Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.

Detailed Reviews
We stayed 2 nights over the bank holiday weekend, we booked in advance and I was a little surprised that I paid the price that was quoted with 20% vat when the vat is now 5%, so the hotel get the 15% bonus not the customer. Bit cheeky!
All staff were wearing masks and there were sanitiser points scattered around.
The room was big and clean. Nice big bed and newly fitted bathroom. Tea and coffee, free wi-fi and large tv.
The breakfast was very good with the option of full english, veggie breakfast, scrambled egg and salmon or bacon or sausage sandwich. There was also juices, pastries and cereals all with table service.
There is a nice big garden and car park. you can walk in to Cirencester which is about 25 minutes away to centre.
All the staff were pleasant and we were happy we chose the Stratton for our break.

Stayed here for a two n ight break Sat/ Sun over Valentines weekend.
The stay was booked through Secret Escapes at £138 for the two nights including B&B.
Initially once booked I wasnt expecting much as I felt some of the website photos werent anything special and our stay was allocated to a "comfort room".
Given we had got the weekend at a good rate I thought we would be placed in a poor room but how suprised we were.
The place is lovely, the photos don all do it justice, really nice welcoming staff, (Selina the receptionist polite, friendly, helpful in providing a map of cirencester and a great recommendation as to where to eat if nit using the hotel - thai Emerald in Cirencsester centre - one of a local Cotswold chain of four, good value, lovely food.
Our room was spacious, modern, clean and only a short walk from reception.
Breakfast was a mixture of buffet and waitress hot food service, couldnt fault it, warm, good quality and plentifull and served looking out onto the lovelly private walled gardens frequented by pheasants on the lawn.
This hotel was so much better value than the one we ad stayed in the night before paying £109 for the one nights B&B in a poorer quality 3 star hotel.
This hotel is only 1 mile out of Cirencester to drive or can be walked via a shorter route, well placed and I would definately stay here again, if you are choosing give this place a visit, it is worth it!

A lot to digest? Read an AI-generated summary of recent traveller reviews.
We arrived at Stratton house not knowing what to expect. A 3 star hotel, but a package bought for the “splendid rooms”, the best available with breakfast and 3 course meal included for both nights.
What followed was incredible value for money. A small and quaint hotel, we felt right at home from the get go.
The room was incredibly spacious with a super king bed, lots of drawer and wardrobe space and an en-suite with a roll top bath big enough for two and a walk in shower.
Tea coffee and biscuits were replenished daily, as was the sparkling water beside the bed.
The food was pleasantly surprising and although the dining area was completely empty which gave it a lack of atmosphere, we thoroughly enjoyed each course. A well put together, varied menu and we tried something different both nights, enjoying it all.
We had a view out onto the lovely garden and watched the birds eat over breakfast, a mixture of buffet and continental, again all well cooked and plentiful.
Also well situated to the nearby towns and villages.
Would definitely stay again, my only slight complaint would be the beds and pillows, perhaps a little too hard and uncomfortable for our liking, however in the grand scheme of things this was not a major issue when taking into account the above.
Thanks for the stay Stratton house!

And thank you for choosing to come and stay with us. Both myself and the team are over the moon we achieved a five star service in a 3 star hotel. This wonderful old manor House is a great setting for a few days relaxation or as a base to visit the picturesque area.
We chose a Superior Double room overlooking the garden. Though the COVID-19 rules mean that the rooms are stripped of their‘pretty’ bits making the room look a little stark, the space and overall decoration still gave an air of elegance. In addition to the huge bed there was a good sized coffee table with two comfy chairs. There were four double mains sockets around the room, the two by the bed had a built in USB socket.
The wardrobe has a fan heater for cold days and an ordinary fan for those occasional very hot nights.
The bathroom was enormous, it is fitted out with a delightful roll top bath with its own shower for your hair. There is also a large walk in shower cubical with both rainforest overhead shower and hand held shower.
Breakfast was served in a room overlooking the garden, a lovely way to start a day.
There is a decent sized bar with the usual selection of drinks available.
There is also a very comfortable separate lounge.
The staff were all extremely friendly doing their very best to cope with the, seemingly ever changing, government rules on Covid.
In particular I am grateful to Lizzy for her insight into tonic water 🍸 and gin (I will never be to old to learn new things)

We stayed three nights on a Groupon deal. There is plenty of parking space and we received a good welcome. There are plenty of sanitiser points and staff were wearing their masks. The room was really HOT so had to leave a window open. The bed was the most uncomfortable I have experienced for ages. There was, however an ample wardrobe to hang clothes, nice bathroom and lots of hot water to wallow in. We didn't stay for dinner but the breakfasts were adequate, even if the waitress got the order wrong two mornings out of three. The garden view from the restaurant is relaxing and the staff helpful. I would definitely stay again but mattress vetting a must.

Booked at this hotel as an end of staycation treat at a cost of £180 plus an extra £20 for the dog. The outside of the hotel, the reception and the bar looked lovely. However once out of the reception area the carpet was thread bare, the paintwork is chipped and when we got to our room we were disgusted at the quality of the room for the price they were charging! The furniture was dated and chipped, the carpet was thread bare and the room was definitely not as advertised on the pictures! Also the volume of noise from people talking below was unacceptable. When we checked in we were told that breakfast was by allocated time and the times available where extremely limited and the latest being 8.15am, however when my husband when to to reception to complain about the quality of room for the price being charged, other people checking in after us were being offered later breakfast times. The receptionist appeared to be new and out of her depth, at no point did any management come out to discuss the complaint. The receptionist didn’t know what to do so we asked for a refund and fortunately managed to find somewhere else to stay for half the price & a much better quality room. A very disappointing and stressful end to our holiday.

