new and fresh. Although the hotel wasn’t busy, it still felt quite lively.

Note - the restaurant is not open on Mondays and Tuesdays. I feel this needs to be made more clear to guests either upon arrival or on the website. We found out by accident before we got there and we didn’t mind as we’d managed to make other arrangements, but loads of Rye restaurants are also shut on a Monday and Tuesday so we saw lots of people being turned away from restaurants in the evening.

We would definitely return and book a bigger room. Our room (35) was lovely and we’d love to see others in the same category as no two rooms are the same.

Mixed feelings about The George to be honest. Lovely location easy to access everything else. Arrived about 6pm Friday no one on reception patiently waited we did receive a friendly welcome. Chap carried my bag and my husband followed. we were taken outside past the outdoor tables to room 43. Look at my photos it's in The Sailors building opposite Boots all connected though.

Room was pleasant a green theme going on no air con put the sash windows up not too noisy fortunately.

Found the tea and coffees in a wooden box in the bottom of the wardrobe it does tell you on a leaflet we read afterwards. there's nowhere to put them so they went under the table the kettle was on. Adequate sachets though a fridge would be nice with milk and bottled water. There was water provided but it was warm

We had pre booked dinner for 7:30 went to the bar first, two members of staff on but one guy was making several cocktails unfortunately they are time consuming so we waited and waited and eventually were served a good 10 minutes later. Can't be helped I know but a pain. Bonus points for alcohol free gin well done!!

We looked at the menu a small one but a good choice we had Gambas and my husband had soup both opted for Rib eye steak with chips perfectly cooked but quite pricey I felt especially with 12.5% on top. The waiter who served us with lethargic no enthusiasm which was a shame as he was really nice.

We hadvtwo nights here as we went to Cherry Barn Pea Marsh for a wedding book taxi's we'll in advance we couldn't get anything.

Great breakfast I had scrambled eggs with avocado on toast then spinach has with bacon. More fresh fruit would ne nice.

All in all a nice stay but pricey Rye is fabulous for a weekend. Visited Lamb House, church Yores Tower and Micro pub.

The rooms are beautiful and we were upgraded to a luxury room to accommodate our cot. The hotel were great with our baby, offering to keep our pram downstairs for us and providing us with high chair in the restaurant.

I would agree that some of the staff are clearly still in training and that a few things were surprising (like them not knowing which bus to get to camber sands or how to make a Bellini when it was on the menu) but where possible staff were very helpful and friendly.

The rooms have enormous very comfy beds, TV where you can use all your accounts and be logged out automatically, tea and coffee and lovely fluffy dressing gowns. I would have liked some bubble bath not just shower gel though, as there was a bath, and body lotion, not just hand. But otherwise they were so beautiful decorated and comfortable in a really quirky but luxurious way.

Food at the. Restaurant was delicious, we had steak to share and jt was very nicely cooked and the breakfast, whilst expensive at £15 each, is all you can eat including cooked.

A wonderful stay, would definitely return.

Our first stay at The George since its refurbishment following the terrible fire. The hotel is even better than before. The public areas and rooms have all been restored to a very high standard and very tastefully done. Bedroom was very well appointed with lovely firm bed and big bathroom. The staff are brilliant too and special mention must be made to Anna in the restaurant (what a star!) and to Lisa on reception.

Great start well kept building great obeisance greeted by polite well dressed waiters shown to our table comfy good view of the street high ceilings low noise smart restaurant.
Menu was disappointing for a vegetarian
No mains for a vegetarian
Lucky I eat some fish and had two starters one as a main
The scollops were amazing well cooked presented and tasty
The main I ordered was a butternut squash and cale salad 🤷‍♀️ it was warm but the cale was so undercooked was in eatable chewy hence not good! It was replaced and slightly more cooked but still very tough.
My husband had fish and chips which looked delicious.
We didn’t have a desert had coffee instead which was fine.
Great chatty waiters no waitresses
No parking here but pay and display on the street which is free after 6pm.
I probably wouldn’t return as there is better in rye with more vegetarian choose.

