No.131 is a trio of beautiful Georgian townhouses set on the promenade in the heart of Cheltenham. Classic on the outside, contemporary British on the inside, this home from home provides the perfect balance of sophistication and fun. Opened in 2013, the main house hums with activity throughout the day, especially with its eat like a local 131 Terrace Restaurant serving brasserie style breakfast, lunch and dinner. On the upper ground floor, you'll find the newly opened YOKU Japanese sushi dining restaurant and Bar Tokyo. The 11 individually designed and spacious bedrooms grace the floor above and provide intimate hideaways for those in the know. Downstairs discover our Gin and Juice bar, our own little den of iniquity, strong house cocktails, over 400 gins on the menu to work your way through and open until late over the weekends with the best DJs in town. In March 2019, No.131 expanded into the Georgian townhouse next door. Named 'The House', this immaculately restored new opening added 8 individually designed bedrooms into the mix. With a slightly more masculine tone yet with all the same bells and whistles. At the back of The House is a brand new terrace complete with an outside grill, look forward to sun-kissed shoulders, rose and the best of British fare in the summer. At the end of 2019 came the further addition and final expansion of No.131 - Kings House, bringing with it 17 further individually designed guestrooms including family suites, equally fun and sophisticated. The epitome of relaxed luxury, each of the 36 bedrooms features sumptuous Egyptian bed linen, beautiful Bramley & Aqua Di Parma products and either roll top baths or walk-in showers.

We ate as a family at The Terrace restaurant, wonderful “apres-ski” setting in the tented terrace. The food was excellent and very good value for money and the service was exceptional.
Despite us making a mistake with our food order the waiter was more than amiable with us and offered an alternative to what we had chosen. It was not the restaurants fault it was ours and they were very good about it.
Our second visit and we will return.

We booked an "outstanding" room and requested a quiet location. Friendly welcome. We were given a large room on the first floor of the adjacent building - the room was spacious and had air conditioning which was much appreciated on a very hot evening. The bathroom was also spacious with a double shower and a separate bath. The room overlooked the road and there is seating for the restaurant outside but we had a reasonably quiet night during a midweek stay. As it started to rain the restaurant was busy and we were worried about social distancing so we had room service. The food was fine although staff did not wear masks or gloves. Breakfast was not included in the rate and was disappointing. There is street parking in front which you pay for or they can give you a voucher for parking in the street at the back of the hotel - either way you will need to carry your bags to the front of the hotel which can be a bit chaotic. The hotel is in an excellent location for the shops and other tourist attractions and we enjoyed visiting Cheltenham. Make sure any £10 eat out promotions are taken off your bill if appropriate.

Upon arrival we were greeted by the front of house hosts who kindly accompanied us to the check in desk, the guy on the reception was very friendly and showed us to our room. We were room Number 9, a cosy attic space with a large claw tub bath and very large bed!! Our room was extremely clean and well stocked with excellent toiletries.

We originally planned to eat elsewhere but after seeing the winter gazebos and the Christmas decor we decided to eat at the hotel. The meal was outstanding - what a great decision.

The next morning, we had the full English breakfast at the hotel which again was superb.

Every member of staff at this hotel is a credit, from the cleaners who cleaned the room, to the chefs who cooked our meals.

Excellent work No.131!

We cannot wait to stay again and would not hesitate to recommend any of our friwnds!

We stayed here for 1 night and were pretty disappointed. What you don't realise from the website is that the hotel itself, reception and restaurant are pretty small but the public bars are massive, so big that they wrap around the whole outside of the hotel building. The expensive gin bars seems to be THE place to be in Cheltenham so it gets very busy and noisyl.
Room was nice but the lack of Covid safety generally in the hotel was worrying. No table service at all in the outside bars, tables were not cleaned or cleared and lots of people passing through. The waiting staff in the restaurant were also not wearing masks or taking many precautions, in fact at breakfast we had to ask for the table to be cleaned! I don't think just putting antibacterial gel around is good enough really. We were also kept awake by the bathroom extractor fan going off and people shouting outside the hotel as they left the public bar.
For the price I would have liked somewhere for residents only that was comfortable for a drink with my family. This place seemed much more like a hotel with rooms attached so not ideal for a family break.

First the good part, we booked an ‘Excellent’ room. Biggest, most comfortable bed ever. Large clean bathroom with fabulous his n’ hers basins and huge bath plus good shower
Needing to remove make-up I asked reception if there weren’t tissues in the room.
It’s not like asking for a basket of kittens, but the rather frosty reception told me it wasn’t their policy to provide such luxuries.
When I queried what I should use instead … loo paper perhaps? She curtly told me to use the bath flannel. Luckily this was overheard by a helpful manager who rectified the situation
On checkout it seems that she had reversed the no-tissue rule. So that’s a plus.
The service in the pretty restaurant is appalling - we watched as continual dishes were taken to wrong tables, customers ignored while staff chatted or disappeared.
We got the wrong food and wrong bill twice, so check those figures and service charge goes on automatically.
We chatted to a regular customer of 2 years who said this was quite usual. Our evening finally rescued by a couple of senior looking waiters.
First time ever that I’ve sent back food untasted.
Rooms are over the busy restaurant and bar, so if you need quiet, do not stay Friday or Saturday when there’s a very late closing time.
A shame as there’s so much potential but let down by staff, many of whom seem quite unbothered by the customers experience