We stayed in Room 11 which is a feature room.
Positives:
Friendly helpful staff.
Quiet location with lovely garden and outside seating area. Looks like an outside Bar may be available in the summer?
Lounge area downstairs is a very pleasant room to read, watch the garden or socialise.
Room 12 is a spacious room with small hallway between main door, bathroom and bedroom.
Looks over garden at rear so no road noise although good weather may bring noise from outside seating areas.
Has 2 very comfy reading chairs overlooking the garden.
Very comfy bed and quality cotton bedding.
Variety of choice at breakfast.
Choice of menu from restaurant and bar menu at lunch and dinner. Recommend the burger but request blue cheese.
Bathroom and toilet on 2 levels
Negatives:
Stain/burn on carpet in hallway
Hallway window doesn’t have an attractive view but a curtain and shutters are provided which works well
Cleanliness of room and bathroom was not the best . There were flecks of white on the bathroom floor which on further investigation seemed to be paint from a recent refresh of the walls. Cobwebs and dust on walls in bathroom and thick dust on top edge of tiles in toilet area
Compulsory Fire exit signage isn’t attractive.
We didn’t try the Spa due to the additional fee so cannot comment on this.
Improvements:
Add a hanging rail on the wall by shower.
Have a soft close toilet seat.
Have a larger bath mat as water sprays from shower area.
Have solid coasters in the room rather than paper ones.
Have hot chocolate in room or available at breakfast.
Add to the choice of milk at breakfast ; oat, coconut, almond.
Option to cut your own bread at breakfast.
Have meats and cheeses available at breakfast.
Linen napkins at breakfast would be nicer than paper ones.
Change menu in bar/lounge printed on cream paper and in a folder rather than plastic bi fold menu.
Guest information folder in room needs updating and placed in a smarter folder.

The hotel is in an easy short walk into the centre of Cirencester you can walk the scenic route down the road next to the hotel. Room was clean enough from what I could see, being an old building it was very dark even with all the lights on. The Bathroom was the only place with good lighting, as we were facing the car park we had to keep the blind closed for privacy.
The shower in the bathtub had great pressure, the shower itself was very weak. The hotel are nice enough to email about the fact that there will be stairs up to the rooms and if it would be an issue but the cramped stairs up to room 6a and 6b were very difficult to navigate as they were narrow and the steps were wonky as it's an old building. At the top there was a heavy fire door which you then needed to unlock before getting to the room.
Floors were also very unlevel in the room, a cute quirk but made it difficult for items to stay on the table without sliding off.
It seems it was wedding season but thankfully we didn't hear anything. The room we were in had no full length mirror which would of been handy when getting ready along with better lighting.
Staff were friendly during breakfasts and the hot breakfast was very good but the continental could of done with a better selection. Filtered coffee was not the best. Great views into the garden from the restaurant.
Dinner was good we recommend the ray wing very tasty and a decent portion. My husband had the corn chicken which was a tiny portion so had to order additional chips after. A lot of staff standing around talking loudly even with a busy restaurant.
We planned on booking an afternoon tea during our 5 night stay but was unable to book a spot. But this looked good in other reviews.
There have been previous reviews about rude staff but we did not experience this. Reception was nice and pleasant.

First impressions of this hotel were very good. Very smart looking hotel with a beautiful garden.
We were given a warm greeting at reception and a complimentary room upgrade as being January the hotel was fairly quiet. The room was spacious and very tastefully decorated , we understand the whole hotel has recently been refurbished. The room had a lovely view over the large hotel garden. We had a very comfy king size bed, dressing table and ample wardrobe space. En suite was very smart with both a walk in shower and a bath ... again all recently refurbished and spacious.
The staff in this hotel are not only very cheerful but also go the extra mile to ensure you enjoy your stay.
We had a delicious evening meal at the hotel and service was excellent.
Next morning we had a full English cooked breakfast again delicious and cooked to order and brought to your table.Good menu choice.Selection of cereals , yoghurt, fruit juice etc . to help yourself to. The lady waitress was so helpful .. she even cooked our toast for us despite the fact that a toaster was provided for guests to use she offered to make it for us!
The hotel is so well placed for visiting Cirencester we chose to walk there from the hotel and it took 20 minutes with beautiful countryside views.
In the car it dosent take long to go to Bourton on the Water .. The Slaughters, Burford etc.
We really loved our stay at The Stratton House Hotel and will definately be going back.

Wendy, what lovely words. Thank you so much for your great review. The team work really hard to ensure the guest expectations are not only met but exceeded and it’s wonderful to read their efforts paid off (even down to going out of their way to make your toast themselves). I love hearing about these little nuggets as the team have the autonomy to make our guests stay super special including complimentary upgrades when availability allows. The rooms in the main house are stunning and are very popular with returning guests as you can imagine. It certainly sounds like you had a wonderful stay and the walk into Cirencester is definitely worth it. I do hope you managed to sign up to our Friends of Stratton House on our website so you will receive exclusive offers. Thanks once again for your lovely review and myself and the team look forward to welcoming you back again soon. Best wishes Amanda Wallis General Manager

Hi jg58
I was only a guest at this hotel so do not know the answer I am sorry to say.
The room we stayed in was really large and could easily accommodate another twin bed so it is likely they could fulfil your needs.
Yes we can accommodate dogs in some dog friendly rooms. There is a dog charge of £20 per dog per night.
Many thanks
Hi there
Breakfast is served 8-10am Saturday & Sunday and 7-9:30am Monday to Friday.
Hi, sorry no we don’t offer robes and slippers in the deluxe rooms. These rooms do have roll top baths and stand alone monsoon showers, toiletries & mineral water.
They are lovely rooms!
