This was just a one night stay, so we booked an urban room. The room was very small but it was all we needed and beautifully decorated in the house style of dark blue paint. The room and the very smart shower room were immaculate, very clean indeed. The rooms now have the much requested kettles and tea/coffee. A very nice touch is that the rooms have black out curtains, it was very quiet at night so we had a very good night's sleep - beautifully comfortable bed.

As we booked on the hotel website our cooked breakfast was included, the staff in the diner were very friendly and attentive. The juice was freshly pressed and fruit plate had nice selection of freshly cut items. And the coffee is good!

We had anticipated parking difficulties from the other reviews so booked a space on a local driveway via a parking app - better idea than paying for long term in the public car park over the road.

All the staff we met were friendly and efficient, good Covid precautions in place we would certainly return in future.

Second time we've stayed here in the last few months, great town centre location for what we wanted. Love everything that the hotel offers, we've stayed in a Culture room that offers space but on this occasion we had an Urban room on the top floor at the rear. Same quality throughout, excellent soft towels and the shower toiletries are of fab quality especially the body lotion that my wife loved. The bed and the pillows are the comfiest I've slept in at any hotel.
Breakfast is continental and plentiful this is served in a spacious diner that was once the cellars of these fine Georgian houses, hot breakfast option at a small charge.
Parking is free but only limited at the hotel, we managed to park....if not there is a car park a short walk and we paid £10 for 24 hrs on our first visit
Saved the best till last and these are the STAFF, very friendly and attentive...Top marks.

Firstly, it is a BEAUTIFUL hotel... sometimes a place doesn’t live up to the pics but this definitely delivers on decor. All the staff are generally friendly and the continental breakfast is lovely. However there are a few things that we wish we’d known in advance, (and for reference we stayed in a Superior King room). Parking is very limited, and if you don’t get one of the 15 spots each day then you need to park in a pay and display across the road which was £12 a day. There is no fridge, kettle, coffee/tea in the room. There was also bizarrely no drawers or cupboards in our room, just a wardrobe but that didn’t have any shelves in it to put clothes or shoes on - just 5 hangers so for us (two people staying for a week) we didn’t really have anywhere to put our clothes so couldn’t really unpack. Continental breakfast is nice but cooked breakfast is more expensive than what I would generally consider a “supplement” as advertised (£14 for a full English). There’s also no lift which is explainable because it’s an old listed building but just be aware of that as an FYI. Also the fire alarm kept going off at random times for a second or two, and once this happened at about 6am. There was no phone in the room either to contact reception if you had any queries (like do we need to evacuate as the alarm is going off sporadically!). So in summary the room looked lovely but just felt a bit unfinished.

If you’re staying somewhere for a couple of nights it’s really nice and well priced, but it didn’t have the necessary amenities to make it feel comfortable to stay for much longer. It is really new so hopefully they’ll sort some of these aspects out :)

Hi Hollyr442, Thank you for taking the time to leave us a review. We are so pleased to hear you loved the decor, and continental breakfast offering! I will be sure to pass your kind words on to the team. Due to our central location, parking is limited and is on a first come first served basis, however our Front of House team are on hand to offer tips and advice on where to park. In terms of the room, we are currently reviewing our tea and coffee making facilities, and have passed your feedback on regarding clothes storage. We are so sorry about the incident with the fire alarm, unfortunately we did encounter a fault with the panel, a member of staff was station at the panel at all times and an engineer was called as soon as possible to ensure this caused the least inconvenience for guest, we do however understand it is not ideal and please do accept my sincerest apologies. We really do hope to welcome you back again! Best Wishes,

Booked to stay here for one night as a short city break with my partner, the location was good, only a short walk to the city centre, and all the staff we encountered were really friendly, however the room in our opinion could be improved.

Firstly, we were put in room nine, Which after reading a few other reviews about this room, I wish we had specifically asked not to be put in there! Its on the ground floor only a few meters away from the reception, no sound proofing, and you can hear every single conversation (and they could probably hear ours too!) Had we been staying for more than a night we would have asked to change rooms.

Our room didn’t feel as clean as we may have liked, we noticed that when we lifted the throw off the bed, it threw a huge pile of dust in to the air, leaving us wondering when the room was last used and when it was last dusted. When we used the shower it would have a ten second burst of scalding hot water about once every minute meaning we’d have to jump out to avoid burning ourselves. The room itself was also very dark and almost felt slightly run down.

One benefit we enjoyed was that the room had a smart tv meaning we could watch Netflix and catch up tv, which we enjoyed. Overall it was fine for a one night stay however personally wouldn’t book again, I feel like you can find a similar standard in premier inn or other budget hotels for a lower price.

We stayed for two nights at the George and had a mixed experience.

On the plus side, the hotel is in a great location, the staff were friendly and all decor, furnishings and finishes were brand new.

Sadly, our room at the front of the hotel suffered from a lot of road noise and, despite paying for 2 upgrades, storage space was so inadequate that we could not unpack our suitcase so we never felt settled in. To be specific, the wardrobe was tiny and only had hanging space. There were no drawers in the room and nowhere in the bathroom to put toiletries.

Although drinks were available in the basement pantry, it was disappointing that we could not make a hot drink in our room.