This genuinely saddens me to write this review. I considered not sharing it, but am so disappointed that I felt it only fair to warn others. For context we have stayed and eaten at the George multiple times over the years and have loved it. We had, until this recent stay, even considered having our wedding there.

We stayed last Friday night, and ate at the restaurant. The staff, bar, service food etc was all generally underwhelming. Far removed from our experiences previously.

However, the real issue was that when we returned to our room after dinner and drinks, the room absolutely stank of chip fat! I really can’t do the smell justice, you’ll need to take my word for it. But if you imagine being sealed inside a commercial kitchen with no ventilation that exclusively fires food in a deep fat fryer, you’ll be somewhere close to the oder saturating the room and everything/everyone in it. I can only assume there was an issue with the extractor fan, which was roaring loudly somewhere close by.

Neighbouring rooms were also complaining to a member of staff when we arrived back at our room. We were in room 21, and upgraded suite of some sort, costing north of 400 per night.

In summary we were forced to leave the room at 11:00 PM and drive over an hour home, as staying in the room was not feasible. The singular member of staff on reception assured us there was no other rooms available. Apologetic though she was, she had no solution or authority etc and assured us that the manager, her boss, would call us in the morning to ‘make it right’. She said they had been having complaints before about the issue, but “never our particular room, and never that bad”.

We are now 1 week on and we have still not heard from the George in any capacity to offer any sort of apology or gesture.

The whole evening was kind of surreal, set against the background of our previous stays. But far more disappointing was the follow up. Clearly the George cares little for their guests experience. We won’t be returning and will advise family and friends to stay away also.

The George was recommended by a friend who had not been to the hotel since the refurbishment and we have just returned after a 2 night stay which was very disappointing. The room was fine with new decor appropriate to the building and the staff were friendly and obliging but mostly seemed very in experienced and were for ever apologising for all the problems which were mainly restaurant based. We were told the restaurant would not be open on our first night but when we returned from eating elsewhere it obviously was open. On the second night we were offered a table wedged between others, then one directly beneath very cold air conditioning and finally in the less attractive overflow room. There were several problems with the food and service including no finger bowl with shelled prawns, under cooked prawns and uncooked rhubarb in the dessert. There was always an immediate attempt to correct what could be corrected and a small reduction in the bill but a meal which we had been looking forward to was definitely a disappointment as was breakfast on the second day with overcooked bacon and a solid poached egg. Hopefully things will improve as the staff gain experience but it was definitely not the experience we had expected.

This was the first time we have stayed at the George in Rye and on first impressions the Hotel looks nice.
We were given an upgrade to a junior suite which was room 32. On entering the room it seemed nice, clean and of a good standard.
Sadly though, this room was responsible for the worst nights sleep i and my partner have ever experienced in a hotel, and we woke up feeling deprived of sleep.
The room had a constant high pitched humming which was coming from an extractor fan. It was like trying to sleep with the worst ringing tinnitus in your ears and it was constant all night!
Then at 5am in the morning we noticed the three sky lights in the room had gaps around the edges of the blinds which let light burst into the room. This meant that neither of us got a wink of sleep!
On further inspection in the morning, the room is next to the kitchen and I would assume the high pitched humming was coming from the kitchen extractor fans that had been running all night!
The next morning we mentioned this to a staff member at breakfast and they simply apologised and did nothing more.
On checking out, it was so rushed that we weren’t even asked how our stay was and so had no opportunity to feedback about the terrible nights sleep due to the issues we experienced.

We were also a bit shocked that the barman on the main bar the evening before told us that he couldn’t do Irish coffees, yet was making espresso martinis for fun. They have a proper coffee machine in the bar area, which left us confused as at breakfast it was an awful automatic coffee machine and not freshly made.

All in all the hotel is nice and the rooms are nice, but if you want a good nights sleep, room 32 is not the place to be!

Hi the thing is I always bring my own hairdryer. That being said I think there was one available in the room. As a matter of principle in that category of hotels you can always ask for one to the reception if you need it. The hotel is a really nice property to stay !
