#4 of 13 B&Bs / Inns in Painswick
The Falcon Inn sits opposite a quintessential English village church with its famous 99 clipped yew trees sitting in its grounds. The Falcon was first opened as a coaching inn in the 16th century and carries out the aims of the coaching inn to this day, the transport to it is just a little bit different. Great food, service and hospitality are provided at value for money prices. Painswick is not to be missed and the Falcon is the place to stay.

We came across The Falcon Inn last night as we we were staying nearby. They have got everything Covid safe. Staff wearing masks and track and trace. We ordered two burgers, they came quickly. I think they were the best burgers I had ever had. Fantastic food and lovely service. Thanks you for a lovely dinner and fitting us in!! Will definitely remember this place if we ever come down here again.

Having sat down at around 7.45pm for an evening meal, we were still waiting for our main course at 8.45 having decided not to have a starter. We noticed another couple sat down behind us 20mins after we sat down being serviced their meal before us! Having asked why this was we were told their meal was easier to prepare!! Not a good enough reason in my opinion, nevertheless we were served shortly afterwards. I had a sirloin steak with peppercorn sauce, whilst my partner ordered the burger which was very nice. My steak on the other hand was without doubt the most tasteless piece of meat I have ever tasted and the peppercorn sauce was more of a coloured water with peppercorns thrown in. Having brought the lack of substance of the sauce to the waitress attention this was changed however by this time the lack of any flavour in the steak had soured my evening, and no amount of flavour from a thickened sauce could rescue the situation. Having complained about the lack of taste in the steak to the waitress, she made a £2 adjustment to the bill for which I found truly insulting, given that I had left 2/3 of it on the plate. I asked to see the Manager and after a while he turned up at the table and effectively could not understand why I felt bitter about the whole experience! He’d not received any other complaints that evening and said he’d had a successful evening, his views of the peppercorn sauce was “that’s how people liked it”, not for me, a brown watery liquid with peppercorns thrown in! After discussing with him my discontent with the evening he did adjust the bill a little more (£4.65)..........enough said customer satisfaction clearly not a priority in this establishment. This complaint was not about having the bill reduced it was more about the fact that my custom and enjoyable experience was of no concern to them.

Homely and comfortable... very dog friendly with sumptuous bed and bedding. Stunning little town with lovely walks from the doorstep. Bar meals good if a little expensive. Amazing breakfast. Very welcoming staff.

Stayed for two nights - and had a thoroughly very pleasant and enjoyable stay. We had breakfast , lunch and evening dinner at the Hotel - really varied menu , wine list and selection of wines / gins. The meals were brilliant - very well prepared and presented. Great atmosphere , ambience in bar , beer garden and restaurant. The owners and staff were exceptionally friendly , helpful and professional - we felt totally safe (covid wise precautions etc) , welcomed and certainly well looked after. Took our dog - who was more than welcomed by the hotel staff - in fact numerous residents / guests had dogs. Lovely location in a very beautiful village with many local walks to discover and appreciate the breath-taking scenery. Thank you for making our stay so pleasant , enjoyable , relaxing and memorable. We will definitely be back. Steve and Jenny (Thorne)

Stayed at the Falcon for a weekend away and was really impressed with very aspect of our stay, great customer service, a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Everything had been put in place to ensure we had an enjoyable time whilst keeping us safe with sanitising stations and social distancing measures. Superb food at breakfast, lunch and dinner. The bedroom and facilities were all great and from the moment we arrived until the time came to leave all the staff were all helpful, friendly and made the weekend very memorable. The Falcon is certainly worth a visit.
