Beautifully warm Cotswold stone on the outside, light and airy inside. The Barrel Store is an environmentally-minded hostel; built to rigorous environmental (Passivhaus) standards, we are an ultra-low energy building. Our 14 rooms are well-appointed with beautiful craft features throughout. From locally-made warm woollen throws to wrap up in, to artisan-made chairs and light shades, this is a hostel which makes the most of its association with New Brewery Arts next door to create a hostel with a real difference. We have a Community Room with self-catering kitchen, communal table and comfy chairs to relax in. You’ll have access to free wi-fi and a selection of games. Although we do not provide catering ourselves, we can provide you with contact details of outsider caterers if required; please ask us. The Barrel Store is brilliantly located, right in the centre of Cirencester. All of the amenities you need and everything you’d expect of an historic market town are right on our doorstep, but quiet and peaceful with no through traffic to disturb you. For visitors wishing to explore this Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty by car, cycle or walking, we are perfectly located. Cirencester is on national cycle network routes and walking trails, and we have we have lockable cycle stores allocated on a first come, first serve basis. If it's an activity holiday you're after, Cotswold Water Park is right around the corner with water skiing, sailing and a beach. Looking for something a bit more leisurely? The Cotswolds has an enormous amount on offer. If you love heritage, there is an abundance of wonderful stately homes, manor houses, churches and museums to visit nearby. Or why not book a craft workshop for you and a few friends at New Brewery Arts and make a weekend of it? Go home with something you’ve made and a new skill.

I booked 2 nights here through the YHA website, and fortunately contacted the Barrel Store about something else, because they told me that the first night wasn’t available- that the YHA should not have been able to book it. So worth double checking directly with the place that you have a room!
On arrival the staff were friendly and the kitchen facilities great. Compared with other YHAs I’ve seen, our bedroom was very functional- Lino floor, no pictures on the walls, we didn’t want to spend much time in there. But the place was cheerful enough, and really close to the centre of Cirencester. I would probably stay again.

Two of us stayed for one night on a short cycling tour of the Cotswold area and it was perfect for our needs. Very helpful and friendly staff at the check-in. We had room 7 which was warm, clean and comfortable with towels provided. The room is basic, as you might expect for a YHA, with a double bed + single bunk above but with the bonus of an ensuite shower/WC. We made use of the very well equipped, clean and modern ground floor kitchen to prepare our dinner and breakfast. With the central location we were able to easily walk to the nearby Waitrose supermarket for our shopping and later in the evening around the town for a drink in the Crown Inn. We were able to store our bicycles in the special outside lock-up cycle stores, although were a bit surprised to learn there was an additional £5 cost for each of these as this wasn't mentioned on the YHA website when we booked, but worth paying for peace of mind. Overall an enjoyable stay and would recommend to any cyclist looking for an overnight in Cirencester, just make sure you pre-book your cycle storage.

My family and I (husband and 4 children) stayed here for 3 nights last week and what a fantastic place it is! Very family friendly, very clean and really helpful, welcoming staff and the bonus was we felt very comfortable and safe there due to the security measures in place.
Its right in the middle of Cirencester, with the Church, Abbey Park, Cirencester Park, Lido all within about 10 minutes walking distance so the location is ideal!
Being August it was very warm in the rooms but they were happy to provide fans, which was great!
Just a quick tip, when you get to Cirencester
don't put the postcode into the Sat Nav, type in Tesco's or Brewery carpark, once you enter the carpark Tesco is on the left handside and the Barrel Store is located just beyond the top right corner of carpark about 100 yards up from Subway... sounds complicated but it's really not, once you're in the carpark it's really easy to find!
I can't recommend this place enough!!

I was originally given the wrong key at check in. Luckily I checked the room before leaving as check in as at set times only. Had I not checked I'd have had to have a bunk bed room with no shower. Set up was nice upon walking into the foyer, kitchen facilities on the left and reception straight ahead. Door was locked upon entering so needed to be let in which I found a little odd.