The property comprises 4 houses knocked together and we found the layout of endless dark corridors and steep, narrow staircases difficult to negotiate. Some signs highlighting the route to reception would have enhanced our stay.

Despite our 2 upgrades, our room rate only included a continental breakfast. A further payment was required for a cooked breakfast.

We also struggled to find the swimming pool and gym which were advertised on the hotel’s trip advisor listing at the time of our booking.

Overall, we felt it was a shame that the recent period of lockdown closure had not been used to rectify the hotel’s shortcomings.

The room we booked was described as "edgy". it was a basement room with a view of a tiny front area, and the only edgy thing I could see was the "Victorian" enamel bucket under the wash basin, presumably because it was leaking.
The air con spewed out cold air, and we couldn't work out how to change that, in spite of turning the desired temp up several degrees, when it continued to spew out very cold air. There is no phone in the room to contact reception. I went up there in person to ask about this, and there was no-one there.
I had forgotten my toothbrush, so I asked for one at reception, was given a couple in a box (cost: about £1.50 in a chemist). Imagine my astonishment when I was charged £3 for this. I remonstrated, suggesting that a hotel might be expected to provide this free of charge, but I had to pay. There was no fresh orange juice for breakfast (the machine needed parts (!?) but instead of the staff simply pressing a few oranges, they had provided a jug of something closely resembling orange squash.
All in all, not recommended at all.

I have just returned from a two night stay at The George. What a beautiful hotel! Bang up to date on aesthetic and a very comfortable feel. Staying during COVID so first thing on entering the hotel was to use the hand sanitizer. Self check-in available on front desk, but also lovely friendly staff. I had a problem with the lights in my first room but I was very quickly dealt with and I was given another room. Gorgeous decor and furnishings in the bedroom and bathroom. Very comfortable bed and high quality linen and thick fluffy towels. Also gorgeous toiletries. Iron, safe, Babyliss hairdryer, good size telly and glasses in the room. No tea and coffee in room but unlimited Complimentary tea and coffee etc available from the downstairs diner at any time. Free parking at the reverse of the hotel on a first come first served basis. I did not have breakfast included in my price but the breakfast area and diner were very nice as we all of the public areas and toilets. I would highly recommend this hotel for business or leisure stays as it’s only a 5 minute walk from the town centre shops, bars and restaurants and lovely parks.

Great location and easy friendly check in
Stayed in room (18) ground floor front of hotel. Traffic noise light and privacy ensured with thick blackout curtains
Room large and very clean with superb facilities Large king sized bed made for a comfortable night. Shower was amazing along with complimentary first rate toiletries
Staff here couldn’t have been better and although we had to wait for our chosen cooked breakfast it was so definitely worth the wait. Big thanks to you all for your hard work but for making our one night stop over in Cheltenham a big hit. We will be back.
The one downside is the parking. There was very little space outside the hotel and the car park as mentioned in the website was closed ( ? permanent). Definitely worth booking a car park space prior to arrival

Fabulous room, fabulous breakfast in an ideal location. We nearly booked to stay at no. 131 but this seemed quieter and better priced. Recommend booking through the hotel website as we got a cooked breakfast included and 1pm checkout. It is in a perfect location, easy to walk to shops and restaurants but away from the noise of local pubs and bars. Stayed in the culture room that was stunning. A selection of wine glasses in the room is a nice touch and the concept of the Pantry (especially in Covid times) is welcome. We arrived at 3pm and got a parking space at the hotel but there is a car park opposite as back up if needed. The breakfast was the best I have had for a long time. Freshly squeezed orange juice was delicious, choice of vegetarian and meaty dishes, coconut yogurt, pastries, different coffee options. We didn’t take advantage of the gym offer at the local Ladies College but will do this next time. My advice is book now if you are reading this review.

Great location. Lovely room with bouji vibes. Bathroom very chic. Bit pricey but very enjoyable. Bit steep on top of £225 per night had to pay £14 per person fir a cooked breakfast. Service from all staff during the day great, faultless. Pm not quite the same. Returned after being out for dinner wanting ice was sent a bucket that looked like it was the residue of someone else’s wine bucket. Tried to contact service via the phone, no answer , had to leave message with no response ended up we had to hunt the night Porter who had left reception found in the dining room to get ice. Would have like to have had some water in the room for arrival or a fridge hence the need to play hide and seek.
Rooms are stunning. Would return

Hello.....I found everything I needed to make a hot drink in my room. Anything you need, all you have to do is ask at reception. There is a car park at the back of the hotel. As I did not bring a car, I am not aware if you need to book a space. There appeared to be plenty of bays. There is no charge for parking I believe. Due to the age and design of the building, it has loads of stairs to get to anywhere., which would not work for anyone with a mobility disability!! The dining room is fabulous but is only open for breakfast....at least when I stayed. It is down in the basement. I hope you enjoy your stay if you decide it is suitable for you.

We arrived with 4 other couples from Cheltenham Racecourse. Although we were first, all 4 couples were told there was no parking at the hotel. How ever many spaces they had were full. This meant parking across the road at a cost of £14 for the night. The hotel advertises there IS parking.

Hi Helen, We do not have a bar at the George however, No.131 our sister Property is just around the corner from the Hotel and serves all day. There is a pantry at the George where guests can purchase drinks and snacks at anytime. I hope this helps and that we see you soon. Best, Laura
