We had a lovely family meal this evening. The service was really very good indeed.

The staff have a handle on the social distancing while keeping it low key but safe too.

We had the 8oz Duke Burger, which is served with a decent side salad and chunky but crisp chips. We also tried the Gammon , the house curry and the Mozzarella Sticks which was a generous portion size, and came with a nice fresh salad.

My partner booked the hotel the day before our arrival for a much needed escape for a couple of days. On arrival we found out that due to the covid thing the car park was closed so we were guided to a British Legion car park which was a short walk from the hotel, and no problems there. We checked in, and decided to chill in the beer garden with a few glasses of wine. It's a great spot, with the stream running through it, and the weather was just right for it as well. We then retired to our room to ready ourselves for our pre booked evening meal. The room was not the biggest but was clean and came with an ensuite, with a shower. Only issue I had was I had to hold the toilet seat up as it wouldnt stay up. Minor irritation tbh. Was nice to sleep in with the sound of the river running outside.
Due to Covid restrictions, the bar could only have one bar person serving drinks, which caused a bit of a wait for them to be delivered to the tables, but the staff could as well as could be expected and were all a credit in rather exceptional circumstances, and they were all very friendly. I had the gammon, new potatoes and peas, which was very nice, my partner enjoyed her chicken burger and chips as well. Again due to Covid, the bar closed around 21.45, but we were able to purchase a drink to take up stairs with us for a small nightcap.
The following morning we both had a Full English, and again no complaints at all, it set us up nicely for the drive back to Southampton.
All in all, we thoroughly enjoyed our short break away, to a lovely, clearly popular traditional English village. We will not hesitate in staying at The Duke again when we return.

Our Granddaughter booked the family in to the Duke of Wellington,
after a tour round the Cotswolds, we had rooms 3..4. and 5 very comfortable all rooms en-suite. The rooms were clean & tidy, with fresh linens and towels, the bar had friendly
staff where we had a quiet drink.
Breakfast was our choice a full English
which was very tasty and hot, washed down with tea and coffee, and the pots were refilled.
Will definitely stay there again

We stayed here on a Saturday night. A terrible check in in the afternoon heat, they made us queue in the street with people on day trips trying to get a table for drinks (no separate check in for quests). A very unwelcome feeling all round. The table service was appalling, once you waited god knows how long to get served you then waited another 15 minutes for your drinks to arrive. The outside garden is very untidy with stinging nettles, weeds, broken benches and umbrellas, just generally unsightly and unkept. Which is a shame as it could be a very nice place.

The service for the breakfast the following morning, which was being served by the cleaner may I add....was that bad we got up and walked out to find a local cafe. She come up to our table and asked if we wanted tea or coffee.. we had to ask for a menu. No dairy free whatsoever, so for anyone allergic to dairy don’t bother!
The table beside us asked for a cappuccino and the cleaner/waitress said “I don’t know how to make that”. Only two options for cereal, cornflakes and Alpen!

Also a very limited menu for any kind of food!
I asked for a pimms in the evening and it got served with a slice of lime and lemon.. no mint no fresh fruit. The bar shuts by 10pm.. even for residents, no back ground music, no ambience and definitely no hospitality! They forgot our faces every time we spoke to them.. and had to remind them we were staying quests and was told that we would get priority on available tables inside. Yet we had to keep asking for one inside once it got cold outside.

Parking is a nightmare! There is none! They need to make sure they let their staying quests aware of this! We had to park in the coach car park!
They need to up their food menu even with the situation everyone is in at the moment it’s no excuse as other places in the village are managing it fine!

The room was tiny but this wasn’t our issue with this place. A small room in a small village is to be expected. Ok the rooms aren’t great with a tiny tv and a shabby bathroom, it was tidy.. not the cleanest but just tidy. But it’s their customer service skills for staying customers and their hospitality that is awful and what let’s this place down.

We never once got asked how our stay was, no thanks, no goodbye, nothing. We hung on to see if they could at least redeem themselves. So we left the key on the side before we walked out early the next morning.