Room was VERY small. Sockets couldn't be accessed without moving the bed and once moved door to shower couldn't be opened properly. No opening windows in the room so used the fan which was really loud and with the rooms being so close together I turned it off. Shower was good but very slow draining and toilet was against the sink unit so need to be used sideways!

I believe that this concept could work but I was disappointed that the cost was as high as it was. A Travelodge less than 10 minutes away which my family stayed in was roughly the same price and was at least double the size and much more comfortable.

Hi, Thanks for leaving such a clear review. Sorry to hear you were disappointed with your stay with us. We have plans to change the bed layout to make rooms more spacious and accessible and feedback like yours has helped us understand what we need to do. Our front door is accessible to all guests who have checked in, but as a security measure we make sure we let people in rather than leaving it open. Thanks again for giving us honest feedback - we do listen and work to improve.

Unfortunately our visit wasn't the best, booked a family ensure room for one night. We had two very young children and problems with the window not opening.
Room was 25 degrees and the fan in room was not appropriate with small children.
The receptionist did give the option of splitting our party up with a twin room, which we accepted as it was too hot for my two year old.

Not accepted, we paid £70, and feel the rooms need to be inspected prior to booking in and ensuring they have the basic health and safety checks

I recently booked a twin room which clearly stated that I had access to a private bathroom. However, on arrival the first thing I was asked was “shared bathroom, yeah?” To which I replied “that’s not what I booked, no”. Apparently none of the twin rooms have this facility. There was also no fan in my room in the 25+ degree heat which it also said it had. Moreover, there was no access to hand soap/sanitiser in the shared bathroom that I HAD to use so I could not even wash my hands. During a global pandemic this is just not acceptable.
Two stars only because of the cheap price at short notice. But give people what you advertise. I’ve attached a pic of the facilities my room apparently had ‘access’ to on booking, which was not the case.

This is one of the nicest hostels I have stayed in, right in the centre of Cirencester with easy access to the Cotswolds. The hostel was exceptionally clean, the kitchen well-stocked and Tesco is just next door. The gentleman on reception was very helpful and the overall experience very pleasant.

There are however some things to be aware of. As other people have mentioned the room was incredibly hot and the window only opened about 1cm. There are only 3 comfy chairs in the kitchen so lounging was not an option and there was only a tiny desk flap which would not stay up and a stool in the room so using a laptop was difficult too.

Comfortable overnight stay. I was booked into a room where the window did not open but when I asked for a room where ventilation was possible this was immediately done without any fuss. Bedroom was very clean. KItchen very well equipped to self cater but not so clean, but that is the fault of the other guests not the yha. Parking was a bit tricky. If you arrive after 3pm it's free but you must pay after 8am. I put money in the machine but did not get a ticket or a refund.

Very well placed in the centre of Cirencester, new hostel so quite well appointed - they even provide towels which is very convenient. The self catering kitchen has good facilities but is quite small. Realistically only one or two people can cook at the same time. However, there are tons of places to eat within spitting distance of the hostel. The dining/ lounge area is a good size and nicely laid out. If you are staying on Friday or Saturday night in the summer and need to keep the window open at night it can get a bit noisy with the local pubs and clubs kicking out til the early hours of the morning.

Nicely appointed, room was very small for family of 4 but hey not to much of a problem. The kitchen had been left in a mess by other residents which was a shame. Some signage in the kitchen encouraging residents to clean up after themselves and dry and put away all used items may help. There is fridge and not a freezer so bare this in mind if you are hoping to refreeze your freezer packs. All in all this is a great hostel in a fabulous location. Highly recommend.

We stayed as a family of 4, with our 2 teenagers. It was our first Hostel and we really enjoyed it . We had 2 bunk beds in our room , which was not huge but very clean . The place was quiet and we used the kitchen area for hot drinks . Parking was easy and the Barrelstore well located to walk into town . We would stay again, hope this helps