My boyfriend and I stayed at No. 131 for my birthday weekend as a base to explore Cheltenham & the Cotswolds and we had a really lovely stay. We opted for an outstanding room (room 31) which was beautifully decorated, spotless and came with lovely complimentary toiletries. We were a little concerned at first that the room was on the ground floor which meant that our room was level with the road and restaurant (there was a large party dining at the table outside our room when we checked in, so we were a bit concerned about the noise and also privacy, especially given that the bath was right next to the window!) but this turned out not to be an issue during our stay. The breakfast on both days in the restaurant was lovely and we enjoyed the buzzy atmosphere and variety of drinks/cocktails available at the Gin & Juice bar. The only minor fault was that every time we left or returned to our room we had to walk through the restaurant area with people eating which felt a little uncomfortable, especially on the morning we checked out, having to do multiple trips to the car with our bags and trying to squeeze past seated diners at breakfast. Upon checkout we were also presented with an entirely incorrect list of room charges which the receptionist seemed a little unsure what to do about, however we paid what we knew we owed. The service could have been a little better in that respect but on the whole we had a wonderful stay and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.

We booked our overnight stay at No 131 to break our journey back from Cornwall after a relaxing family break.

The chap who checked us in from Brazil was so pleasant & a credit to the hotel.

The room was lovely & well equipped as you would expect from a £213.30 per night hotel on the Mr & Mrs Smith website.

Sadly the service at breakfast next morning was not what you would expect or accept at this level.

Plenty of staff mulling about but how does it take 30 minutes to prepare a bowl of cornflakes from ordering which we had to ask twice for & then another 30 minutes for our hot food to arrive which by the time it arrived our coffee was stone cold.

Ordering a 2nd cup of coffee was another 20 minute wait & also had to be asked for another twice.

The young dark haired lady at check out showed no guest interaction skills or courtesy to ask how our stay was only that you owe us for overnight parking.

This is not acceptable at this level and we would not recommend or use this hotel again, which although good centrally located have a lot to learn about customer care & attention to detail.

The insta-friendly place to be seen in Cheltenham. Avoided on the Saturday evening due to the scary looking queue outside. However returned the following evening when town had seriously calmed down and walked straight in.
This was the positive, we sat down at our very sticky table and waited about 10 minutes to be approached by a young waitress who then wasn’t seen for over 20 minutes. Other very young waitresses just seemed to be wandering around without much serving going on.
Once my drink arrived after being seated over half an hour, it was beautifully presented and my partner received a decent pint of lager.
I wasn’t made aware of the £3.25 service charge at any point until I had card machine pointed at me and noticed the rather high price. After asking for receipt, I was then aware of extra charges.
I’m happy to offer a tip if I’ve received good service but sadly this wasn’t the case.

I surprised my boyfriend for his 30th birthday (the hotel knew this as well) with a nights stay at No 131. I wish I’d booked somewhere else as I regretted it 15 mins after walking into the hotel.

Firstly they take full payment upfront, which for me I found weird, as most hotels I’ve stayed in you pay upon check out (card details provided when booking) so I instantly thought hmm you don’t trust us but shortly realised they likely take full payment so if complaints arise (like ours) they can’t offer a refund of any kind and think tough. Which is exactly what happened and made us feel ridiculous for complaining.

A parking permit is provided by the hotel however we had late check out (1pm) but the permit only covered us until 12 noon - annoying but not the end of the world.

I specifically booked this hotel because of the rooms with the baths in so requested this prior to booking. Once in the room we realised that the TV in our room didn’t work so they moved us to another room as they couldn’t fix it or get another TV (FYI not HD as advertised) however the new room didn’t have a bath. We were so disappointed but the team didn’t seem to care in all honesty. The horrendous weather meant we planned to spend a lot of time in the room which didn’t bother us as we looked forward to the chilled out stay.

The bar and restaurant were both outside, although covered and had heaters, unless you were directly next to a heater you still feel the cold or weather depending where you're sitting. This weekend it just so happened to not stop raining (we really regretted leaving that room with a bath at that point of our stay).

The service in both Gin & Juice and The Lucky Onion was extremely slow, we spent the first 20 mins of breakfast not even seeing a menu. To be honest the only good thing about our stay was that the food tasted great.

So yeah... don’t waste your money.

This is a good hotel that could be excellent. The location couldn’t be bettered, the rooms are really well done, expensive and high quality finish, period plumbing, great shower etc. The room had everything we may have needed. And the staff were polite and seemed hard working. But, we did have to wait 1 1/4 hours to get any breakfast in the rather chilly outdoors restaurant, due to a clash with a wedding party. And although we were staying at the hotel, we had no easy option to visit the bar, there was a constant queue to get in with no advantage offered to those people paying several hundreds of pounds per night. We ended up having a minibar drink in our room, which was not quite the hotel experience we expected. And service at the restaurant was hit-and-miss, problems with tickets, need to remind, chase etc, making the experience nowhere near a 5* experience. So with better management, process and oversight and a couple of changes, it could be truly great. Go on, No 131, you can do it!