It’s such a shame as it’s a lovely little area with the river running through but do yourself a favour and please book elsewhere!

Had a meal today. Terrible. Firstly the waiter's pen ran out whilst about to take our offer. Said he would return but never came back. My son ordered mozzarella strips with chips as a main because the menu said it came with sweet chilli sauce and he loves this. It turned up without any sweet chilli sauce and when I queried it I was told they had ran out. You need to tell me that when I order!! We could then have opted for something else. I ordered the haddock goujon starter to come out with my main. It was advertised as coming with tartare sauce. It didn't, I asked and I was given 2 little sachets of tartate sauce. Actually this turned out to be enough as the £6.95 starter of haddock goujon was only 3 finger sized pieces + one more the size of a grape. I know we only paid half the £6.95 under the government eat out scheme, so either the 3 pieces for £6.95 is terrible or if they are reducing portion size when people order under the government supported 50% off scheme this is completely wrong!

Cons.
Very disappointing overall.
Given room 5 which was over the noisy bar, so disturbing us at bedtime.
Meal lamb casserole very greasy and little meat.
Cold areas in pub, tried to sit by fire but music speaker too loud.
Family run noisy and chaotic, poor organisation of table settings at breakfast.
So much ‘ stuff ‘ everywhere, just clutter. The abandoned vacuum and its cord were a safety hazard by the bar, where breakfast is served. The bar itself had cleaning materials on it along side an open staff handbag which was on show during our breakfast.
The downstairs pub area is quite shabby and worn.
Rather amateurish on the B&B side of the business.

Room 5. Small.
Dated furniture, hard crunchy bed, handle fell off wardrobe, physically had to move drawers to plug in TV behind them, no instructions to turn TV on, staff member said for us to just clip handle back on wardrobe!
Small en-suite shower room, no hooks or rails for towels, no drinking glasses.
Macerater system noisy during use of the toilet and taps together and continuous when light turned on and whilst water draining.
Sink tap stiff with lime scale, faulty plug system, poor drainage.
Old metal framed window very draughty, had to block with curtains.
Glancing at the other rooms, they seemed nicer with more space than room 5. We felt we’d been put in there because we had a dog. Poor finish in en-suite ceiling.

Pros.
Pub location very accessible to town, small car park.
Staff friendly and helpful, small charge for our dog acceptable.
They ensured we were kept warm in the dining area and bedroom.
The upstairs was nicely decorated.
Shower pressure good.

Just had chicken and beef burgers here with a few starters and drinks.
Very bad and truly Tasteless.
Tough chicken, dry buns and one tiny piece of bacon on top 😂

Definitely not value for money. Go elsewhere!!! I wish we did.

Stayed one night whilst attending wedding down the road. Hannah excelled by taking us to venue when unable to book local taxi. Breakfast was lovely and cooked fresh - asked for veggie breakfast as not on menu, but chef happy to oblige.

We went for a quick drink and lunch after a long walk. We had a drink when we arrived and some simple but tasty food which hit the spot. We put everything on a tab and my hubby paid the bill. Afterwards he thought he had paid too much so rang the pub who kindly checked, identified the error and were very apologetic. Dee was incredibly helpful and arranged to repay the oversight immediately. Can't fault them!

Me and my partner stayed here the weekend before Christmas to have a nice break before the festivities began at home. The room was nice...small, but nice. Two issues we found was the shower was a little urgent as you couldn’t move the head and couldn’t change the pressure. Also our windows were always soaked in condensation.
The restaurant was great! They do a two course plan for staying guests for £15. The manager was really lovely and friendly, also special shout out to waitress/bar staff DeeDee. The ordering requires you to go up to the bar and order, but DeeDee usually came up and asked what we wanted as bar did become quite busy at times and then I’d be waiting at the bar while my partner sat by herself watching me haha!
Breakfast was very good and very quickly and the chef was a happy fella too!

We are going back for a long weekend in May for my partners birthday. So I can give another review then to see if it’s consistent.
